SAS: Joe Smith to Boston?!?!?!

Stephen A. Smith said Joe Smith will sign with the Celtics
as soon as I can get a video feed or link I will. But till then it's unsubstantiated.
nevertheless, SAS also broke how members of the Celtics challenged Marbury to give up more money and play for Boston, 3-4 weeks ago on espnnews
It would make sense then that Aldridge reported Boston as Smith's first choice, even if someone told him that Boston is out of the running.
the question is whether what he's saying is credible and accurate

how much time does Joe Smith have to sign with a team?
since he was bought out ON TIME, is he eligible for the playoffs even if he makes a decision two weeks later.
it might be wise not to count Boston out then. you never know, even if sources said Smith-to-Cavs is a done-deal

I don't know. there hasn't been a consistent answer on that.
another question: if Joe Smith is as useful and valuable a role player as we made him out to be, then do you really think KG would sit idly by and let him sign with Cleveland? considering that Smith was a player that really guarded KG well in the playoffs.. And considering that LeBron found it necessary today to make comments on ESPN about how much he loves Joe Smith. There must be some hesitation on Smith's part in deciding on Cleveland.. and Boston might have something to do with it. Purely speculation. though substantiated by SAS!

he was bought out on time, and thus can be used in the playoffs
well we'd end up stacked in the front court, not sure how the minutes would work but if he wants to come here we should be all for it
I dont see it happening at all though, he'll be a Cav

I wouldnt mind him ending up in Celtics, this would make it easier to reach the finals, but IMO its more likely he'll go to Cavs - they can offer more mins, more money, and similar chance to win the rings.

Can or will Scal be placed in the injury list or sumfin and a roster spot opened up? I would cut Giddens for Joe Smith...but if there is no need...

If there's any validity to this latest report. Then Ainge doesn't believe the addition of Moore will be enough now that Scalabrine's on the shelf. My immediate thought here is which Celtic is cut? My feeling is Pruitt's a goner but I also believe that Ainge can live with cutting a first round player (Giddens) when you still have Walker to offset that. If Boston is indeed still in the running to sign Smith. Then Giddens will be the odd man out, I think. Because Pruitt still represents insurance at guard with Tony still being out and the uncertainty of Marbury.

Lol .. Smith is joining the Cavs or Spurs. We're not cutting anyone, and DA even said we're not going for Smith anymore.

The Celtics [team stats] had to feel a little twinge when Oklahoma City waived Joe Smith just before the midnight deadline Sunday, allowing him to sign with another club and be eligible for the playoffs. Smith had been the Celts’ first choice as a free agent backup, but they decided to move on Mikki Moore last week.
Rivers said the C’s might still make a pitch for Smith, but Danny Ainge said that wasn’t going to happen.“We thought he would get bought out,” Rivers said. “We just didn’t know for sure. We fully believed that eventually they would work it out. We just couldn’t take the gamble waiting.”

Can't believe that either. By the addition of Mikki Moore Ainge made the decision already. Even though I would've preferred Joe Smith of course...

We made a huge mistake with Moore! Huge! Not only we won`t get Smith but he will go to our biggest opponent! That is just horrible!

That's overstating things quite a bit. We lost out on Joe Smith, not some stud.
Smith is a pretty mediocre scorer, rebounder and defender. If he's an upgrade over Powe/Baby/Moore, it's not by very much. This board really overrates him based on last year's playoff series where he was freakishly hot from mid-range. He's not that good typically, just had a real good stretch.
Alright player and I'd take him over Moore I guess, but Smith going to the Cavs over the Celtics isn't horrible or a crushing blow by any means.

If Smith was on the Cavs....it still aint him im worried about....can think of at least 4 - 5 ahead of him...he is a nice addition....but not as big as marbury
