Is Charlie Villanueva an option?

Check this out from yahoo:

"F Charlie Villanueva will become a restricted free agent after this season. Because the Bucks don't want to pay the luxury tax next season, they may be forced to trade him before next week's trading deadline. Villanueva has emerged as a major player for the Bucks in recent weeks. Villanueva entered Wednesday night's game against the Pacers averaging 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. In the last 13 games, however, Villanueva has averaged a team-high 22.9 points and team-leading 8.1 rebounds."

Do we have anything to land this guy? He would be an excellent addition, obviously.

I'd certainly like to see danny look into it but I doubt we have anything they'd want. Powe+TA maybe?

You know what I'm going to say this once and only once. Stop with all these trade ideas. This is a salers markets. Teams are looking to cut salary and cap help for next season. The Celtics don't have any expiring contracts to offer a team. Therefore I doubt they will make a trade. If the Celtics make any moves it would be via free agency. The Celtics have to wait see what players are offered buy outs. Right now the Cs don't have any valuable assets, they traded them all when we got KG and Ray before last season. Now I know this isn't going to stop the trade threads. But you have to keep it real and say the Celtics will not make a trade this season.

We'd have to give up something nice for him. Not happening

I think next season is going to be a really good season for the Cs to make upgrades to the team via trade. They have Scal and Ray coming off the books in 2010. I'm not saying we trade Ray Allen but you never know what might be out there.

I brought up Charlie V in another thread, I'd only want to go after him if we could keep him though and he will probably want to test the waters in free agency the way he has played of late. He's got size and range, blocks shots, etc. He'd probably be a pretty expensive rental.

I have been thinking about that. Obviously expirings sound nice but they actually will need bodies not expirings. Tony at 2.5 mil and and some combo of Gabe, Baby, Powe, Giddens might work. It would likely also require the teams '11 1st but CV would be nice.

As far as a contract for CV I think something in the 6-8 mil is going to do it he will likely take a short term deal because nobody is going to be signing guys to long contracts this offseason.

The problem for the Bucks is that his QO is for 4.6 mil and that has them at the lux tax threshold and they will only have a 10 guys under contract for next season. If they can move him and get some cheap serviceable bodies then they may be able to keep Sessions.

Not saying they couldn't do better but it may not be as bad it looks.

His surge after the Redd injury could be a mirage. He's in a contract year. You don't want to make a mistake like Milwaukee did with Bobby Simmons. A team will likely overpay him.

Exactly...this guy has been off-and-on and generally disinterested in reading the game or truly improving himself - now in a contract year he gets an oportunity to shoot a lot because of injuries and he's blowing up...this guy has been in my "Tim Thomas Fanclub" charter member since his rookie year...as a backup or situational starter at 6 million I like him because he is capable of going off in any game and you can probably coax good games out of him when you need him to be big - but he is a 13-15ppg and 6-7 rebound career guy from what we've seen of him - isn't driven to fulfill his potential - other than at a time where it gets him paid..

To some extent that is true and I don't think that CV is a 17/8 starting PF waiting to bust out, I think he exposes weaker bench players. But unlike Bobby Simmons he has the talent and skill set. He gives you 17/8 per minute production in bench mins at 6'11". He isn't the next Kevin Garnet but he is the next Joe Smith with 3 pt range and better rebounding. He has been extremely consistent for a young player off the bench in the NBA. While his shooting dipped a bit last season this is not a spike in performance this is who CV is he is just getting less mins to actually do it this year.
