Question if Smith gets bought out

I know this will probably not happen, since it looks like Joe Smith isn't going anywhere.

But if he did get bought out, assuming we sign Starbury we would be at 15 roster spots, could we waive Walker or someone like that or even Moore to make room for him?

Probably a pipe dream but possible.

Eesh! Don't waive walker. Giddens or pruitt if you're going to get rid of a young guy.

But yeah, I am pretty sure we can always cut someone and sign Smith.

Yeah, wave Pruitt or Giddens or even TA...it'd be better to have Smith than any of those guys...

I would rather not cut Pruitt or Giddens (esp Gabe) if Joe Smith were to be bought out. Could we cut Mikki if the team determined Smith would be a more productive option?

Yeah that is my question, is there a 48-72 waiver period if we signed Moore and then dumped him that would force us to cut one of the young guys.

Gabe hasn't shown **** but I still think he'll end up being better than Giddens...

Why not? He'll be the 4th point guard in the rotation, which means never getting off the bench.

As much as I'd hate to see us waste a first rounder, I think Giddens would get cut if we were going to sign Smith. Ever since the team broke a few draft promises (most notably to Arenas) in the early part of the century, Danny's been trying to increase the reputation of the team. It'd look bad to cut someone we just signed and made two trades to get in Moore or to cut someone injured in TA. I'd say maybe Pruitt gets cut, but he's shown more than Giddens at this point and can likely help more, even after the Marbury signing.

I think overall, even if he gets bought out, I doubt the Celtics will be players for Smith at this point.

^^Good point...Smith would probably look at the roster and feel he wouldn't get so much PT...

There is still no clear-cut indication whether the Thunder will let Joe Smith go before Sunday's buyout buzzer. There were repeated rumblings before the trade deadline that Oklahoma City -- which had to take Smith back when it rescinded last week's trade for Tyson Chandler -- wanted to keep Smith if it couldn't move him again. ESPN.com

That was widely dismissed by rival teams as posturing by OKC to keep Smith's trade value up, but I'm hearing increasing skepticism that we'll see 1995's No. 1 overall pick on the open market before the summer. The Celtics -- presumed to be the co-favorite for Smith along with Cleveland if he did work out a buyout -- decided they couldn't wait and inked Moore as soon as he became available. ESPN.com

I think Danny knew he wasn't gonna be let go.....plus he's riding the pine...sooooooo 8-)

smith is either going back to cleveland or to Denver where he could get a lot of playtime.

Who's to say there is a push to buy him out now for either side (Smith or the Thunder?) Maybe he just stays put? But if I had to guess I'd think his interest in coming here is lower than it was (reportedly) a week ago...
