Doc Rivers said Tony Allen may be closer to returning to the floor than Leon Powe.
With the caveat “I don’t think any of them are going to play any time soon,” Rivers said that Allen has been able to keep in shape during his down time because of the nature of his injury, and that apparently gives him a leg up on Powe and Brian Scalabrine (concussion symptoms).

Brian Scalabrine (post concussion syndrome), Tony Allen (thumb) and Leon Powe (knee) all continue to recover with little variation in their schedules. Scalabrine’s situation is particularly troubling.

“Scal is doing bike work and lifting,” Rivers said. “But there’s no running on the floor for him. That’s a tough one, because with conditioning, at least Tony can work on that every day. But Scal doesn’t have that benefit.”




It seems to be conflicting stories on Powe....I wonder if his recovery will be delayed or not.

after watching Mikki play last night, if we don't get Scals and Leon back at 110%, we're gonna be hurting, big time, to get to the East Finals

Mikki is painful to watch we need Leon back. Does Mikki know he doesn't have to foul everytime down the court? Someone should tell him that.

I honestly could care less about T.A. I want Powe and Scal. T.A will retire soon.

I don't see how the Cs can get out of the East without a healthy Leon Powe. The drop-off from Leon to Mikki Moore is enormous.

I like Tony Allen more than most; but he takes weeks to get back in the swing of things and lots of minutes on the floor. That is a luxury we do not have, unless he can play gonzo minutes in the final five games of the season. Still might not be enough.

I think they can still get out of the East. But it will require Mikki to play better than he did last night. He doesn't have to be great, but he needs to knock down his shots and rebound the darn ball! He has had a few good games. If he can get that back we're good. But if not, your're right, we'd be in trouble.

we need Leon. I never saw the play where he was injured so when I heard "sprained knee" I figured it might be a week or two. Now it sounds more serious. As for Scal I figured he was out for the year when he got that 3rd concussion so I'd be shocked if he plays this year and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after this season.The injuries are killing us and if we don't win it again this year it's going to be because of injuries. When healthy I think we're hte best team in the NBA. Had Danny kept Posey we would be in much better shape because he easily could cover for tony and scal.

God, I can't believe Posey's name is still coming up in discussion around here. This team can win with Mikki Moore if KG, Perk and Davis are all healthy throughout the playoffs. My thinking is the Scal will come back this season... if he wasn't why wouldn't the Celtics go for a health waiver so they could sign some front court depth?

Now, like many others, I basically despise Moore's game. But if everyone else is healthy we're talking about two 4-5 minute stretches in each game that he'll have to play. If he has to play more than that there are either injuries, foul trouble, or he's playing well. It sucks that he might be the guy we turn to in case of injury or foul trouble but I think that the team can cover for him while he's in there as long as its in short spurts.

I am a pretty big Tony fan but besides a level of trust from Doc what exactly does he do that they don't get from Bill Walker? Obviously the kid is raw as hell and is going to make some mistakes and is going to have some highlight real plays and he is a tough SOB, and Tony is what exactly?

I think Scal's ability to knock down that corner 3 is pretty vital and he is capable of making some cute plays that can really help when every possession matters, which is all we are really missing from Posey.

Leon can be a beast when the situation allows, but he probably has to be 100%. I don't think we need both him and Scal back to get out of the East but probably to get by LAL we will as they have a lot of depth and different matchups.

I want to believe he is going to get better and keep telling myself how bad PJ Brown looked in his run here during the regular season but Mikki Moore pretty much sucks. I think the under over on MIkki is about 5 mins in a close game, if we need him for more than 5 we are in trouble.

^Good points Sully. I think Moore is playing more (no pun intended) than he should due to the injuries. Hopefully when we are close to full strength he'll resume his place as the 10th+ guy off the bench. Agree on Tony, too...Bill Walker should get his minutes and bring Tony off the bench later than Bill...it makes us a little deeper and keeps Tony's stupid mistakes off the court longer!

I've been rooting hard for Mikki and part of me still has a tiny ammount of hope but he's so damn thin and just feels the need to jump at the defender when they are going up for a shot. He's been really bad defensively. I'm hoping KG can help him

Tony Allen Syndrome

Well Sully, I'd say that Tony is basically a more aggressive and confident offensive player at this point. Bill has more to his game than he's currently showing but I don't think that the coaching staff is comfortable with Bill exploring his whole offensive game right now. Tony can be a legit scoring option off the bench. Much like Leon he can score in bunches and gets to the foul line a ton. But like Leon Tony really shouldn't be creating too much for himself, at least not outside of 10-15 from the basket. As Marbury and second unit gets a better rhythm and continuity together I could see Tony being a real offensive threat, relieving pressure from Pierce and Ray to provide all the wing scoring. With Walker you get a guy who will defer and not make mistakes but with Tony you get a guy who'll score efficiently and draw a lot of fouls on the opponents.

Of course all of this depends on Tony getting healthy and confident and building that chemistry with Marbury in a very limited window. But under the best case scenario I could easily see Tony being a difference maker for this team. I feel that every time Tony has been able to just focus on doing the things he's competent at he's been successful.

Alot of Tony Allen hate going on over here..why is that? Dude brings us good defense...we can really use him to guard the Kobe's and LeBron's of the league when PP gets a breather...if not him then I don't see who does that...Ray? Marbury?Billy?? Or play PP for 48 minutes? Tony will be big for this team in the playoffs...he just needs to stop TO's...

^The hate for Tony comes from the fact that after his stretches of good play, he'll have longer stretches of really....BAD....play...dumb decisions, defensive breakdowns, poor shot selection. The guy has loads of talent but one of the lowest BBIQs in the league...

Tony Allen is our best defender. He's great to put on a guy like James or Bryant to just wear them down. He's a great role player. Bone head from time to time it is true.

Tony expects to practice on April 5th, so he should be able to play in the last 5 games.

It's laughable the amount of hate that TA gets considering how he outplays almost the rest of the bench. It likely springs from his high turnover rate. For example take fan favorite BBD.

TA just DESTROYS BBD overall. Not only is he more productive on the court but he holds his guy to an incredible 9.9 PER. He scores more efficently then Davis. He blocks shots better then Davis. He gets more assists then the 'smart' Davis.

About the only Davis does better is rebound and turn the ball over less but Davis is not particularly good at either of those things. By almost every other metric TA is a a far superior player. Yet TA gets all this hate. No one wants hit to return. It's just ridiculous. And I skipped steals..one of TA's best abilities.

I will be happy when TA gets back. He can really help this team. Marbury is too short to play the 3.
