Perkins vs Bynum Matchup

Post#1 » by phoolishly_insane » Tue Feb 3, 2009 12:38 am

Who plays better against each other?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm having an argument that whenever they play against each other, he thinks that Bynum is hands down a better player than Perkins. I said, he's right but when they play against each other, Bynum can't get past Perkins because of his defense.

He disagrees.

I showed him the stats when they played last 3 games from last season's to this season:

Bynum: 7pts, 6rebs, 1.3blks

Perkins: 12pts, 7.6rebs, 1.3 blks

If Bynum is better, then why isn't he averaging more points and rebounds against the underachiever Perkins? It's because of Perkin's defense, right?

I'm not saying that Perkins is better than Bynum because he's not. It's just that Perkins knows how to defend Bynum, am I right?

Discuss.

Perk matches up well with big/strong "classic" type centers, which describes Bynum fairly well. Maybe he has some trouble with super tall (7'2" +) or superathletic guys, but in a slugfest with a standard archetype big guy he plays well.

somehow,8-12 weeks is what is forecast for the MCL tear....that's a REAL quick recovery time, I can't imagine him coming back this year, anyone have any other thoughts on the matter?
I hope we somehow avoid the injury bug....we're nowhere near as deep as a lot of playoff teams.

MCL's heal fairly quick. And he won't be out for 3 months like Bruno suggested. The time table you guys are reading in the media was put out by the Lakers not the doctor who read the MRI.

Numbers don't always tell the story. If you went by the last 3 match ups that means you went by this seasons 1st match up & the 2 from last year. Let's start with last year. Bynum hadn't quite hit his stride yet in either match up & quite honestly Perkins looked like a man against a boy. This year he hadn't quite regained his form he found right B4 he was injured.

Not making any excuses but I was really pumped to see what he was going to do against you guys now that he had hit his stride. We will have to wait until June to find out. I don't want to take anything away from Perkins, he's an excellent defender but when Drew has it going he's a hard pill to swallow

So why do the Lakers think they can beat the Celtics just because they have Bynum?

Didn't Perk get hurt in the game they won on Christmas?

^Yes Perk did get hurt then...

I usually don't place as much importance on these "head to head" stat matchups between players...as long as the TEAM wins, I don't care...

They believe they can beat Boston, its not because Bynum is better than Perkins but more so that there is an interior presence to alter shot. You guys abused Lakers in the Finals, there have no shot blocker w/o Bynum. If Lakers have Bynum this time, it will be a very interesting serious indeed. But, you have to get passed Lebron to face the Lakers.
