BOS/ORL - Eastern 2nd seed tracking thread!

With all the injuries and 3 more loses than Cleveland and LA Lakers it is time to protect the 2nd seed in East. First that would mean to avoid one of (Atlanta, Miami, Detroit) as the potential 6th seed and also have home court advantage to probably Orlando in 2nd round:

Standings on Sunday 5.4.

BOS 58:19 (0RL 2:2)
ORL 57:19 (BOS 2:2)

Home Vs. away games / Last games

BOS 3:2 / Njn,Mia,@Cle,@Phi,Was
ORL 3:3 / @Hou,Mem,Ny,@Njn,@Mil,Cha

Now lets look the quality of the opponent teams. That is why I will divide teams in 2 groups:

- Good teams: Top 9 Western teams + top 7 Eastern teams(Bos,Orl,Cle,Atl,Mia,Det,Phi)
- Average teams: Other 15 teams

Home games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 2:1 Njn,Was / MIA
ORL 3:0 Mem,Ny,Cha /

Away games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 0:2 0 / CLE,PHI
ORL 2:1 Njn,Mil / HOU

Games against average teams Vs. good teams:

BOS 2:3
ORL 5:1

Looks like it will be a close race till the end of the season. Crucial game is away game at Orlando, wining the game would mean double-Orlando would be one behind and also Boston would have won the tiebreaker.

I'm more worried about who we'd face in the first round than losing home court to the Magic. The difference between the two seeds can mean facing a good team gaining momentum like Atlanta, Detroit, or Miami and facing a poorer team falling out of contention like Philly or one of the teams battling for the eight seed that might sneak up to seven. I wouldn't be too worried about losing the series, but more worried about tiring the team out and blowing momentum like we did last year in Atlanta.

Orlando also reminds me of a better version of our Celtics in the Obie ball days. They live or die by the three, but also have a consistent threat in Howard to keep them in games. Home court doesn't matter as much as whether they're hot or not and if they can keep it up over a seven game series.

yeah the concern isnt necessarily the magic themselves, but playing the pistons will take a toll on our players, een though i dont think they would be a huge challenge we would have to then go through orlando after a tough series, then through a tougher one in cleveland... before even getting to the finals

the number 2 seed is very important for preserving a good first round match up for us

Agreed. As crazy as it sounds, this Memphis game tonight is pretty big since it is winnable no matter who is out (of KG, Baby, Rondo, Scal, TA, etc.). Get to the weekend and hopefully the fellas start to heal up and trickle back into the lineup...

Regardless of whether Orlando catches us, they are still a pretender...they have no shot...

Thanks you for speaking the truth..thank you for not being in denial like most other nba fans..because that doesn't go only for Orlando(Which are a really good team btw)..it goes for the league..when we get Kg and Rondo, and the rest of the guys, NOBODY will be catching us..bet that..

It really doesnt look good for 2nd seed. Orlando has a lot easier schedule till the end of the season:

Home games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 5:3 Lac,Okl,Cha,Njn,Was / MIA,ATL,MIA
ORL 6:2 Ny,Mil,Tor,Mem,Ny,Cha / BOS,CLE

Away games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 2:5 Chi,Mem / SAS,ORL,ATL,CLE,PHI
ORL 4:4 Mil,Ny,Njn,Mil / CLE,MIA,ATL,HOU

A win in Orlando next wednesday is a must win, but even then it will be very hard. I still think Boston has the best team in East but a road of lets say Detroit, Orlando(no HC),Cleveland(no HC) would be very hard.

Magic fan here.

I do think we will pass you guys for #2 simply because you aren't healthy.

However, once you do get healthy (playoffs), I don't think anyone will beat you. I fully expect Boston to repeat.

Next year, though, watch out :)

Well Orlando lost in Cleveland, but was very close to winning it. One 3pt by lebron, 3 second violation 30 sec to go on Orlando and a fade way foul on Lebron...Cle is winning all close games in last 14 days.
We fought a big battle against Chicago yesterday and Im proud of the team...again we had Allens 3pt but he just can make those in last 2.

If you look all the following statistics I think we will lose the 2nd seed, all the numbers are in Orlando favor. I hope we get 2 big man back as soon as possible.

Home games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 5:3 Lac,Okl,Cha,Njn,Was / MIA,ATL,MIA
ORL 6:2 Ny,Mil,Tor,Mem,Ny,Cha / BOS,CLE

Away games against average teams Vs. good teams

BOS 1:5 Mem / SAS,ORL,ATL,CLE,PHI
ORL 4:3 Mil,Ny,Njn,Mil / MIA,ATL,HOU

Games against average teams Vs. good teams:

BOS 6:8
ORL 10:5

Well, now you read that Garnett possibly won't return this weekend and that Ray got hurt last night. While House sounds like he's still favoring his slight injury.

I don't know, is it me or does it seem as if the referees are calling personal fouls readily on Boston knowing that their roster is depleted. I mean it seems like Celtic players are walking on egg shells of fear of fouling out or getting in foul trouble to where they've to sit. It affects Rivers' coaching and how you defend as a team.

No, this was in full evidence last night in Chicago...5 fouls on Perk midway through the 3rd was ridiculous, especially because a couple of them were those bogus "moving screen" fouls he gets picked on for by every ref...

Uff...escaped with a win yesterday over Miami and the way we played Im very disappointed. Orlando with easy win over MIlwaukee, they sure look solid.
In next 2 away games I think it is better Garnet returns in Memphis, because we must win in Memphis and San Antonio will be hard with or without Garnet.

Also one notice, I looked over the schedules and it looks like Chicago could finish 7th and catch Detroit. I would love that scenario and that Cleveland(1) would face Detroit(8) in the first round.
Out of all 1 round opponents I think Philadelphia is the best option for us.
