Tony Allen to have thumb surgery

Celtics president Danny Ainge said that guard Tony Allen is slated to have left thumb surgery tomorrow and he is hopeful he wil return to action by the playoffs. The injury-plagued Allen suffered the injury on Feb. 8 versus San Antonio and has already missed 15 games this season to ankle and thumb injuries. Allen is averaging 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.21 steals in 19.1 minutes per game. The 6-foot-4, 213-pounder's injury opens the door for more playing time for guard Gabe Pruitt.
"I hope he's ready for the playoffs," Ainge said.

That's a bummer. Maybe that's why we made a Cassell trade, to acquire another wing? Kind of how Pollard got injured last year and we went out and got PJ. If we can't get anyone, hopefully we'll try to develop one of Walker or Giddens and not play Pierce/Allen 40+ minutes a game.

Even if hes ready for the playoffs, without many games beforehand he'd likely be a walking turnover
Hopefully we get someone with a decent offensive game in that spot Cassell has left behind, if no changes happen our bench has become

yeah thats a big point here, if the Cassell trade was just to get Marbury (or a 5) then Walker really needs to start playing now, he and Pruitt will need to step up as we will need to rest Ray and Paul as much as possible coming up to the playoffs

If Scal could get back to playing well, I think an 8 man rotation should do. Eddie, Scal and Powe should be able to handle heavy minutes (maybe 30 minutes each)

tony is snakebit and he seems to live under a dark cloud. Thank god we let d west go in atrade because he was the same way and so was al. all three of those guys that we drafted that year can't seem to stay on the court. Durability is a very under-rated quality in an athlete. How about Gabe and Giddens for Daquan Cook? we keep open roster spots for marbury and a big man and we get another shooter which we could use. If danny can't find a pg or a big man I would definitely go after a wing player- preferably one who can shoot the 3. it's pretty clear at this point that tony allen is never going to be the guy we all hoped he would be. hate to say it yet again but we should have signed pose and let tony go. Hey, if NO is so worried about cash maybe they want a do over onthe posey signing and would be willing to send him back to us? It sure seems like they're throwing inthe towel on this season by tradng chandler. West, Smith ,Wilcox and Armstrong aren't bad but you don't win an nba championship with those guys as your bigs

Yeah real shame to see the hornets throw away chandler like that... their owners would now regret the posey signing, and he would have stayed if not for their offer
TA will always be what he has been for the last few seasons, solid bench player... but nothing more, definately not a 6th man on a championship team like our staff had hoped

Damn this really sucks. On the bright side, maybe Bill Walker will be able to get some playing time and show what he's made of.

Well this complicates the roster situation going forward quite a bit. The C's have several important needs but lack the roster spots and trade assets to make any significant changes. It's seeming more and more like the Celtics will pick up Marbury or a big man, and thats it. This leaves the Celtics AWFULLY thin at the 2-3 spots. Scal, Pruitt and/or Walker are going to have step up big-time.

Good news in bad news. I wish him good surgery and recovery, but I hope he will be not back till playoffs. His play destroys over ball movement, so Im happy he wont play.
Also this forces Ange to improve team, a good thing since he is not active this year.

Best way to put it - he is horrible to watch on court and now he even ruins ny trade value he has by constantly getting hurt and needing surgery.
On the bright side - Doc doesn't have to bench him like ive been calling for all season, and now we can go with House at the 2 guard (catch and shoot time) and pruitt at the point with scal spreading the floor and playing some mean d.

House is definately better suited to the 2, so this isnt all bad.. Hoepfully Scal can get his touch back from just before he was injured, Walker can get some minutes and really i dont think we will notice Tony is gone for the most part

My only question is who defends Lebron in the playoffs off the bench? I don't even think Doc is willing to put Walker into the rotation... we'll see...

Why does anyone have to? LeBron plays, Pierce plays. LeBron sits, Pierce sits.

Thats not ideal though... Lebrons likely to play close to the full game, and we will have the finals to deal with after that series is through and dont want Pierce completely worn down.
Would be handy to just have someone to throw at him for 5 minutes
