The Stephon Marbury era in Boston will begin Friday morning when Marbury, the former Knicks point guard, officially signs with the Boston Celtics.
"The great thing is that they want me to play with them," Marbury said at his home in Purchase, N.Y. He added that he had already met with some of his new teammates.
Marbury is scheduled to meet with reporters in Boston on Friday morning and be in uniform Friday night when the Celtics host the Indiana Pacers. Asked about his role with the Celtics, presumably to back up guard Rajon Rondo, Marbury said,
"I'll just let my game speak for itself."http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/27/sport ... ml?_r=1&hp

Here's what I don't get.....we can discuss this if it happens.......Do you as a fan want a player to play his best or not. What if his best means his best takes another players position. This is a possibility. Just saying.

Don't overlook indiana, they have had our number this year.
If Pierce is hurting though, I say rest him.
I am going, and I will be giving Marbury a standing ovation, I just hope others stand as well

Couldn't come at a better time with Pruitt needing counseling on his off-the-court life.

I cant imagine as a fan I wouldnt want my team or its players to not to play good or put his best performance out there, since if he does then it makes my team better and our chances for a title better, so yes I would want him to give his full effort.

If your refferring to Marbury possibly trying to take over Rondos spot, what do you think brah??
Since when and Im sure you have a good idea on Marbury and his experience just like I do, since when has Marbury didnt want to be in the spot light and be the go to guy.
This isnt K.G or Ray were talking about, they knew how to lead and how to contribute, Marbury has never been able to lead or contribute, his moto is ME and Only me.
Now imagine when he gets his chance to display his game and you know he is going to prove everyone wrong so I can honesly say that he will try to out do Rondo..... Bank on it.
And as far as Rondo, I feel for him cause he is young and he has tried very hard and he has done very well for young player.
Now imagine Rondo without that much experinece with pressure and having to defend his starting job and having to look over his shoulder everday and at the same time trying to lead this team to the finals............ He will definitely be effected by Marbury.

You got a good point Kefa, at least your looking at the whole picture. But a good point.

Wasn't that supposed to happen when Cassell got here last year? The fact is that there's 0% chance of Rondo losing his starting spot to anybody this year. The chances of Rondo losing his starting spot to Marbury this year is the same as Kevin Garnett losing his spot to Mikki Moore. Not going to happen. Getting Marbury wont really effect Rondo. The only competition Marbury can give Rondo that might effect him is late game situations because of Rondo's shooting, but sometimes House finishes out games instead of Rondo so that's not going to be anything different.

I think your example of K.G and Mikki is a bit overboard, there arent really that many F or P/F that are on the same level as K.G.
K.G is a F.H.O.F where on the other hand Mikki was cut by the Kings.
Also can you honestly sit here and compare Cassell to Marbury, Cassell was done years ago when he was aquired by the Clippers, if Im correct I think Marbury still has a lot left in him (assuming he picks up where he left off).
So I disagree Rondo does have something to be concerned about.
Also keep in mind, this isnt Marbury testing phase only, you can consider this as his contract year.
Not only he needs to prove a lot of his critics worng but he also needs to secure himself a good contract for the up and coming seasons as well, unless he is willing to reitre after this year which I doubt he will.

No, Rondo has nothing to worry about because the starting job is not up for grabs. If anything Rondo has cemented himself into that role LONG-TERM with his play this season. He'll be hear long after Kevin, Paul and Ray retire.
The only real questions are how many minutes does Marbury steal from House, and if Marbury plays well does he crack the "end of game" rotation. To this day, Rondo still loses "end of game" minutes to House, mostly because of his free-throw shooting woes. So Marbury will have the "chance" to win some of those minutes.

house will be getting the minutes Tony would have been getting. I dont see house losing any minutes right now, maybe when the whole team is healthy he could lose some minutes.
Injured:
rondo/marbury
allen/house
pierce
davis/powe
perkins/moore
healthy:
rondo/marbury
ray/house/tony
pierce/tony/scal
garnett/davis/powe
perkins/moore/powe
seems like scal davis and powe are gonna lose minutes.

Marbury would have to play like Chris Paul to usurp Rondo out of the starting lineup. If that happens, I don't think anyone would mind.

You're projecting your personality onto Rondo - not only does Rondo have the complete support of the entire organization - he's also BETTER than Marbury at everything other than scoring...on top of that, he is one of the cockiest SOB's i've ever encountered - he's not going to be "feeling the pressure" from Marbury - I think Marbury's presence will up Rondo's level of play because it will keep him on his toes to not lose minutes in any game - a COMPLETELY fair thing to happen if Rondo is playing badly one night - this has happened time to time this year with Eddie getting extended run as the hot hand.
Bottom line: the hot hand plays - if Rondo and Marbury are hot they will both play in the backcourt - if House and Marbury are hot they'll play, etc....its about options, not defending turf...we all know who the starter is...Marbury is incapable of taking Rondo's job and without a long-term contract or anything, he won't be given the opportunity to either...

its been more than a year. House probably doesnt care about it.
if not, hopefully things will be cleared between marbury and house and garnett.

Marbury and Eddie House got into some trash-talking during a preseason game between the Knicks and Celtics. House said bygones are bygones.
"We're not rivals," House said. "That was preseason. It's in the past and if he's going to be a part of this family, he's in this family. He's on a winning team."
