Is Jerry Stackhouse a possibility?

Post#1 » by stretch » Mon Feb 9, 2009 6:27 pm

People have been throwing around Matt Barnes, Grant Hill, Joe Smith..
as options to trade for using Veal and TA.

how about Stackhouse? Granted, it looks like he's backed away from his stance that Dallas should consider other options if he's not in their plans. But Rick Carlisle doesn't play him consistently.

Stack's still got it. Big time scorer, he will do the things Tony Allen does on his best days, but consistently. And Stack is a decent defender.. on our squad, he would give another body to put on opposing wing scorers and potentially even LeBron.

Would Dallas do it? what if we sent them OBryant or Powe or Davis (they need help down low), along with TA and Veal? It would also free up roster spots, should Marbury and/or Smith be bought out.

Stackhouse has impressed me in the playoffs with Dallas. Both his defense and scoring. Remember those great blocks against the Heat in the finals? Sure he's a little selfish.. but he might fit right in.

Stack is an awful defensive player, when he was a good offensive player you could overlook it but he is neither now.

I have said numerous times that we should bring him in. He almost won sixth man twice while in Dallas. He didn't play well in his limited burn before leaving the team, but he probably still has more in the tank than Tony. The problem is Dallas wants to trade him and the only way we could (realistically) acquire him is if he was bought out. And Sully, he really wasn't an awful defensive player in Dallas. He was awful in Detroit and Washington, but he played very good on-ball defense in Dallas' 06 playoff run.

No thanks on Stackhouse, he's just not what the Celtics need.

Stack is pretty much done at this point. Even in his prime he was a volume scorer at best, now he's a blatantly inefficient chucker.

He's a good teammate, a guy who I'd love to have mentoring the younger guys, but he's not a quality basketball player anymore. Mavs fans couldn't wait to get him out of the rotation, and their current starting SG is Antoine Wright....
