Rondo's Jumper

Sorry for another Rondo thread but I think this deserves it's own discussion.
I have never seen him with as much confidence in that thing as he does right now. He's even shooting 3s for goodness sake. Anyone else notice when he takes them in rhythm, they go in. If not, they don't. (barring his game 2 miracle shot. still wondering what on earth happened on that play) I can't believe how simple it's becoming. When he scores, we win. It's the truth really - look at the stats.
He's even making free throws. If he continues to play the way he's playing and hit that jumper, it's scary because he's virtually unstoppable in virtually every facet of the game.

Give alot of credit to Ray Allen for this. Rondo and him have been coming early to the arena and knocking down jumpers.

Agreed. His mechanics look completely different than last year. MUCH smoother looking. He looked like he was tossing up boulders last year.

The more Rondo learns from Ray the better, if he can make the mid-outside jumper with regularity he becomes unstoppable

I think it was Kenny Smith who was talking about this, said that Avery Johnson was similar - he wasn't a confident shooter, but when he wasn't really challenged, he could knock them down. Rondo is making a fairly good percentage of his jumpers since he isn't really being challenged on them.
The bad news is when people stop giving him that shot, he won't make them quite as often...
The good news is when that happens, he'll be blowing by them for layups even more.
Plus there's no reason he won't improve further...man is he opening people's eyes this series.
Interesting thing is, I think a higher proportion of his scoring is coming on jumpers that it used to, at least to my eyes. It's just part of the give and take as people are backing off to avoid getting burned on drives.

He was even running plays designed to get him jumpers, by which I mean he was doing things that seemed unlikely to have any good outcome other than an open jumpshot for Rondo.

Way to try to ruin a positive thread with your negativity.
Don't you think it makes sense to gives credit to
both Rondo and Allen? I mean, everyone seemed to love giving credit to both Al Jefferson and Clifford Ray--and they both deserved it.
As far as being "inattentive souls", I don't buy for a second that Rondo was this confident with his jumpshot throughout the entire course of the year.
Anyway, great job Rondo

The only guy i can see him beating out it billups because he is a lower percentage shooter and is getting older...
Otherwise, harris and parker have similar playing styles to rondo but already have a much much more reliable jumper.
Paul and Williams is out of the question.

So Rondo's knocking down jumpshots with consistency, eh? Thanks for the four month old news.
Oh and DCelt, nice try. Give credit to
Rajon Rondo for this. He's been working on his jumpshot a lot this year.
Should I be surprised that it's taken some inattentive souls 85 games to notice things that have been happening with regularity for most of the season? Anywhere but RealGM and I would be.

Harris being better than Rondo is a little bit laughable, imo.
And thanks to the ballboy for saying what threads have occurred to much on this board. Your input is appreciated.

we'll rondo is never going to be a take over the game offensive player. So I can see Paul, Williams,Parker, and Billups being favored over him. Since they're abilities will be more readily translated to other teams then Rondo.
Harris will be close... but they're has to be a better competition out there for the 5th spot then Harris right now... nothing comes off the top of my head.
I guess we'll eliminate Nash and Kidd based on age.

Of Paul, Chauncey, Parker, Williams, Harris, and Rondo, Rondo might be the best defender. He's certainly better than Parker who is a defensive sieve. CP3 gets a lot of steals, but is exposed when going up against bigger guards.
Here's the h2h with Rondo and each of those guys this year
Paul
16.5 ppg, 9.5 apg, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 35.5%
Billups
10.5 ppg, 6 apg, 1 rebound, 35%
Parker
16.5 ppg, 6.5 apg, 5 rebounds, 42.9%
Williams
16.5 ppg, 8.5 apg, 3 rebounds, 44.4%
Harris
16.3 ppg, 5 apg, 1.2 steals, 38.9%
Rondo vs. Paul
8 ppg, 6.5 apg, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 30.4%
vs. Billups
8 ppg, 7.5 apg, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 40%
vs. Parker
11ppg, 14 apg, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 36.7%
vs. Williams
20ppg, 7.5 apg, 5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 57.1%
vs. Harris
17.5 ppg, 9 apg, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 61.4%

Like Rose, I expect his jumper to develop with each passing year. RR simply has the drive to succeed that you can't teach, and it will pay-off for the Celts. This coming out party has been fun to watch. Now it's truly crunch time, best of three, may the best man win!

yeah one thing I've noticed... is Rose is going to have a jumper down. He'll take it to the next level offensively.
I think Rondo will be better for the next couple of years, and then Rose will surpass him simply because Rose has more tools [a jumper]. Rose will probuly never be the defender Rondo is... but he can learn help defense and become a thief.. situational steals.. like Rondo's situational jumper.

This coming from a Laker fan, but Rondo looks impressive. Very underrated point guard and by next season I'll be calling the Celtics the Big 4. Hope KG gets well and then we'll see you guys in the Finals. *wishful thinking*

im a cavs fan and i just wanna say wow to rondo. he has improved alot this year, and his just straight tearing up the playoffs. the sky is the limit for him especially if ray allen keeps working with him. he could be an all-star next season with his improving play and name recognition he is getting right now.
