Man, this guy just must be a severe knucklehead. I know he had issues in college (stolen 'puters), but he's since been dumped by Jersey (though they got a future first for him), and now just flat out being let go by GS.

He really has a lot of talent as a natural PG, too. Interesting stuff, a guy that young and with talent being cut.

What is Danny thinking going after Rajon Rondo instead? Rondo can't shoot!! Marcus Williams can come in and be the team's point guard right away and be here for 15 years.

I'd rather have him than Marbury....

Yeah, I remember when people wanted to run Danny Ainge out of town because he passed on Marcus Williams and took Rajon Rondo instead. Good thing Danny Ainge is not a RealGM poster.

I don't know a great passing PG that couldn't work in Don Nelson's system pretty much could sum up his career. I'll admit on draft day I was all for taking Marcus Williams #7 prior to the Telfair trade. I definately missed on that one

Glad to say I wasn't a big fan (I wasn't really hoping for Rajon either to be fair, the shooting problems and issues he had with his coach in college scared me also), the lack of athleticism scared me. But I never thought he'd be this bad... maybe a team will take a flyer on him and he'll find a niche somewhere. I was on the (maybe the only one on the) Ronnie Brewer bandwagon, he's turned into a decent player but I'm happy as hell about the way things turned out. Trust in Danny.

Dude is slow and rather unathletic, not a great thing as a pg.

All this means is that he didn't "fit" the system of an extremely eccentric coach. Nelson never even gave him an opportunity in a real game situation.

I would be shocked if he doesn't get another chance somewhere.

I've seen him play quite well in NBA games. Sure, he's unathletic, but so was Mark Jackson.

That said, methinks he's a severe knucklehead, but he'll definitely have other chances in the NBA. Somebody that's out of the playoff picture might even give him a look before this season is out.

If he keeps a positive attitude about his NBA career, thus far. And continues to improve his game. Perhaps, eventually, he'll end up in the right situation and (maybe) have a Billups-like story.

I thought the same thing about him when I posted about him being slow and nonathletic and realized first he is no Mark Jackson. Second I don't know how good Jackson would be in today's perimeter oriented game. He was a half court post up player I don't know how effective his style of ball would be with today's defensive rules.

Williams can handle the ball and hit the 3 so he might get another chance but is terrible defender and doesn't run the floor. If he can't even get on the floor in GS I think he might be finished.

I hear you, what a moron I was. Although I didn't want Danny out of town. But I sure wanted Williams over Rondo. I thought Rondo was garbage when we drafted him. So yes it's a great thing I'm not the GM of the Celtics.

He doesn't *run* well but he's a phenomenal passer in transition. And he's pretty strong so he can body up smaller PGs, a la Jackson (I'm not sure I agree that the game's so different today that Jackson wouldnt be a good PG).

He's not a good defender, that's true.

He wasn't bad for the Nets. Obviously he showed enough that GS gave up a 1st round pick. Believe me, there are some GS fans who are ticked off that Nellie never even game him a chance considering he was probably their only true PG.

As for the knucklehead stuff, while I'm not dismissing the laptop thing (which was awful), that is literally the only complaint anyone has ever had with him. He's kind of droopy-looking, which may make it seem like he's got an attitude problem, but there was never any issue with that at UConn. Or with New Jersey. Or with Golden State; Nellie had very nice things to say about him personally. So I really don't think it's attitude or whatever. Nellie didn't think he could do well in a transition offense (which Sully agrees with). I think it's strange to conclude that without ever trying it. At UConn, he flourished in transition. Upon grabbing a rebound, his first reaction would be to start a fastbreak. Often, he'd trigger one by throwing an outlet. He threw some sick halfcourt alleyoops to Rudy Gay and other Huskies in transition.

UConn produces very few busts. If Kevin Ollie has a place in this league then I'll be d@mned if Williams doesn't.

But then again, I'm a biased Husky fan.

Golden State is kind of ridiculous. Why trade a 1st round pick for a player and then just let them go?

Nellie plays an up tempo style and Williams is a half court slow down style of pg. Maybe GS thought he could also run the up tempo and have determined he can't.

He ran an uptempo style for years at UConn. He's definitely capable of it.

Who knows why he was in Nellie's doghouse, but the reality is he never got a chance in a real-game situation. No matter how bad he was in practice, some players are just better in games. It's a shame he never got that shot.

That being said, someone will pick him up. If he's in shape, he'll get a shot before the end of the season.

Williams is a solid passer, but he's far more flash than substance. A lot of the time he gets himself in trouble trying to a force a pass, and the result has been him being a turnover prone PG in the pros. Combined with his inability to score at anything even approaching efficiency, or defend at all, and he's been far from a productive NBA player. I liked him some coming out of college and wouldn't have minded if we drafted him, but his game should have raised a lot of red flags in terms of his ability to transition to the pros.

And to the Ronnie Brewer fan, I was right there with you. Rondo/Brewer/and erm, Saer Sene were on my draft wish list that year.

If the suns are going to miss on the playoffs and it looks like they will, they should sign him and see if he could learn from steve nash.
