Does anybody else think that the NBA should put some relevance to all the all star game like home court advantage in the finals like in the MLB?
I mean yeah seeing no defense and dunks is cool but thats what the rest of the all star weekend is for - the flashy stuff. I think it'd be more interesting to watch the most talented players in the league play together with the need to win the game.
Plus the argument against this in the MLB is that it puts the players at risk but one we arn't dealing with fragile pitchers in the nba and two whats one more basketball game to a season?

The game is meant to be fun, so I see no reason to change it. I think it was an awful idea from baseball, so I don't see why any sport would want to copy it.

I would recommend not even having it. It is a complete waste of time and I haven't watched one in years, and don't plan on ending that streak. Especially in times like this, all the flash, glitter, pampered rich athletes getting all this praise. I really annoys me, but that is why I don't watch. To each is own.

Re: Meaning of the All Star game
I personally barely even watch the All Star game simply because it lacks so much of the stuff that makes basketball interesting to me. Team play, defense, coaching strategy, etc.
I think of All star weekend as vacation for the All Stars, where they can go hang out and shmooze and do dunks off the backboard =D

Don't do the baseball thing. That was fun the first year it was implemented. Now it is ridiculous. Records should always determine HCA.

It's just a mid-season break, and even the players in the stunts and game are getting a break. Set up so some gomer from a company you've never heard of can pay a briefcase of cash to the league to award a trophy for a competition you couldn't care less about. $$$$$'s baby.
About the last thing I want, is for PP, KG, RA to get injured in the ASG by caring less who won. Thereby giving home court advantage to the Cavs by default.

how can you be a fan of basketball and not like the all-star game, I love it. You get to see more of the players personalities ( shaqs intro this year) and its all about having fun. I love seeings the guys with grins on there faces while playing. Seeing how proud guys like danny granger r to be there for the first time. These guys are VERY honored to be chosen unlike other sports (NFL) where players make up excuses to drop out. In my eyes the nba all star game and weekend are byfar the best of the 4 major sports. Nothing should be changed about it, its fantastic. If you want to see defense, strategy, etc, etc, you have 82 games a year plus playoffs, the allstar game is meant to be fun and thats why its the highest rated all star event of the major 4 and the most talked about allstar event of the major 4, and i really dont think that will ever change.

Easily KingJaffyJoe, All-Star games lacks actual basketball. I'd much rather watch the Olympics where they have to actually play as a team.
I like watching the festivities, but the actual GAME is not interesting to me.

While there is certainly nothing more exciting that an uncontested Mo Williams jumpshot, this sounds like a bad idea.

It's one game guys. One game where the players can relax a little more, make it more entertaining for the massive audience that tunes in to watch the best players on the planet.

More entertaining for the masses who don't really understand basketball, but more boring for me. I want to see the players play actual basketball, not do their best immitation of the Harlem Globetrotters.
