If Doc leaves, Pierce to retire

Celtics forward Paul Pierce expressed his loyalty to head coach Doc Rivers on Sunday during a taped ABC interview with Magic Johnson.
"Coach Rivers, I don't want to play for anybody else," Pierce said. "If he goes, then I think I'm ready to retire. I mean, he's a player's coach. He understands the guys, he understands situations, and he's been through struggles."

I feel pretty safe that neither Pierce nor Rivers is going anywhere. Things like this are nice to hear though, it's good to see evidence that the overall chemistry of the organization is as good as it appears. Remember the days when Doc first came here and Pierce and he were barking at each other in the middle of a game? Things have come a long ways.

How ironic if you think back when Rivers initially wanted to see Pierce traded.

Actually it's a stupid thing to say. You retire when you lose your love for the game or when you simply can't keep up with it anymore, not because you have a man-crush on your coach. You quit before your time, and you end up trying to make a comeback like Jordan or allegedly Jason Williams - and Pierce is no Michael Jordan - so he's going to fail and look ridiculous doing it.

How does turning this into a Bosh topic help you at all? You think I'm just a Raptors fan trying to trash talk the Celtics...I'm going to say the same thing about any player who thinks about retiring just because their coach quits. If Kobe says he'll retire when Phil Jackson leaves, I'll say the same thing. If Tim Duncan, my favourite player, says he'll retire when Gregg Popovich leaves, I'll say the same thing. If Bosh says he'll retire when Jay Triano leaves, I'll say the same thing. Get over yourself.

I get that he's a player's coach, but do the players realise some of the really bad rotation moves he pulls form time to time?
Don't get me wrong, I like Doc.
