Bulpett - Mikki Moore expected to be a Celtic

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Mon Feb 23, 2009 7:55 pm

DENVER — Mikki Moore is expected to be a Celtic by this time tomorrow, according to NBA sources. The 7-footer waived last week by Sacramento will by all accounts clear waivers Tuesday morning, at which time he will be a free agent.

Celtic director of basketball operations Danny Ainge had no comment on the issue, other than to deny he has made a formal offer to Moore. It is known that he has spoken with Moore’s representative, though the same is true for other potential free agents.

But league sources insist Moore will pick the Celtics over a number of other high profile suitors.

Moore was put on waivers after the Thursday deadline, meaning he won’t clear the 48-hour business-day period until tomorrow.

With Bulpett reporting this I'd say its pretty much a done deal. Moore's better then nothing and has the skills to contribute situationally to this team.

Cant exactly be fussy... Smith is still with OKC, and what else is out there?

Best option is to just pick him up while we can, deal with smith and others later if they become available

All I want from Moore--is for him to keep Varejao off the glass in the ECF.....and a couple of elbows in the throat wouldn't hurt either.

Ziller: Moore is "Mark Blount Bad"

Shamrock-blk-trans_tiny by Jeff Clark on Feb 23, 2009 3:01 PM EST in News/Links Comment 3 comments

Read more: ziller, Mark Blount (C - MIA), Mikki Moore (F - SAC), Sacramento Kings

You know the sound that Krusty the Clown makes when he gets bad news? "AAAARGH!" Yeah, that sound. That's what went through my head when I read the following lines.

I was going to ask Tom Ziller (Kings blogger extrordinare) for a scouting report on Mikki Moore if we signed him, but he beat me to the punch. Here's what he had to say:

Art Thompson III of the Orange County Register suggests that Moore could "duplicate or at least come close to providing the type of production that P.J. Brown supplied."

I like Mikki, and he's a great teammate. I will miss rooting for him more than any of the other five players the Kings traded or waived last week. But anyone expecting salvation in the form of this dude is in for great a surprise.

Moore is, and has been, among the worst rebounders in the league at the power forward position ... never mind center. He's Mark Blount bad in this area of the game. MARK. BLOUNT.

P.J. Brown, by contrast, is in the Top 100 all-time in rebound rate.

Moore has springs in his legs, but he does not block shots (6'6 Francisco Garcia had more per-minute last season). He can do three things well: take charges (though he'll also rack up a ton of fouls trying to get those), hit the elbow jumper and finish at the rim, provided the ball is handed off to him within five feet of the basket and there are no defenders within 10 feet.

Moore has an amazing story, with a one-in-a-million work ethic and a heart of solid gold. I'm a huge fan of Moore, The Man. So if a team like Boston wants to had him in order to help the youngsters stay motivated, to add 2.3 guttural screams per game, to boost the dreadlock/frightening tattoo quotient ... by all means, do it. But don't think Mikki will come in and be another P.J. Brown. That is not this dude.

I'm going to wait until the last minute and see if I can score decent seats from some scalpers.

Worst case, I'll just watch it at the ESPN Zone across the street. :)

He's good in a small fish, big pond setting imo. They expected him to be something he's not in Sacramento and here all we'd be looking for is 10-15min of doing dirt

I think his saving grace in terms of his contribution to the C's is his ability to knock down the mid range pretty consistently. Right now we have NO other big besides KG who can help spread the floor for all of our slashers and inside players like PP, Tony (if he ever gets back), Rondo, Leon and Perk. Just look at the Laker game as evidence of how important it is for our offense to have a big who can provide this skill. When KG met his quota for allowable mins in the game (per the refs/nba/lakers pre-game arrangement) we were absolutely screwed with Big Baby taking all those wide open jumpers. Moore can at least provide us with a guy who can knock down those types of looks.

Defensively he isn't a world beater but he at least provides energy and hustle which in itself can be a valuable skill when playing with superior talent like the C's have.

The Celticsblog stuff is not accurate.

PJ would rank 87th all time at 14.3, Joe Smith 98th at 13.9 and Mikki Moore would be 115th at 12.6 if he qualilfied (5000 rebounds), Mark Blount would be at 133rd at 11.7 (if he qualified) which is misleading because he is more like a 10.6 since his break out year.

But more to the point PJ had a PER of 8 in the postseason and a reb% of 10.9, somehow I think that Mikki could manage that. Things aren't always what they appear.

If Moore decides to come back to Boston, I'd welcome him. He is better now than he was his 1st time with us. He can help this team.

We are worried about rebounding with Perk,KG,Powe,Davis, and Pierce on this team? It will make Moore's job a lot easier playing with these guys.

I'm not sure what it is but I actually really like Mikki. Always have. Everytime I've seen him play, he's produced a lot of hustle plays, he can hit the mid-range consistently, and always fits in the system he's in. He was really great on the Nets. I think he would be a terrific fit off the bench.

Good point...we don't expect hardly anything out of him...basically, just don't suck as bad as POB, which I think he can handle...

I would drop Giddens before Pruitt.
