the play of Big Baby lately...

This guy has been Fantastic since getting more minutes (bright side to the KG injury)---He has WAY more confidence in his all around game---and he's also WAY more aggressive offensively....I'm loving it.
Teams cannot ignore him anymore....Once teams realize this and actually try to guard him-his terrific passing skills will be more evident....Can only help come playoff time.

The combo of Leon/Baby/Moore--should be more than enough to slap down that POS Varejao.

Impressive -- and a credit to the coaches.

He wouldn't be doing it now if they hadn't pushed him to try all those shots he bricked earlier in the season. And generally he's just another data point for the theory that we have excellent big-man coaching. Has there been a young big man under Clifford Ray who HASN'T progressed well, POB aside?

the biggest advantage of baby's jumper is that now guys have to decide whether they want to leave him or not. You make the wrong decision and rondo or steph or paul or kg get a layup

I love Big Baby's game. He has a unique set of skills for a little big man. I agree with Max that his passing skills will be more evident when teams start to pay attention to him.

Even I, #1 BBD hater, have to admit he's been playing better. That move in the post (the one where he got his own rebound) over the weekend was pathetic, though...if he could jump it would have gone in the 1st time. I was shocked, *SHOCKED*, with that dunk he had, though...couldn't believe he got up for that!

I was down on him early this season but he has played incredibly recently. That shot in SA was great.

It's utterly ridiculous and humorous that ONE DUNK by Davis will open the eyes of even the most persistent haters *cough* insatiable... while consistent execution of picks, screens, defensive rotations, shot selection, offensive development, etc. go completely unnoticed or ignored. Just goes to show you what the casual fan with an untrained eye will MISS when watching a game or scanning statistics.

Davis has been developing quite nicely since he came into the league. At the beginning of the season he was just BEGINNING the process of developing his perimeter game as a pro ball player. The results were poor but he clearly had the support of the team and coaches. That support indicated to me, that he was COMPETENT with the jumpshot in practice. He had the ability. Now he's producing.

I for one, am not suprised in the least with Davis' production. I just hope that he's able to sustain this level of play throughout the remainder of the season and postseason.

Haters, where are you at now?

^Well, still, one shot doesn't make him a great player...let's not re-visit "PJ Brown syndrome"

He has been great lately. I hope both Davis and Powe sign for $3 million with 10% raises. Ideally you'd have a taller frontcourt but when the two are playing as well as they have at times this season the bench has looked very good. I'd love to see both remain Celtics their entire careers.

I didn't say all of a sudden I'm a Davis fan...my surprise at that dunk wasn't because I thought it was awesome...I couldn't believe he could actually get up that high to do it!

I'm glad he's (finally) playing pretty well...it helps the C's. I still hope he's gone after this season, though...I'm no Davis fan, regardless of his play of late...don't ever accuse me of that again! 8-)

I love how people are surprised that BBD can dunk. They must have not watched all the games, because he had a dunk or two last year as a rookie. He was even dunking at LSU when he was 300 lbs, which shows his athleticism for a big guy, athleticism people try to claim he doesn't have.

Dude, he's 6'8", of course he can dunk. My shock is that he had enough lift to go OVER someone to do it. This is a guy who gets stuffed by PGs in the post sometimes...

I get it, I'm in the minority here who isn't a BBD fanboy and doesn't like his game, that's fine, I can totally acknowledge he's been playing much better lately. But y'all sometimes act like he's an athletic freak or something when clearly he is not and his limitations outnumber his strengths (in my opinion)...

Trust me, insatiable, I know that you're no fan of Davis. But it's just funny to me that you persist in your negative stance on Davis, along with a few other haters, simply because you've said so many things negatively against him in recent memory. He's proven almost every hater wrong at this point. There are plenty of people, like yourself, who said that he's fat or unathletic. Well it's clear that those people including yourself, were WRONG. Some people said that his shot was trash and that he had no offensive game. Those people including yourself, were WRONG. There were plenty of people who said that Davis didn't stack up to Leon Powe, that it was all Leon and that Davis was really a D-Leaguer. Again, those people were WRONG. The only questions now are how much will Davis progress, will he continue to perform at a high level as a role player, and will he continue to work hard after he gets his contract. Those are all questions left to be answered. But I think that for the present time. Davis has answered many of the questions about his ABILITY and he's proven that he's capable.

For my money, I see Davis continuing to progress and grow into a consistent and valuable role player here in Boston. Based on he accuracy of my evaluation of Davis TO THIS POINT, I'd say it's a heck of a lot more likely that I'm correct in that assessment than you and the other haters are in yours.

His only physical limitation, relative to his sheer mass and strength, is his lack of a "vertical" game as Bill Russell refers to it. Laterally he's very, very solid; possessing quick feet and a tremendously strong base.

He does have short-ish arms and he's clearly not a great leaper. But to a certain extent he covers for that with smarts and solid lateral movement. He'll never lead the league in blocks or rebounds but he'll always possess the ability to box out, carve out space on both ends, and play solid positional offense/defense.

Now, in a player like Larry Bird, someone who was clearly not the most gifted athlete, people valued his ability to compensate for his lack of athleticism with tremendous BBIQ. Davis has an ounce or two of that same quality. He's a smart player, that's why the coaching staff tends to favor Davis over Powe. Not to say that Powe doesn't have a solid BBIQ, he does (his weakness is more a lack of vision and creativity, not necessarily BBIQ). And it's that BBIQ and intelligence about Davis that will serve him well in overcoming his physical limitations as well as finding his "niche" in the NBA. He's already made pretty substantial gains in that direction as far as I'm concerned.

Dude, did you just compare BBD to Larry? :o

I know you weren't saying he's as good as Larry, but still...

Is that accurate? He looks more like 6'6'' to me. I know it's only a matter of a few inches but he looks so short sometimes when he's standing near the 7-footers.

More then anything, I want to see the 2nd unit with a healthy Powe with Davis and House and Star. Mix in Moore/Walker/Allen/Scal and we have a bad ass bench. 8-)

Pierce is 6'6"....I'll have to pay attention the next time they stand next to each other. I coulda sworn BBD was 6'8"...

Let me check somewhere for his height...
