I Hope Ainge Was Taking Notes

Post#1 » by return2glory » Fri Feb 6, 2009 10:26 am

I hope Ainge was taking notes during the game. The reason we lost wasn't beacuse of the refs. The main reason is that outside of KG, we don't have a guy over 6'9 that can score on a regular basis. BBD has been playing well of late, but he was 1-8 shooting tonight. Perkins has become a stiff on the offensive end again over the last 6 weeks. 4 points in 35 minutes isn't going to cut it. This team misses P.J. Brown and his shooting.

Ainge needs to add a big man who can score over the next 2 weeks or else we will be watching a Lakers vs. Cavs Finals. Man, Joe Smith would have looked good for us tonight. I'm not worried right now. I will be worried if we can't get a decent big by the deadline though. I can't knock Danny Ainge, he brought us a championship.

Relax guys. The sky is not falling down.
Ít´s crystal clear that this is a three team race: Fakers, Cavs and Celts.
Just picture Kobe, Gasol or LeBron getting injured.
Celts have three top guns while Cavs and Fakers heavily rely on one player.
Besides that, of course it would be great to add Joe Smith. This guy would fit like a glove.
I agree we need a PJ Brown clone.

No offense to PJ but he as a stiff also. But PJ and Posey gave Doc a lot more match up options than he has right now we are just short, too many guys who can't play against key matchups. Last night the fouls just added up. Maybe Scal gives you enough mins to get by, but damn I hate counting on that.

Joe Smith would be great against the Lakers and probably the Magic, not sure how much he helps against the Cavs, but post defense is less of an issue against them. Hopefully that one comes through. But he doesn't give us any help defending on the perimeter and either does Marbury.

Do you think Ainge doesn't know this?

He has been searching all year for a big man just like alot of other teams. The problem he has is the Celtics have nothing available to trade that other teams might want to acquire. Teams are not beating down the door asking for Scalabrine, Pruitt, TA, Powe, Big Baby & POB. Look around the league at what might be available and you will see there isn't much unless you can somehow put together salaries of $5-8 million.

Losing out on McDyess, Mourning & PJ Brown really hurt the Celtics. Ainge is trying but he isn't going to get Joe Smith just by asking nicely.

By the way, it's good to see know one on the Celtics board is overreacting about a 1pt loss in overtime. You'd think the Celtics just turned into the Memphis Griz.

Remember what Ainge said last summeer. "Everyone wants to be a Celtic". I don't think I can forgive him for signing scrubs and letting Posey go. The 18th looks far away.

I trust Ainge and I know he will do something that will improve this team going into the playoffs & finals.

I'm sure Ainge knows the situation, we're not the same team last year(no Posey, PJ) while LA has revenge on their minds from last Finals embarassment.

Odom is half the player KG is and is trying to get in his head the play where they got into it Odom was clearly throwing elbow into KG's chest and KG came back at him and got whistled for the foul. Where was the whistle for Odom's actions?

Yet we had are chances to win the game with KG watching from the bench.

Really? You have the Cavs game from last year. Game 7. Watch the 4th quarter of that game and see how PJ saved our asses.

it's not like we're having a bad year but given the opportunity to beat the best teams ( Lakers and Cavs) we've come up short. Sure we beat the Cavs at home to start the season and we beat Orlando on the road but we really haven't had the big win this year. The Lakers are this year who we were last year. they're the team stopping other teams winning streaks and they're the ones going undefeated on a road trip. against the best competition we're less than a 500 team and there's a good reason for that: top to bottom the lakers and cavs have more talent than we do. I love our guys so don't get me wrong but talent is talent and we don't have the same level of talent that other teams do. The course for this season was set in the offseason when Danny didn't improve the team and in fact allowed the team to get worse. Now he has to pull a rabbit out of the hat and there aren't any rabbits to be found

I agree with this.

R2g, the only issue I have is that you only seem to start these threads the day after a loss. It gets kind of old that we can predict when it's coming.

You don't think Ainge was all over McDyess a few months ago? I guarantee he was.

PJ Brown avg 2.9 ppg and 2 reb over a 26 game post season. I watched him in game 7 against CLE and it was awesome. I also watched him struggle to convert from about 11 inches from the rim. He was a great player and he had a great game 7 but the rest of the post season looked old and frail.

That said at least he was tall and that apparently is still an issue for this ball club.

People are overreacting. KG's not 100% and he's not going to foul out like this in a playoff game. They need another long range shooters, as they really miss Posey. I'd like see Tim Thomas, who would spread the floor for Pierce. Teams can clog up the middle with Perk, Rondo and Baby in the game.

Tim Thomas would be nice. Scalabrine could have helped as well.

I'm just trying to come up with ways of how this team can improve. Overall, I'm very happy with this team. How can anyone not be? We won a title for the first time in 22 years. This year we are 41-10, third because record in the league. It's a great time to be a Celtic fan. I already got my tickets to see us play against the Clippers in L.A. on 2/25.

+1

PJ Brown had a nice 4th Q of Game 7 against CLE. terrific, it was great to see him step up big during a crucial time. unfortunately, the rest of his time here, he was pretty pathetic. what are the odds that he will come up with another 20 footer to win (or seal) a game? at this point, less than Big Baby, which is pretty sad.

Not saying we don't need height, but PJ wasn't and isn't the answer. Baby had a bad game last night but let's not forget he's been great recently. Now we want to throw him under a bus? Please. He is better than PJ at this point. He had a bad game but we didn't lose this game because we didn't have PJ Brown.

Are you serious dudes????
PJ Brown was one of the main reasons we have the 17th. His Finals were plain brilliant. And anyone who does not realize this fact simply does not know what this game is all about.
Period.

We needed Brown last year for defense. Perk was playing pretty short minutes, often due to fouls.

We just have to wait. Unless someone makes a too good to be true offer, Danny is going to have to wait to see what moves a lot of other teams make. We still are probably the prime destination for a big who gets cut. The top teams are us the lakers and cavs. The Caves have a lot of guys at the 4-5 already. I think we edge out the lakers because a potential signing sees the void left by Brown, and sees a shot to beat out Perk for minutes, and possible starting status and/or end of game status.
