How $ will Big Baby Davis get this summer?
Big Baby is FA. He played really well to end the season when Powe and KG got injured. Now he is playing extremely well against Chicago (averaging 19.3 and 7.0 rebounds). He is only 23, but he is undersized, so he does not have the ceiling of some other young bigs. Though fundamentals are very sound and he has a nice mid-range jumper.
How much will he command on the open market?

All I know Celtics org. will have to reach deep in their pockets to keep this roster the way it is now.

Its so hard to say. The headline "players want teams to open their books" foreshadows a potentially ugly offseason, and it will be interesting how much money is really out there, or at least the owners version of what is out there. I suspect we will see some surprisingly low/"insulting" offers. Baseball owners/scumbags have cried poor and taken advantage of the public resentment toward players quite successfully and I would'n't be surprised if a similar thing happened in basketball.

Re: How $ will Big Baby Davis get this summer?
Big Baby is a restricted FA this off season, he is limited to a maximum salary of the MLE and the Celtics can match any offer.
The MLE is roughly 5.6 mil so that is the most he can earn in the first year of a deal and I think 5 years and 32 mil is this max.
Working back from there my guess is that Baby is going to get between 2.5-3.5 mil per on a 3 year deal (based on simliar player), unless somebody goes nuts like the Warriors did with Turiaf and he gets a 4 years 16 mil.
My guess is that he works things out here on a reasonable deal if not I think it will get kind of bumpy because I don't think anyone is going to sign guys to offer sheets so he may be back on the QO and that is not good most of the time. Let me tell you there are some bad bench mark contracts out there.

Big Baby makes less than a million Ihad read that he would probably get a 3 to 5 million a year. We need to get this guy signed to a long term deal because in three years he could be a replacement for KG when he leaves the game. We also need some size Davis gives us bulk but we need to get a big with bulk who can be a banger to come off the bench. I'm still wondering why Danny picked gabe pruitt he is actually lookng like the first pick that Danny made a mistake on. Glen Davis makes up for it though. I would have rather seen us draft a big guy instead of pruitt.

I think the C's will let him play the market like they did with Posey.

It's going to be a bad market with the economy in the ****...he should just re-sign and move on to next season! As long as we don't overpay, though...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Re: How $ will Big Baby Davis get this summer?
full MLE.
And I know Baby was on a diffrent contract for a second rounder then Ainge's usual. He didn't want the celtics to have his rights and that's why he's expriring with Leon Powe instead of a year later.
And he lucked out because it's just going to work out for him.

Who else is available for the MLE? You can't react emotionally as a GM like a fan. BBD right now is a good value. At the MLE? It depends on who else we could get. The C's have needs.

I see a team offering him a 4 year 16 million deal. He is not worth more. Then again you only need one GM to like his game...

I think he'll get a similar deal as Turiaf did

Glen is going to get a good deal in this offseason, and he deserves it. The guy has become a very good player, and was one of those who really doubted him. I don't think anyone is going to go overboard with a long contract with him, in fear of him possibly eating himself out of a lineup, but he will get at least 3.5 million a year, and the Celtics should look to reatin him. He is a quality player, and he already knows all of our stuff, which is very important.

Re: How $ will Big Baby Davis get this summer?
a side note, I was very sad to hear that Leon Powe won't be able to play for 3-12 months.. and Doc thought it appropriate to ask if we could give him a mercy signing...
Powe had his playoff wow year last year.. he shouldn't need a mercy signing.
But yeah, there's going to be one team out there that will like Baby as a utility big and give him the MLE. He's still 23 or something so it won't be the worst of investements. He's established himself in the regular season and now the playoffs this year to warrent it.

Re: How $ will Big Baby Davis get this summer?
I had hoped that Carl Landry's 3 years 9 mil would be the bench mark contract for Baby and Leon. But Boston really isn't in a position to wait and play the market they are facing the reality of having one healthy big (depending on what you call Scal) under contract going into the season. While the economy will have an impact on FA, what it might do is chase teams away from the waiting game with Vet FA's and go after cost controlled options.
Jason Maxiell's 4 year 20 mil is brutal. It would appear that 4 mil per is the number then it is just whether it is 3,4, or 5 years. Maybe they do a player option in year 4 and a team in year 5.
The Leon situation totally sucks. You have to almost right him off for next year so if Boston doesn't sign him no one will till he can play. It seems ridiculous but he might have to take a 2 year minimum from Boston with the second year a team option or wait out in the cold.

Latest I heard on Leon was 6-12 months, which puts him anywhere from next November to next May...totally sucks for the guy.
As long as we don't overpay for Davis, we need to bring him back. Leon going down was the best thing that could have happened to him (and I don't mean this in an insensitive way)

There's no way it takes Powe 12 months to recover from an ACL injury - that's a 6-8 month average - he'll be back by Jan/Feb at the latest.
Davis is not going to get more than 4 million per year - MLE deals have been way down in recent years and this isn't the year that teams are likely to gamble like that.
Boston should retain both and then spend on a superior vet big to Mikki Moore.

Like Rasheed? He's long, he defends well, and he can stretch the floor with his 3 point shooting. He is exactly what this team needs.

I don't get all the love for Rasheed...yes he has oodles of talent but he seems to try really hard only when he feels like it...

For every playoff game he turns in like last night, figure another 500k per year.
