De'Sean Butler interest???

So I was listening to Doc Rivers talk on WEEI this morning. He had mentioned that he likes to watch college games with a pad to take notes. Then go to Danny and talk about guys he likes and see what Danny thinks of them. Then he mentioned watching the recent Big East tournament and liking one on the guys. He said he could not remember the name but it was in a West Virginia game. So when talking with Danny, Danny then said he was his "favorite kid" (I'm guess more in the undervalued gem type of player). Just going through the WV roster I'm thinking they were talking about De'Sean Butler. Thats just a guess. But if he comes out that might be someone to keep in eye on in the second round.

He said he played in the West Virginia game but he didn't necessarily say he played for West Virginia, right?
I don't know about Butler. Sure, he scores, rebounds and can stroke the three a smidge, but he isn't a playmaker (.78 A/TO), isn't very active off the ball on defense (1.90 St+Bl/40) and has trouble converting two point shots (.468 2PT%.)
While those numbers would be somewhat respectable for a SF prospect already in the NBA, he should be dominating in those aspects at the NCAA, imo.
Contrarily, Alex Ruoff and Devin Ebanks are much better prospects, imo.
Do you have a link to the quote?

Correct. It could have been a WV opponent, sorry don't have the link I was just listening to the stream this morning while at work. Just a guess on my part. NBA Draft Express lists him going in the late first in next years draft, so I that's why I thought they might be talking about Butler.

Any other possible celtics I should look out for in the tournament? I don't watch college ball the rest of the year.

wish the C's would buy a late first rounder and pick up Patty Mills... dude is goin places
Its hard to scout this year for the Celtics, realistically we only have the 3rd to last pick, but then Danny isnt shy about trading to get the guy he wants as we saw with Walker this time

im sure there will be plenty of teams selling first rounders come draft time. Danny loves the draft,Im sure he will get a first rounder somehow.

I luv Patty Mills....he cut up the redeam team in the olympics and a exhibition game before hand....he made CP3 look like a dunce on defence a few times even...but alas...he is undersized, not a great outside shooter...but is quick. He wouldn't fit at the Celtics....he is like Rondo light....not quite as quick....doesn't have the potential in my opinion to play lock down defense....he will be a good pg in the league perhaps....but we need a solidly built back up PG...eg in the Marbury mould.
If you want an Australian on the roster though....look at Andrew Ogilv....not sure if he is in the next draft??? But he is 7ft....good down low with both hands and can rebound....will be a 2nd rounder....and a good back up to a guy like perk....IMO

Well you probably don't spend much time in the Draft forum, but Cammo has Tyrese Rice as a guy that will be around late in the draft. Local guy would be great as a replacement to Eddie eventually. (if Gabe doesn't work out which looks like will be the end result as of right now)

Ogilvy will go in the first round
Patty's outside shooting is coming along ok, but his D has been solid.. hes not that strong but his quickness allows him to stay infront of absolutely anyone... and even go help for a double team, then get back to his player by the time the ball gets passed back there, hes a freak.
I think you will find he is actually quicker than Rondo, and will be close to the quickest guy in the league from day one

Devin Ebanks maybe?
He seems like an Aingeish pick with the freak athleticism. He's also been tearing it up recently which would explain Doc's comments

LIke I said, I like Patty a heap. I dont follow college ball at all......whats the standard of the league st marys plays in? Comparable to the one rondo was in? Where do you think he will go in th draft?

His confrence does not compare well with the SEC normally.
I would assume he'd be a mid to late first rounder as of right now, but his injury this year might make his stock fall. He has a big game against Stephon Curry that I'm sure will play a huge factor in his draft status and whether or not he enters this year or returns to school.

yeh the WCC isnt a strong conference, but you can only play who you are put up against and they had a great record with him on the team... will be a late first rounder with the injury i would think, but after the olympics showing there shouldnt be any way he'd slip into the second
next game against Curry in the NIT will be a good test, and although its not in the NCAA tourny should have a few scouts watching
Hes some Barbosa/Parker type hybrid and would be great for an already established team to pick up and develop, much like the Celtics could
anyway this is all a little OT, i didnt really see enough of the Big East this season to know who Doc and Ainge would be talking about... but i trust that if they get another pick in the draft it will be a good one

Ainge is probably referring to Devin Ebanks. He is a 6'9 freshman that was a 5 star recruit. He first signed with Indiana before the Sampson problems. He has a tremendous BBal IQ for such a young man. He even had to play some point guard this year. Very thin so he needs some more time in weight room. Butler is talented, but not like Ebanks. Butler did have 43 this year against Nova. I dont anticipate either one of these players leaving early though. Ebanks did lead the Eers in rebouding at only 215 pounds.
