Rasho Nesterovic and Joe Smith are both expirings that could be had,

but the Celtics could simply wait until summer to get either one as a free agent,

or simply offer the full MLE to Rasheed Wallace this summer.

The only reason that I can see the Celtics not making a deal for Joe Smith or Nesterovic
(Larry might donate him, since he's expiring)
is if the Celtics think that they can get Rasheed Wallace
with a full MLE multi-year offer this summer.

The real loss would this year,
when either 7 foot Nesterovic or 6' 9.5" Joe Smith would be a
significant upgrade to Glen Davis.

Look at is this way. If you were a GM of another team who exactly would appeal to you on the celtics bench?

The only hope the celtics have is that Joe smith and Marbury are bought out and want to play here; in my mind that has no chance of happening.

People on here are just way to convinced that Ainge can magically make a trade or sign someone that will fix the many problems this team has.

I just know we need to get rid of useless ballast. Trade POB, Giddens, even Pruitt if he doesn`t play, if possible..and sign some VETERAN players who can actually help this team now!

Sign Bonzi Wells, sign Robert Horry, I would much rather see experienced players on our bench than you guys who can`t help us for a few years...we are not a rebuilding team, we are trying to win now...

Joe Biscuit, trading for Rasho would be a 4 for 1,
with only 1 player going back to Indiana,
and the other 3 players going to teams with trade exceptions for picks.

Now, if somehow Marbury magically gets bought out in time to get waived,
clear waivers, and sign with the Celtics by the trade deadline,
the Celtics could trade for Rasho Nesterovic by:

1. sending Brian Scalabrine to Indiana (Indiana saves $2.6 million in salary this year,
covering most of Scal's $3.4 million salary next year)

2. Trading Glen Davis to Dallas for $250k, rerouted to Indiana

3. Trading Tony Allen to OKC for Spurs 2009 First Round Pick,
which is sent to Indiana

4. Trading Gabe Pruitt to anywhere for a 2nd Round Pick,
which Celtics keep.

Summary:

Celts get Marbury, Nesterovic and 2nd Round Pick
Celtics give up Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Pruitt and Davis

Indiana gets Scalabrine, San Antonio's 2009 First Round Pick, $250k cash
Indiana gives up expiring Rasho Nesterovic to Boston

OKC gets Tony Allen
OKC sends San Antonio's 2009 First Round Pick to Indiana

Dallas gets Glen Davis
Dallas sends $250k cash to Indiana

Someone gets Gabe Pruitt
Someone sends Celtics 2nd Round Pick

I think that Danny is waiting to see if the Marbury buyout/clearing waivers
comes before the trade deadline.

What I think is likely to happen is the Celts don't make any trades
except to clear a roster spot or 2,

then wait for buyouts on Steph Marbury (means sign him around first week of March)
and a big like Nesterovic or Joe Smith,
if they would be willing to sign with the Celtics,
which would be driven by the Celtics willingness to indicate
re-signing them this summer with the MLE or a good part thereof.

Giving up Tony and Davis is costly for Nesterovic,
since he will be a free agent this summer.

Joe Smith will be cheaper,
but if the Celts were going to make a trade,
they would have made it already.

That's why I think they will just wait for buyouts,
and maybe ship out someone like Pruitt or Giddens for a pick,
although a bench shooter would be more helpful than a pick,
since other than Eddie House,
there's not one guy you would trust to take a shot on the bench
(well, Sam Cassell, but he's using a walker/cane/wheel chair now, isn't he?).

What about re-signing the retired PJ Brown and include him in a trade--like the Keith Van Horn deal last year?...PJ could stay retired and get a lot of dough---it would make salaries match in a Joe Smith deal....Danny has GOT to be creative right now.

The Suns are blowing it up and want young players and draft picks.

Giddens, Pruitt & 2nd round pick (09) for Grant Hill

Shouldn't be the only trade but it's a start.

No, we are basically done. There are too many angry GMs. Ainge could have taken advantage of free agency while he was at it but I guess he didn't.

Since PJ was only paid the minimum, we couldn`t sign him for more...

Would absolutely love this deal! I doubt it is enough but if we throw in some cash, PHO owner would maybe do this. We know how cheap he is...

* Before The Dealine End Best Idea So Far If Houston Rockets Are Interest On The Deal..

Boston Celtics Send

PF- Brain Sclabrine
SG- Tony Allen
SG- J.R. Gidden Or Patrick O'Bryant
& Cash ( 2.7 Million )

Get In Return From The Houston Rockets

Ron Artest

Reason For This Deal Is Getting A Star Player That Could Play Defence On Kobe Bryant And Etc..In The Playoff Give Ray Allen & Paul Pierce Think About Offence Only & Will Also Give Free Spot To Sign Any Available Player That Will Help The Team..

* Send J.R Gidden Back The D-League w/ Bill Walker & Gabe Pruitt For More Space & Keep Them Around For Future Player

* Sign Stephon Marbury After Himself & The New York Knicks Agree For A Buyout..And Put Stephon Marbury On Six Man

* Sign Joe Smith After The Buyout..Be A Great Fit In The 2 Team

So After That We Do Have A Great Team w/ Player With Talent, Scoring, Defence And Etc..But There Still More To Come..

This Is The Line Up After The Sign & Trade

PG- Rajon/Marbury/Cassell
SG- Ray/House/Joe
SF- Paul/
PF- Garnett/David/Powe
C- Perkin/

* Still Need More Player In Center Area & Good Power Forward Player So We Have To Go After In The Retire & Free Agency Area

Free Agency

Bonzi Well - SF *
Robert Horry - PF *
Antonie Walker - PF ( Maybe Sign ) Because He Doesnt Like Goin Up & Down. * Over Weight * In My Notes
Retire Player

Chris Webber - SF/PF
Reggie Miller - SG/SF
P.J. Brown - PF/C
Alonzo Mouning - PF/C

* The Ones With The Star Are More Chance To Come In The Team With A Good Contact Deal For Both Party

* The Retire Player Are So Hard To Get Back In The NBA Style But There Alway One Day They Want To Come Back And This Is The Best Chances To Get A Ring And End Up In A Good Year After The Season Is Over Right..

So After All Those Ideas Hopefully This Will Be The Lineup For The Boston Celtics This Year

PG- Rajon/Marbury/Cassell
SG- Ray/House/Joe
SF- Paul/Bonzi/Reggie
PF- Garnett/David/ Horry Or Webber Or Both
C- Perkin/Powe/ P.J Or Mouning Or Or Both

And We Get Both Trade Powe And David For Draft Picks For This Year Or Next Year Or Etc Future Pick

We have no tradeable assets, guys.

To me, the best player we can get is PJ Brown. If he's really retired, the next best player we can get is Antoine Walker, who would give us a better alternative to Scal and also provide us with a legitimate small ball lineup.

TAllen is a decent trade chip with only one year left in his contract so to get anything in return we have to take back a player with a longer deal, not too long though.

Salmons or Stevenson are both players I would love to replace TAllen with and they only have 2yrs left on their deals.

20.9 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.0 apg in 37.0 minutes

Chicago gets its man Stoudemire for Gooden and Noah, which I think is a fair trade.

Phoenix gets hosed talent-wise, but if they really do decide to trim salary, this achieves just that while also letting them take a look at Baby, Allen and Pruitt.

Celtics give up two rotation guys (Allen and Baby) for a smarter, more experienced player in Hill and an energy big (and "pest) in Noah, which they sorely need.

C's new rotation:

Perkins/Noah
Garnett/Powe
Pierce/Scalabrine
Allen/Hill
Rondo/House

That's what it would take, something like that. Danny getting involved in a trade as a third wheel, to make it work.

I think it is likely that Joe Smith gets bought out after the trade deadline, and he could certainly help.

There are trade options out there but what to look for is guys with 2 or more years left on their deal, that is how you can get something for almost nothing.

On that list is Shane Battier, Jeff Foster, Reggie Evans, Nick Collison, Joe Pryzbilla, Leandro Barbosa, Darius Songalia, DeShawn Stevenson.

There are other guys who I just don't see as a fit for different reasons.

The other option are guys who are in the final year of their deal, aren't really S&T targets, and teams may take on extra salary to get some value out of an asset, putting a value on these types of guys is difficult.

LMAO holy crap, you're like the Anti-Ainge! phew, thankfully you're not our GM.

actually we have a lot of tradeable assets. powe, TA, and pruitt are no worse than Gomes, Telfair, and West. what we don't have is large expiring contracts; we used them up to get Ray and KG. or high draft picks.

Sure, you CAN trade anything, but I'm not talking about lateral moves, which is about all our 'tradeable' assets are going to get us. Why exchange one limited player for another team's limited player, when the new limited player is going to have to get acquainted with our offensive and defensive sets in the next two months AND overachieve to make the deal worthwhile? I'd rather roll with what we have right now, hope to improve from within (or start playing Pruitt again) and add a veteran off the waiver wire. Antoine could be a good fit, if there's no one else out there, like a PJ, or Marbury (not going to happen, IMO), or Joe Smith or whomever. He's better than Scal and lo and behold Scal has become an important piece of the puzzle. If anything, he's another last resort big off the bench...

At a certain point, Antoine becomes a viable option again, regardless of your opinion of him. What I'm saying is, we're about 2 weeks away from that possibly happening...

Little JO3- Id like to see that trade but with subbing shane battier in for artest, artest has repeatedly made it clear that he does not like KG or Paul, and he has been absolutely terrible this year; shane on the other hand brings the same good D, an outside shot and no ego; id also ask the rockets about Von Wafer, he would be great for the C's to get

some other trade ideas iv had are:

scal and tony for raja bell
pruitt or giddens and powe or baby for linas kleiza
leon powe/big baby/walker/pruitt/obryant/giddens (1 of them, not all of them) for dahntay jones
scal, giddens, and allen for Darko Milicic (if there was any way we could get marc gausol....do it)
scal, o bryant, big baby for james jones
Tony or scal and giddens for corey brewer
scal and TA for reggie evans and kareem rush
scal and TA for john salmons
scal and TA for jason Kapono
Tony and pruitt for Deshaun Stevenson
sign robert horry
hope joe smith gets bought out, or try to trade for him

Thats all I got, its hard with how little pieces the C's have to give away

Of the trades proposed in this thread, I like:

Scal & TA for Salmons
Scal & TA for Raja Bell
Scal, Gidden & TA for Milicic
TA, Powe & Scal for Joe Smith
Pruitt & Giddens & Pick for Grant Hill

I like the idea of getting Von Wafer or Battier from Houston, but why would a contending team trade away good rotation players? Don't like the idea of getting Artest. Why has Houston's defense been worse since acquiring him?
