The ugly reality, my friends.

We all should prepare and be ready. What am I talking about ? In a few years, PP, KG and RA won't walk though that door. The big 3 have already shown us that their game is not the same as it used to be years ago. After all, they are all 30+ years old. After they leave, this will leave us nothing but another few years of being a bad .500 or even bellow team. This really makes me sad because I really enjoyed this ride these two years...when we got KG and Ray Allen then the European tour and all that.

Let me remind you....
When Danny took over he had 1 asset: Paul Pierce. He had 2 other max salary contracts in Walker and Baker that were albatrosses. He ended up trading Walker for LaFrenz that ended up hamstringing him further. He also had big contracts tied up in Eric Williams, Tony Battie and no young talent that ever amounted to anything. Things couldn't look worse. 4 years later..... Wow!
So to think that he can't turn things around faster with a near perfect situation..... I just don't understand the pessimism.
First off: Allen expires next year and Pierce the following year. The most important of the big 3 - even if not the best - is locked up for awhile and that is KG. Second: Young talent in Rondo and Perkins. Powe, Big Baby, Giddens, Gabe and Walker may not amount to much but they are all getting primo experience and a few of them could very easily be guys like Rick Fox who provided leadership and solid reserve play for a champion. Certainly all are better than the similar reserves that saddled the team Ainge took over.
With 2 expiring contracts to trade Ainge could do a lot with this team. And he may need to do nothing. Seriously. If Pierce and/or Allen re-up for MLE caliber deals or fair contracts for their talent when their current deals expire they can be valuable chips on a team without tying up the entire cap.
This could be a dynasty with a little luck. Remember, as bad as it was in the dark days of ML Carr, Pitino, Jim O'Brien, and pre-KG Doc.... there were players on our doorstep that could have been had that we missed out on..... Shaun Marion, Bruce Bowen, Ben Wallace, Joe Johnson, Richard Jefferson, Gilbert Arenas, David West, Kevin Martin, Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay etc. and guys that Ainge did pounce on like Al Jefferson and Delonte West and Perkins......
There is talent coming down the pike that Ainge can get at either end of the draft that combined with Rondo, Perkins, an aging KG and Pierce or Allen that could turn this into a dynasty. Expiring deals can bring future #1 picks and Ainge can turn those into gold. Especially now that he is seasoned and less likely to get burned by other GM's.

Yeah...we lost game 7 to Cleveland yesterday...153-65...biggest blowout ever in game 7..Danny will blow the team up in 2 weeks...and it's all Marbury's fault

No, you mean it's Ray Allen's fault, right?

I see the team in at least conference finals in next 3-4 years...just like Detroit was in last 6 years.
We have a great team, no bad contracts, young players with potential
We will be in finals in next 3 years, hopefully wining number 18.

You really need to see a doctor! You have been infected with Joebiscuitism...
You think Danny will just sit ob his hands and do nothing in the next few years? I really don`t get some of you people...

Wow. It's a good thing somebody told me about this. Now I can save my time by not having to watch the rest of the playoffs, and next season for that matter. To the OP - do you have some sort of mailing list I can join, so when the Celts get a new Big 3, you can then email me and tell me to start watching games again? Thanks!!

OK, in a few years. I think most of us realize this fact. How about now?
DieselCeltic wrote:The big 3 have already shown us that their game is not the same as it used to be years ago. After all, they are all 30+ years old.
Together they are stronger than they ever were apart.
DieselCeltic wrote:After they leave, this will leave us nothing but another few years of being a bad .500 or even bellow team.
So basically the same position as over half the league right now? You are so obviously spoiled with this little bit of success. We were a bad .500 team or worse since the 80's.
DieselCeltic wrote:This really makes me sad because I really enjoyed this ride these two years...when we got KG and Ray Allen then the European tour and all that.
You mention the European tour but not something like the championship we won? Be happy you got to see a championship, because not too many teams' fans get to say they did. Plus, we have at least one more year of contending years with this group and up to three. We're an elite team now and we could be better the next couple of years depending on the luck we get with injuries and with the moves we make in the offseason.

I hope the Cavs try and steal away one of your young players this year. I hope they try and use their MLe to sign Big Baby or Powe and even if the Celtics do match then the contracts that the two players would be signed to would handicap the Celtics even further. No offense to you guys I love Ray Allen and am very glad that he got a championhsip, but I hate Pierce and KG. Both big old douchebags.

If this is an "ugly reality" what is a normal year? LMAO. The C's might not be a shoo in for a championship but they are certainly a contender. That's about all you can hope for being a fan.
Last year I thought we should have been the odds on favorite. This year without the best record and some injury issues its not so clear cut. But that kinda makes it more fun..

Maybe you should spend more time enjoying the ride then. There will be plenty of time to be depressed later... right now we are in the middle of it. This may be the best run the C's have Your Whole Life - ENJOY IT.

So, when the sun sets at night do you get all depressed and throw away your sun glasses and tanning lotion too?

Don't say that or he'll throw a hissy fit like he did in another thread last week...

I said something similar to this during the playoff run last year...I had never in my life seen more fans enjoying the ride LESS than during last year's playoffs on this forum...incredible. This season it didn't even take until the playoffs to get to that point...sad...

This ride that the Celtics are on could last another 4-5 years after this year provided the Celtics can keep the core (Big 3, Perk & Rondo) together. The key will be signing the core (Big 3, Perk & Rondo) to reasonable extensions while adding talent to the mix.
Right now the Big 3 make up about $55 million of the Celtics payroll. If the Celtics could extend them out 2-3 years and have them at about $30-$35 million of the payroll then that would be enough to sign Rondo, Perk etc. and add significant talent to keep the train rolling. The decision is up to the Big 3 as to what is more important. Is it money or is it another 4-5 years of being a championship contender and retiring Celtics? No one knows the answer.
I would think that Danny Ainge would like to know this answer as soon as possible because it would provide certainty. For example if you could resign Garnett (12.5 million per), Pierce (11 million per) and Ray Allen ( 9 million per) then it would be easier for the Celtics to sign someone to the MLE next season or trade expirings (House, TA, Scal etc) for a player who has a 3-5 year deal.
I fully expect Ainge to talk extensions with KG, Pierce, Ray and Rondo this off season and depending on their answers then Ainge will act accordingly.
This teams has the potential to be around another 4-5 years. IMO.

^Sweet! I know I always prefer seeing which lottery pick we get over competing for a title in the playoffs!
