Can Scala's injury give us an extra roster spot?

If he's not going to play we could really use the extra spot to sign someone. Preferably a small forward would be the added player. Whose out there? Bonzi Wells, Ruben Patterson and Ronald Dupree are the only ones I can think of. Can anyone think of anyone else worth mentioning?

Nearly a week after suffering his most recent head trauma, Brian Scalabrine today will see a specialist.

"You can't do anything," Scalabrine said of the last week's inactivity. "I can't watch TV for more than 30 minutes. I can't read a book. I can talk to my wife, but she gets tired of that. But I will say this: When I start trying to read a book, everything moves. I have problems with motion during the day."

"I'm very concerned," coach Doc Rivers said. "That's not anything you can joke around with. I mean, we kid him all the time about it, but it's serious. I just don't know anything about this stuff. The whole concussion thing is tough. And it's tough because he wants to play so bad. He was playing so well for us before he got hurt."

Scal seems to pretty screwed up....the team better be prepared to move into the playoffs without him. :(

Its really too bad. He was having a real good season defensively. Surprisingly we are going to miss him if we don't sign a replacement.

I think you could almost say that having a guy back in a game within a month of two concussions is negligent. I know that hasn't been the view historically, but the evidence seems to have mounted up pretty well. And now it looks like Scal may be paying for it--both now and potentially in the future.

Shouldn't give us an extra roster spot. That's what the inactive list is for.

I think our rotation may actually be downgraded going from Scal to Moore. Maybe this gives us an excuse to drop Pruitt and grab someone...I hope. Moore looks BAD so far and I'm upset about missing out on Smith.

For a guy with some potential who just hadn't established himself yet, Pruitt's screw up out in LA may have actually signed his fate. It may have taken the combination of Marbury fitting in and looking good and Scal going down, but he may now be the most vulnerable in one more, last-minute move.

(Then again, you never know: it might both wake him up and lead to his landing in the right situation for him next year.)

I think Pruitt was the most expendable before the DUI thing, I think the DUI really doesn't bear much on his value to the team. He played because they were thin in the back court, he was always an upgrade away from earning his keep somewhere else. Giddens and Walker both project higher than he does, IMO.

I actually believe those reports that Giddens was the guy Danny was trying to trade. But with Marbury fitting in now I think that also contributes to Pruitt's being more expendable. (Not that trying to trade a guy and his being expendable are necessarily the same thing.)

I like Pruitt as the future of this team, and as House's replacement as soon as next year. TA and House's expiring contracts could bring us a very good role player next year. Pruitt would look great with Marbury in the second unit and brings much better defense than House does. Teams will be posturing next year for the 2010 free agents and someone good could be had with some expiring contracts.

Back to the question at hand... if we apply for an injury exception today - would it be granted in time to sign a guy and get him on the playoff roster?

Any CBA junkies lurking?
