fah cry eye stick with somethin would ya?

Delaware North Cos., owner and operator of Boston's TD Banknorth Garden, together with the venue's naming rights partner, TD Banknorth, announced today, the arena will be officially renamed "TD Garden" in July.

Here's an idea, stay with a name more than 2 years and people will remember it. Or, you can follow this model and remember the place as a beacon of crappy, local banks getting bought out by crappy, national banks.

This is actually an improvement. We're moving closer to just "Garden".

Fleet center ----> TD Banknorth Garden ----> TD Garden.

As a commenter on that article said, it'd be great if we had an arena football team.

And don't forget Shawmut Center cyclical, don't ever forget

I bet the people paying millions of dollars for right to name the place care.

That's a much better name. However, no matter what the mass calls it, I'm going to refer the home of 17 championships as the "Boston Garden".

Are you perhaps in denial that the naming rights are owned by a Canadian bank?

So....

Anyway, doesn't matter, I've always called it the garden. I will need to update my location though.

And I remember when it became the TD Banknorth Garden. I was thinking it's too long. The feeling of "WTF" and "huh" came to mind. But, I'm not one to judge here. If you pay for naming rights, then you've the liberty to name it as you please. You don't have to cater to the fans of that city. From a marketing standpoint it could be profitable to cater to fans. But, there's still no obligation by the owners of the name. It's their own personal decision in either case. That said, I'll like to see the fan who thumbs up his or her nose to an arena name and not purchase a ticket to a game if he's supposedly a die-heart fan or a season ticket holder. Fans won't attend for other reasons, not because they dislike a particular name. Because even after you'd read all that across the building. What did people do? They'd referred to it as just "The Garden." Or the FleetCenter, if you're lazy.

Besides, I recall that there was a contest (or auction for charity or other) for a temporarily renaming of the building to your own liking. That was cool.

Nah, nothing against Canada. You should know that the Celtics have a great basketball tradition whose roots stemmed from the soul of the Boston Garden. What I can't get over with is the fact that it was demolished in '97.

We should have done (back in 1995) what the Knicks did years ago...call it the New Boston Garden and eventually everyone would have just started calling it the Garden again...there are actually people who still call it the FleetCenter because that's what they're most used to...SAD!
