49-0

It's not a coincidence that Pierce mentioned taking care of the ball and not turning it over in the post game interview. The Celts had only 8 TO's in tonight's game. When they take care of the ball they're unbeatable.

Their record when turning the ball over less than 11 times per game? A perfect 49-0. That's simply amazing. It's been their biggest achilles' heel this season and the main reason they've squandered some leads. Impressive stuff tonight.

EDIT: 49, not 63

63-0 is damn impressive. TO's are just such an important stat, every TO is giving away free points...

BUMP (+title change)

I'm surprised no one commented on this... I think it's an incredible stat. We've had good play from individuals in the past but turnovers have killed us regardless. This is a huge key.

Like I said when we first got Marbury, if his play can solve our TO problems, we'll be in very good shape.

Pierce should be the one talking about TO's..dude gets the most ridiculous turnover's...if he handled the ball less, maybe the Celtics would lose less games...Paul and Eddie..neither should be bringing up the ball EVER..specially if Rondo or Marbury are in the game..don't you guys just hate when Rondo is in the game and Pierce brings it up, runs into some double teams, tries to spin out and gets a TO??Ughhh I hate that...

Good topic by the way...that's impressive..

I take it the 63-0 wasn't correct?

49-0 isn't nearly as impressive....just kidding. :)

The C's are simply unstoppable when they take care of the ball which is exactly what Doc preaches all the time.

Quite simple.....limit the opponents attempts at the basket.....better chance of winning.

I bet you'd come up with similiar records for other teams using the less than 11 TO benchmark as well.

Thank you goes to Pierce who had 6 of our 17 turnovers against the Magic.

sometimes I think this kind of stats are stupid.

Suns score 125 points and they are only 42-2.

Or if you shoot more than 65%, you win.

Is this a secret to you?

Not the same at all. There's a specific point to this thread -- the Celtics have the league's 3rd worst TO rate at 15.82. Only OK and the Suns are worse. It' something they should drastically improve on. I can't recall a championship team averaging so many turnovers in recent memory. When they cut down on their turnovers they usually win (they only have 3 losses at 12 TO's and under)

7seventynine9, teams obviously get more wins and less losses when they turn the ball over less. But undefeated at 11 and under is pretty damn rare.

TA42, yes, my bad - I added 49 and 14, rather than just leave the 14 alone (a loss is a loss - no "what if's"...) I guess that's why I chose music over math as a profession.

Bill Walton once said the great John Wooden use to say the team who has more TO's is the team that usually wins, and he's considered one of the greatest ever... :D

Well they were pretty bad at turning it over last year and this year it's worse. If you think of all the points other teams get off of our turnovers, that's probably another 6-8 wins for us if we had taken better care of the ball...
