IMO: NO will not waive Joe Smith

Looking at the roster of NO, I can see that they rather buyout Sean Marks than Joe Smith. It is obvious that Joe is much better than him.

Unless Joe Smith refuses to play for them.

They probably won't; it's not entirely impossible though. But they're already conceding the season, and if Smith doesn't want to play there and they'd rather go with young guys they'd consider keeping (Wilcox?)...

It's wishful thinking, they'll keep him.

Funny how we get doubly screwed - we lose Posey, and the Hornet's signing Posey ultimately makes us lose out on Smith.

Also funny how the financial climate made an expiring contract actually worth something legitimate and kept Joe from getting bought out. The Knicks must be hanging onto Marbury for now for just that reason.

The most ironic thing - New Orleans still got more for Chandler than Memphis did for Gasol.

Scal, O'Bryant, Tony Allen for Mo Pete, Melvin Ely saves the Hornets money long-term, and putting that deal on the table might be an incentive for them to buy out Joe Smith.

yes they won't waive him. the trade actually gives them depth in the frontcourt this season and flexibility in the summer so it was a good trade for them despite giving up chandler.

From what I hear tonight from nba tv Joe Smith wants to come to Boston really bad. If he was cut he would sign with Boston.

This makes a lot of sense to me. NOH clearly wants to save money, and while Peterson is an OK player, he is clearly overpaid and the Hornets don't really need him (they have a fairly deep stable of wings). Again, Peterson is only OK, but he does the things we need, and with Allen out we have nothing but question marks at the backup 2/3 spot I think "OK" is a significant upgrage. I'd rather get Smith than Ely, but Ely is better than nothing.

That is really interesting I thought he wanted to go back to Cleveland. I wish they would buy him out. Maybe they will buyout Wilcox but he really isnt what we need.

With NO cutting future payroll, this deal makes lots of sense for both teams.
