We all know the famous nicknames of the NBA stars be it "The Mailman", "The Round Mound of Rebound", "The Human Highlight Reel", "King James", "CB4" or "Mamba" but what about those guys sitting at the end of the bench, those lesser known guys? Do those guys have nicknames? Or do those local commentators create ridiculous handles for their team's players? I did some research and got an overwhelming response on the lesser known nicks of the league.Let`s start off with the Raptors:

Actually, that article is just bad. Or no celtic fan entered any in. Celtics have some of the most used nick-names in the NBA.

The Truth
The Big Ticket
Jesus Shuttlesworth
Big Baby
Starbury
Veal
Sky Walker

Rondo has also been known as ET from earlier in his career because of his abnormally long fingers. I think that nickname completely died out when Sam came last year

Ha, yeah. I remember trolls last year making fun of the team because of the Alien PG's. Basically grasping for straws.

"Doc" Rivers

Haha yes I remember that.

Man, in hindsight, I wish we could have replaced Rondo and our World Championship with a more normal looking point guard

Anyone else remember with fondness the time when only exceptional players had nicknames?

This trend of horrible announcers coming up with stupid nicknames for every marginal player is not a good one IMO.

Tony "Clownshoes" Allen (aka Monsieur Tres Dribbles)
Kendrick "Perk is a Beast" Perkins (aka Perkules, Perk and Beast Boy 3000)
Brian "Lord Gingerballsian Firecrotch, III" Scalabrine
Dave "Why noone remembers Loscy?" From NB
Eddie "Because 'Me llamo El Eduardo del Fuego. Tengo todos sus cestas!' takes too long to say when you are the fastest shooter in the NBA" House
Glen "Anyone who doesn't see through my bull is either supremely naive or blind" Davis
Stephon "Get caught up in life" Marbury
Mikki "Minni" Moore
Ray "I dribble worse than Mark Blount and possess the decision-making of Jiri Welsch but because I can shoot really well most people give me a free pass when I consistently **** up. Oh yeah, defense doesn't matter so long as you score." Allen (aka the Anti-Christ, Jesus Cuttlefish, Jesus Shuttlecock, Jesus sucks a .... you get the point)

Non-Celtics:

"The" Al Jefferson (aka Fool's Gold, Pyrite, 'efense Jefferson, etc)
Ryan "I performed badly and they sat me but I don't want to take ownership of my sucking so I am going to say the team is tanking" Gomes (aka You can't run from suck, Most overrated 2nd RD'er ever, etc)
Wally "Rah Rah" Szczerbiak (aka Wally Ballgame, Fake Hustler Extraordinare, Wally Zoolander, etc)
Kobe "Double O-Rapist" Bryant (aka The Locksmith, Slim Jim, etc because of his ability to force open a backdoor.)
Lebron "Queen Crab" James (aka Princess James, Stern's Do-Boy)
Dwight "Paper Tiger" Howard

My friends and I usually just say whatever comes to mind. Sometimes they stick and sometimes they don't.

I find it sad that every Walker becomes a Sky Walker, though. Additionally, Kobe called himself Mamba. Anyone who repeats a nickname that a person gives himself is a tool. He called himself a black snake. Lolz at all the little white boys running around cheering on Kobe's one-eyed, hooded, spitting mischief-maker.

Just stop. Most of those aren't nicknames, they are one or two sentence trashing of the player. I think you completely missed the point. Also - comparing Ray Allen to Jiri Welsch. Wow. Just Wow.

You DO realize without Ray Allen last year, we wouldn'tve won the title? And we wouldn't be where we are right now this year w/o him...I can understand not being fond of a guy on your fav team, but to hate on him like this is unreal. get over it.

No.

I agree Chris Berman took things to a new level by assigning a nickname to EVERYBODY he talked about. But players of all quality have always had nicknames, especially in baseball.

E.g., here is a brief list of nicknames just of LA Dodgers:

B. Mudcat - Jim Grant
C. Sweet Lou - Lou Johnson
D. Penguin - Ron Cey
E. Frenchy - Jim Lefebvre
F. Big D - Don Drysdale
G. Little d - Don Sutton

Only two Hall of Famers on that list ...
