Our Bigs Need to Start Rebounding Better

It's easy to blame one player for a loss, especially when that player plays aweful as Ray Allen did. But this is still a team sport.

One of the main reasons that we lost was because of our rebounding. Noah, Miller, and Tyrus Thomas outrebounded Perkins, Davis, and Powe, 35-19 in nearly identical minutes.
Perkins has to do a lot better job of rebounding and keeping his man, Noah(17 rebounds) off the boards. Davis also has to be a better job. He only had 3 rebounds in 40 minutes. Leon Powe was our only big that rebounded well, with 8 rebounds in only 16 minutes. When need Leon in there more.

Once we do a better job of rebounding and defense, this series should turn around back to our favor.

didn't rondo have like 9 boards, though? that initiates the fast break n all.

Yep. 5 more than Rose in fewer minutes. Marbury had a couple too.

Overall, the Bulls had 8 more rebounds than the Cs, but the same number of offensive rebounds. The opposing center outrebounded Perk by 9 boards.

So while the naive numbers can be misleading -- yeah, one would think the Cs could do better than they did yesterday.

You guys are making too much of this.

The offensive rebounds on both sides being even says it all. The Bulls only outrebounded the Celtics because the Celtics missed more shots than the Bulls, period. Not because we were better at rebounding.

The Celtics missed 60 field goals compared to the Bulls' 55, and the Celtics missed 6 free throws compared to the Bulls' 2. That's the only cause, IMO, of the difference in rebounding. Bulls had more opportunities on the defensive end.

Rondo did a great job of rebounding. But at 6'1 he isn't a big. The title is our bigs need to do a better job of rebounding. I compared Noah, Tyrus Thomas and Brad Miller vs Perkins, BBD, and Powe. It's cool, people read what they want to read.

There is no way that Noah should dominate Perkins like that on the boards.

It's not QUITE that simple. The Cs' offensive rebounding percentage was worse than the Bulls'.

You're ignoring what I'm saying.

I'm saying there's no point in the bigs grabbing easy boards if Rondo can get them instead, because that initiates the fast break. Is it really beneficial for perkins to grab a wide open board if Rondo's in the vicinity?

Now if you're saying "Perkins failed to box out Noah here" or "Tyrus was jumping RIGHT OVER Big Baby" that's another deal. But your entire post revolves around pure box-score rebounding. There have been some pretty awful rebounding teams with great box score rebounding bigs.

FACT of the matter:
4 more missed free throws
5 more missed FGA

That's why the bulls as a TEAM had more defensive rebounds.

Rondo and Pierce combine for 16 boards
that's a lot of rebounding from two smalls, taking away from the bigs.

That's exactly what I'm saying. There is no way Perkins should allow Noah to get 17 boards.

Powe and Perkins might do better but BBD is just a craptastic rebounder. I wouldn't hold out hope with him.

Noah Getting 17 boards and Perkins not boxing him out are not the same thing, though. Noah got defensive boards, which has nothing to do with

Now if you want to specifically examine Noah's 5 offensive rebounds, please do so. Saying "Noah got 17 boards" means NOTHING. Show me that those 5 offensive boards were the bigs being lazy.

That's not how that usually works. You have a better chance for a fast break if you have the guards releasing and bigs that throw good outlet passes. Its hard to start a fast break when your guards are crashing the glass - you give the defense to much time to get back.

Rondo got 9 rebounds, and the Celtics got killed on fast break points.

Wow. What part of our Perkins, Powe, and BBD getting outrebounded 35-19 vs Brad Miller, Noah, and Tyrus Thomas are you not understanding. 35-19.

Did you watch the game? Or did you just look at the box score? They out fought us and out hussled us in front of our home crowd.

Look at the 48 second mark. We didn't even care. There was no fire and desire to play the game. We ere sleep walking for most of the game.
