NOW he wants a buyout......

Funny he wants one now......
Several league sources said Friday that Smith and his agent, Dan Fegan, have been talking to the Thunder about securing a buyout. The Cavs have expressed interest, setting up what could be intensifying negotiations ahead of Sunday's midnight deadline for players to be released and still join playoff rosters. But with many factors at play, including Smith's and Thunder coach Scott Brooks' public positions on the matter, it is far from a sure thing. There are other players available who the Cavs could add to their roster, but at the moment none seem to be more than third-string players or emergency reserves. Lorenzen Wright has already secured that role on the Cavs. Cleveland Plain Dealer

After what happened to Big Ben it was quite clear to me, that Joe Smith will start to really push for a buyout.

If he gets bought out, we should go after him hard. Smith is a much better player than Moore. I certainly don`t want to see him end up in CLE. We can just cut Pruitt to open up a roster spot, it is not like he will get any minutes...
We don`t necessarily need Smith now but just to keep him away from other teams...

I saw this coming even before the wallace injury. sportsguy says OKC killed the chamdler deal because of money not because of his injury. So logically getting rid of smith saves them more money. I also think there' something funny going on with smith and his agent. Either he didn't want to play for the C's or he's been promised something by the cavs orlakers. I don't know if the lakers have a roster spot or not but it wouldn't surprise me if they're involved in this as well. Detroit could be a dark horse as well

It sounds like Joe Smith got no choice. He is just another McDyess.

When we made the move for Moore I still thought there was a distinct possibility of Smith getting bought out. As nice as Smith would have been to have, I don't think we would have been players. He probably just wants to go back to Cleveland.

Come on man you make it seem as though we're trying to back door somebody here. Truth of the matter is the Lakers haven't even spoken to or about Smith, cause if they did the L.A. Times and every other media outlet here would've known about it. Yes they do have an open roster spot but I can tell you unequivocally they're not interested in Smith.
You gotta remember we run the Triangle offense, if they were going to bring in some one it would be somebody that's familiar with the offense. It's just not that easy for us to bring in somebody and say,"go play ".....................it don't work like that.
If you wanna look at somebody side ways look at the Cavs.......Ben gets hurt out 4-6 weeks now Smith suddenly want's a buy out ? And he played in Cleveland before too ?

praying and a hoping he doesn't get bought out.
I know it's rude but if he does I'd like to cut Moore for him

)
Smith wouldn't come here with Moore here because he knows the front court is crowded.
BTW, how bad does it look that Mutumbo said Ainge didn't want him? Just horrible.

Exactly. But I have a feeling if he is bought out, it won't be good news for us. He is go to Cleveland, because he can get more playing time with Wallace out and his played for the Cavs before.
As soon as Wallace got hurt, I had a feeling the Cavs would try to someone get Smith. Joe Smith IMO is an **** if he wants to get bought out now. I thought he was tight with KG.

How do you explain trading for Gasol and Ariza last year DEEP if it just doesn't work like that? I'm not saying the Lakers are in play for Smith, but this reasoning about the triangle is not what leads me to believe that...

That's what ESPN would have you believe. Cleveland fans know different. He has said Mo Williams is his best friend in the NBA. How awkward that trade must have been for them.

"What for?" Smith told The Oklahoman when asked about his buyout ambitions. "I've been here all year. Why would I want to do that now? I'm [not] seeking it.''
"Like I've said all year long, I like these young guys around here,'' he said. "We've developed some type of chemistry now where I got faith in them and they got faith in me. The way we've been playing lately, it's been a good thing.''

Joe Smith is a liar.
Seriously though, I can't say that I blame him. He had 2 options at the time- accept a buyout and be a bench player, or stay put in OKC.
Now a 3rd option has become available - take a buyout and become a starter on a contender. Can't say that I blame him.

Just an idea - maybe, just maybe Smith (and everyone else in the NBA)
have more than one friend?
I dont know about Mo, but KG have
loads of friends, and I wouldnt be surprised if Smith would be one of them.

I understand but Smith said in December he wanted to play for the Cavs. I'm just clearing up that other than some shoddy ESPN reports his only wish so far was to rejoin Cleveland not Boston. So no reason to call him a liar when you look straight to the sources mouth. He never said "I'd like to play in Boston," that was only speculation.
He also said Mo was his
BEST friend in the NBA

Realisticly speaking, players and their agents evaluate offers from all teams, and we know for a fact both Boston and Cavs offered contracts (among other teams). Its possible he may prefer to play with Cavs (likely but not definite proposition), and many thing may happen till contract is signed. I dont see the point of going into who is better friends with whom, we will hardly know all details till they write their biographies
