10 things to finish the Regular Season

Everyone always does these "10 things..." topics so i thought, why not get involved. I don't post here very often but read everyday. I just got back from Boston after seeing the Pacers and Pistons games this past weekend. I saw a lot of good things as well as a lot of negatives, but I wanted to share my point of view on what needs to happen and what doesn't need to happen over the remaining 20 games.

1. Continueing production for BBD and Leon. I have really been impressed watching how well both players have played over the last 3-4 weeks. I was on record earlier saying we should trade Leon, but you just can't find someone with a motor like that.

2. Someone cut off the fist casts that Perk (Left Offensive Tackle) has on. In my short 25 year life, I have never in my life scene anyone with as bad of hands as Perk. I know his stat line was solid last night, but his lack of hands and basketball IQ in unreal. Any chance we can trade him straight up in the off season for Brooke Lopez haha, hell I would even take Brook Shields for Perk. To win banner 18 we really need Perk to step up ala the Detriot Series last season.

3. Is it just me or does Rondo look so uninterested sometimes especially on the defensive end. I think he is one of the best defenders in the league when he wants to be, but sometimes he doesn't fight over screens or let's his guy blow by expecting help. The same goes on the offensive end. If he pushed the ball everytime and remains aggressive, I truely believe we are unbeatable. He is really developing that 15-18 footer.

4. Doc needs to continue having faith for 8-10 mins a game in Billy Walker. He is the only person on our team capable of playing the SF. Pierce needs as much rest as he can get. I have no doubt he was able to perform at such a high level late in last nights game because he had some legs after getting some rest.

5. Defensive effort and intensity; we have played absolutely terrible defense in the last 3 games. None of the bigs have been able to hedge and recover and the guards are not keeping the offensive players between them and the basket. If we play that type of defense tomorrow night, the Cavs will score 120........by halftime.

6. I will throw this in there and it is likely a mute point, but why has no one talked about signing Bonzi Wells. He would be perfect at the backup SF position and is really a tough player. I know he got bought out from his Chinese league team, yet no one talks about him anywhere in the league. I would even sign him in the offseason with part of the MLE with the other part going to Marbury.

7. Record; We need to win at least 16 of our last 20 games in my opinion to have a chance at home court. 64 wins I think will be respectable in the East and maybe the overall league. I think the Cavs and the Lakers will lose a few more games, but if we can win both games this weekend we are definitely setting ourselves up for a chance at it.

8. Steph and Mikki; I definitely think both of these guys are going to help us win number 18. I think Marbury is slowly trying to find his niche and in the next couple weeks will be a force off the bench. Mikki is Mikki, he isn't going to do anything that isnt within himself. Try hard and make 15 footers is about all we can ask. Good guy to spell KG and Perk for 10-15 mins a game.

9. Scal and Tony; I never thought I would say this, but man we miss both of these guys. They both did a lot of small things that I think a lot of us didn't notice until now that we don't have them. I think Scal will get mins when he comes back, but Tony may be lost in the shuffle. We could use his on ball defense against Lebron, Joe Johnson, Rip Hamilton type players.

10. And most importantly, the BIG THREE; KG needs to take as much time as he needs to come back 100%. I would much rather be the 3 seen with 100% of KG than the 1 seed with KG at 75%. Last year was a fluke on the road, I think we will win a good share of road games this season in the playoffs. Ray also needs to find his touch again. He is in what I would call a mini slump. He seems to have lost a bit of his stroke and aggressiveness. We dont win a banner without him returning to peak season form. And finally, the captain and "The Truth." I can see it in Paul eyes the last week that he is ready to take over. He has a reserve about him that you wouldnt normally notice. He is saving that last gear to turn it on for a late season and deep playoff push. There really isn't anyone else I would rather have in the league will the game on the line.

I could probably go into about a 10 page rant right now about Baskbetball IQ's, but I am tired of typing. If we play high level smart basketball the rest of the way, I think Banner 18 is in very realistic reach. GO CELTS!!!!!

I image someone as slick as Gant knows imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I think your comments on Perk were out of left field I think he has been great. Absolutely one of the 10 best defenders in the NBA in exchange for that he isn't Kareem on the offensive end but he is getting better and better.

Interesting comments on Rondo I have noticed it as well, he also doesn't push the ball in the second half. On the radio last week PC coach Keno Davis was talking about the challenge of getting players committed to playing hard for 40 mins. That the AAU schedule were kids will play 2-4 games on a Sat will condition their bodies to let up for stretches as it thinks it is still going for 80-160 mins of play instead of the limits of regulation game. While this is Rondo's 3rd season in the NBA he only played two years at KEN and his mins have increased each year in Boston. My guess is that next season will be the first year Rondo's conditioning will be at an NBA level.

Tough crowd here, frankly I don't really pay attention to who starts the threads, so I don't think imitation was my goal. And as far as Perk goes, I couldn't disagree any more with you. He has gotten gradually worse as the season has progressed. And mostly what I was talking about was his hands and low basketball IQ. Only player in the league that is good for 2 moving screens every game as well as one foul on showing on a screen. Don't get me wrong the guy tries. My problem is the mental aspect of his game. For instance, he literally almost single handedly threw away the game Friday night vs the Pacers when he got a rebound up 7 with 3 mins left and turns it over to Jeff Foster for a layup right underneath the bucket. Its like he panics with the ball. Take your time and use your pivot foot.

Gant, you ain`t...

Perk actually won the game for us against IND. He had two decisive defensive plays in the last couple of minutes.

IMO, Perk has made another step forward this season, he has gotten better every year. He has his off games and consistency is one thing he needs to work on but I can not imagine our team without him...

No trust me I cannot imagine this team without Perk either, but once he eliminates the ridiculous amount of mental brain farts, I think he can be a legitimate starting center for years to come. I had to laugh during the game and post game even Doc was getting on Perk about his hands. Look the ball into your hands big fella.

The pick thing does drive me crazy and Perk is not alone, Baby, and Leon and most of all KG does the same thing. They set picks as if they are taking a charge, with the wide aggressive stances and they just look like they are trying to drill someone. Close your legs a little and just get in the damn way.

Cool I love these things. It's a lot harder to think of 10 things when you're winning a lot of games, but I think you did a good job coming up with 10 that are in fact good points.

The thing you have to remember about Perk is how young he is. He came into the league right out of High school (and one in the south too right?) He will probably have a career where he gets ever so slightly better from season to season, which is perfect for us right now.

Next season, early on, I hope we make him a more intrinsic part of our offense. Ideally we should be going into a big and then out to a shooter or slasher. We've got Perk for the long term so I think it would be a good investment next year to as him to step it up on offense and then through the ball into him a lot more. My point is that he seems to be the learn by doing type and the mental farts will go away (slowly) in time.
