Moore, Gooden, Smith, Foyle, Swift

Post#1 » by GreenMachine » Mon Mar 2, 2009 10:25 am

Put them in order. Not how good they once were, or could be - how good they are, right now.

Secondarily does the order change if we are talking about how they would fit on the Cs?

Smith
Gooden
Moore
Swift
Foyle

Mikki Moore has been pretty mediocre. I know it is just a few games and he doesn`t know the plays yet. He will get better but especially defensively he looks horrible. He is SOFT, can`t defend anyone one on one and has stone hands.

He just remind me too much of Blount and POB...Ugh...

Smith and Gooden are much, much better players...

I agree with your order though I haven't seen Moore play yet. It would be good to get Gooden or Smith though.

From best to worst, here's my ranking. It looks like
Cleveland gets the pick of the litter with their full, prorated MLE;
San Antonio gets second best
Celtics get the third best shooter of the group, but physically the weakest interior defender

Player *********** Offensive PER **** Defensive PER ****** NET PER ********* Comments
Joe Smith ************ 14.7 ****************** 17.3 ************ -2.6 17 ft. Shot, weak post defense
Drew Gooden ******* 17.1 ****************** 23.6 ************* -6.5 Outside Shot, slow laterally
Mikki Moore ********** 9.7 ****************** 20.0 *********** -10.3 Shot, Weak on the block
Stromile Swift ******** 7.6 ****************** 17.4 ************* -9.8 Poor basketball IQ
Adonal Foyle *********16.0 ***************** 13.5 *************** 2.5 NEVER played, career stinker

Moore should do better than he did in Sacramento simply because the Celtics team defense
is so much more organized.

I don't know if Smith can space the floor, but he can probably help defend the 3 behind Pierce.

Don't fool yourselves guys, Drew Gooden is the best of the bunch. He's a starter on a lot of teams. All the others are bench guys or worse.

If we don't get Gooden(which we probably won't) I'd like to see him go to the Spurs. This way they will give the Lakers more trouble in the West.

The Celtics -- the team that Smith most wanted to play for this season -- have dropped out of the bidding after signing veteran big man Mikki Moore last week, according to the source. Moore had been released by Sacramento after the Kings had acquired several players -- including, ironically, Gooden, who came from the Bulls in a trade that sent guard John Salmons and center Brad Miller to Chicago for Gooden and forward Andres Nocioni. "Boston's out of it," the source said. NBA.com

This team must really love Pruitt/Giddens/Walker to keep them around if it means losing out on a solid bench player. I don't necessarily thing the Cs need Smith right now, but at the expense of a guy who won't help you at all? Tempting.

I believe if Danny thinks we have a chance at getting Gooden or Smith he will throw Gabe out on the street.

It's not like we can have whoever we want.

Obviously, Danny has talked with the players teams and possibly with the players and/or players agents and knows where each player prefers to end up. Smith to Cleveland was most likely predestined. Danny just did a bunch of transactions with Sac so he must have known what was going to happen with Gooden and maybe he wanted Moore over Gooden, who knows.

If Danny and Doc really want energy and defense off the bench, then Moore may just be the best choice of the 3. He may also be the only one willing to go to Boston. There's not a lot of minutes available for a pf.

with scal and tony gone we need a wing player. If Doc isn't going to play giddens or walker then why not bring in patterson or bonzi or antoine? of those guys ruben patterson is the best defender

All the talk remains that Smith wanted to come here all along, but he'll settle for Cleveland now since we don't want him after signing Moore.

I'm worried that after all is said and done, we jumped on the worst player out of Smith, Gooden, Mutombo, etc. Seems like Ainge was inconsistent - passed up Mutombo to be patient, but then was impatient and pounced on Moore.

I guess as far as Smith, one *could* argue that Big Baby is really bringing the main thing Smith offered - jump shooting, and that the height and athleticism of Moore makes him the best fit. It's possible and could work out if he starts to get the system more; it's certainly early and could happen.

But so far he looks like a more aggressive but equally lost version of POB. People who keep arguing that he was a good move because he's better than POB don't get it - POB was never going to contribute, the question is whether Moore is better than the other guys we could have gotten - Mutombo, Joe Smith, Gooden. POB was gone regardless.

Anyone ever think that maybe Moore was the best option for what this team was looking for. Not just what he can give us now, but he may be the only one that will resign here for anotheer year or two that really has the ability to do so. I look at this group and see age and injuries except for Gooden, who will comand more money to remain here, and I would be more willing to give that money to Marbury. Remember that we already had 4 bigs here that are pretty good and Moore fits in with the rotation needs we have here right now.

I don't understand any regrets about not bringing in Mutumbo - 4 points, 7 rebounds total this year. Perhaps they're just holding him out for the playoffs, but I've never felt that the Celtics should have been in the market for a player incapable of playing large minutes in case of injury to Perk.

Lets not pretend that any of these big guys are border-line all-stars, all have their faults and/or are over the hill. Perhaps Ainge pulled the trigger a bit early, but several of these guys were very late waived players, better to have Moore than nothing.

Can Swift play any backup 3, or is he strictly a 4. He was sort of thought of the way Rudy Gay was thought of in terms of athletic tweener 3/4, at one time.

He's only 29, 6'10, 220. I don't know. Just asking. The backup SF spot is a big concern, in my view.

Swift has a poor basketball IQ and probably couldn't come in here and learn the system and play any better than walker could for 5-10 minutes a game. Once the playoffs start the rotation will be shortened, but we need to get Ray and Paul rest now, and I think Walker is the best option. Even Doc said that they need rest, but we still havn't seen it yet, but probably because Garnett is out.
