On his off day in Manhattan, there was no need to pull teeth to get the former Knicks point guard to gush about his basketball rebirth in Boston. "It's been the greatest experience I've ever had, playing with a group of guys, everyone with one thing in mind: winning a championship," Marbury told The Post. "They don't care about anything else. All the guys understand that feeling, because they just had it [an NBA championship]. I want the same feeling, too. When you win a championship, it's like a drug. You're on a high. Marbury said that, after being dissed by D'Antoni, Rivers has been a godsend. "He's unbelievable, breathtaking, he's a real man," Marbury said. "He tells you right in the face as soon as it happens. There ain't no bull." Marbury also tweaked D'Antoni's lack of priority on defense. "Night and day," Marbury said of the emphasis on defense between the coaching staffs. "When you preach defense - and you look it up, preach means delivering a message - that's what you perform up to. When you preach defense, [it] wins championships. You don't even think about it. Marbury knows he could've at least made starting point guard Chris Duhon's transition to New York smoother. Duhon's first season in New York has been a bust, with coach Mike D'Antoni admitting he burned out Duhon after deciding to sit Marbury after preseason. "If I was playing with him, I would've helped him out tremendously, and I was willing to do that," Marbury said. "I just wanted to play. I hated watching. I worked hard for seven months, then [D'Antoni] shut me down. It wasn't to be. I can't complain, because it worked out for the best. I'm playing 17 minutes. I was playing no minutes." New York Post

"I feel bad as a Knick fan," said Marbury, who agreed to a buyout Feb. 24 after not playing a single game this season. "I'm still a Knick fan. I love New York. I did it the best way I knew. Maybe it wasn't the best way people wanted me to do it, but I did it wanting to win." New York Post

Ironic that he talks about winning, but wasn't willing to do what it took. He never bothered to listen to his coaches. Just play the way he wanted to play, screw the team.

I always had the same impression but he has played really hard on D here and been almost too unselfish, perhaps the NY situation was just too disfuntional to work. I suspect Isiah's black thumb of team management was just as much to blame as any of the players, Stephon included. Or perhaps it's just a contract year thing and Marbs'll be back to crazy next season, but he's been great on and off the court so far in Boston.

Cavs fan or not I agree 100%.

If Boston is so great and all he cared about was playing and winning, he could've agreed to a buy out months ago and played for us all season.

He is saying the right things now, but lets not forget he is playing for another contract too.

I like Marbury, am glad we got him, and am hoping for him to be a solid contributor in the playoffs, but you can't hate on a guy for questioning Marbury's desire to win. If he werent a celtic now and that poster werent a cavs fan... no one on this board would have batted an eye at someone questioning marbury's desire.

he has said and done all the right things since becoming a celtic, has not put a foot wrong at all

Marbury has frequent stretches of wanting to do the right thing. I hope this one endures longer than the others.

I'm actually pretty optimistic.

Anyone else really really really want Marbs to shoot more? He's got great feel for where the other guys like to receive the ball, but sometimes i wish he'd get his Cassell on and go for self once or twice.

I def. want Marbury to shoot more. I know what he's capable of. He's my fav. bench player, aside from Eddie House. I know he's going to have a game where he's going to take over, no doubt. It's coming soon. I'm expecting it.

If only Marbury pulled a stunt like this again.

I expect the reason it's working out for Marbury is contained in the following:

After dealing with Coach Ego (Larry Brown), Coach Idiot (Thomas) and Coach Media (D'Antoni), Marbury finally has a coach who can explain to him what is expected of him without making a circus of it.

I've never been a fan of Marbury the person, and I suppose I really just tolerate him as a Celtic because I want all Celtic players to do well. Perhaps he'll backslide, but in my books he's deserved a second chance with his actions and performance to date. So far so good, and I'm optimistic he'll keep it up for the forseeable future.

He has been great if you ask me.

Glad to hear he is enjoying his resurgence in Boston. I told him to get ready for the playoffs!!!!

If the price is reasonable i'd love to bring him back as Rondo's longterm back up and see him with a full training camp under his belt in our system. I know that he'll end up having some bumps in the road at some point but he could be key in getting the bench to be more consistent in the coming years as the big three need more and more help.

I don't want to over state it but he really could be the key to getting Bill Walker and Tony Allen to reach their potential because House isn't a good fit as a PG for their games and Pruitt just plain old isn't good enough.

Marbury has a real chance to change how people view his legacy in the next few years.

So Doc's a 'Real Man', just as Powe's a 'Grown Man'. I like it.

Actually, I'm a Knicks fan, so a Knicks post would be my concern. Marbury wouldn't listen to Larry Brown, and he has a ring. But I'm sure KG can keep him in line better in Boston. He's certainly not a leader, and has never shown the ability to focus on playing winning basketball in the past.
