Did any one watch the D-league championship game? The box score looks like Giddens absolutely dominated in a losing effort. 17 Rebounds? Is that true?

Too bad the kid couldn't even do **** in C's practices, from what we've heard...

Yea, it's true. The kid is a dominating rebounder. He led his conference in rebounding as a guard. Seems like he got in Doc's doghouse pretty early for some reason.

How tall is he ? He can't be worse than Mikki Moore

I think the kid has a lot of athletic ability but isn't particularly coachable, now that may be his fault and it may be the fact that the kid has played for 4 coaches and two programs at the college level. This year may be good for him other players have struggled to adjust to Boston's offense and defense rotations and principles

We should call him up. He would be more useful to us at the bench right now then Pruitt is IMO...If Perk and Baby get foul trouble we are screwed..I'd rather have him in there over Moore or Scal(Unless Scal picks it up from where he left off)...but that's just me...

his biggest mistake was not practing early on with the team when he didnt have a deal signed. For some reason his agent had him working out at other facilities. Kind of silly. I think the way he was treated by the Celtics was their way of sending a msg and punishing him. I mean he was a first round pick so his deal is guaranteed.
Bill Walker came in early and worked hard and he got rewarded with some burn. Giddens came in lost and a step behind everyone and it cost him an opportunity to crack the rotation.

There's nothing Giddens could have done to earn playing time this year.

Giddens was late in camp which put him behind the others, then he deferred to the stars on the team and was not himself. Next year, if he is still with us, he will be a way better player.

Giddens mada a mistake not showing up for the rookie camp. The Celtics organised the camp pretty much for his and Walker's benefit. Walker took advantage of the camp and moved ahead of Giddens on the rotation.
Great summer for Walker who looked like he was going to Europe.
I don't know if he could have held his spot by showing up for the camp. It seems like missing the camp was a minor bonehead move. Nothing like a knee injury dunking or fleeeing a night club fight. Nonetheless, he got himself on the bonehead scale in my book.

I see him as a defensive sg stopper...he could be good, sure better than Tony Allen
I hope he gets some minutes next year

We can't get him now from the D-League. The playoff roster is set.

He could be taking Tony Allen's spot next year. Remember TA & Scal have about $6.0 million in expiring contracts next season. Giddens, Walker & Pruitt need to step up and show something next season to make TA & Scal expendable.

Giddens couldn't have gone to camp without his contract signed, his agent would have to be an idiot to let that happen. His contract isn't guaranteed till it is signed, that was what was up Ainge was the one playing games not the kid.
I think he is similiar to TA in a lot of ways but I think better is more than a stretch. The MWC is not the Big 12.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
We keep seeing posts on Ray being traded due to his expiring, which I don't believe will happen because we would then be locked into a longer term $19Mil deal, and still have to sign Rondo to a max contract after next season. Money around the NBA will be tight, so what I think Danny will do is shop our other expirings to upgrade the bench. Scal is the biggest at $3.4 Mil, then we have House (player option) at $2.8 Mil and TA at $2.5 Mil. In addition, I beieve we also have ~ $1.5 Mil in trade exceptions.
JR screwed up by not starting until his contract was signed, but what would the upside be? Getting Walker minutes? Walker didn't get much burn this year either.
Doc doesn't like to play rookies, and he especially doesn't play rookies who don't play great defense. Coming to camp on time and ready to play defense, will be key for JR to get some burn next year. The opportunity to trade some expirings may force Doc to give him and Walker some time on the floor as well.

Is Boston in the summer league this year? If yes, this could be an opportunity for Giddens to make a name for himself. Or at least show that he deserves a chance to make the rotation next season.

Boston is playing in the Orlando SL this year...
Giddens is a better prospect than TA, but no, he isn't currently better than TA nor was he better in college...his game and skill set is superior in potential i believe - better shooter, longer, taller, more explosive, better passer, rebounder, moves off-ball for catch-and-shoot better, etc...he still has to put it all together though...

Also, Giddens is twenty-four which is old for a rookie. Second-year player Al Thornton, of the Clippers, is twenty-five (twenty-six by early next season) and has already been contributing for them. So, Giddens' ceiling is obviously not going to be high. Thus, you would like for next season to be his season. If not, he was a waste of a selection in the first round.
