What is his reputation though?
Look at these playoff numbers. This doesn't deserve more playing time, only less. The lineup could be easily shifted right now.
G MIN FGM-A FG% 3PM-A 3P% FTM-A FT% OFF DEF TOT STL BLK TO PF AST PTS
9 12.0 12-43 .279 2-7 .286 6-6 1.000 0.2 1.0 1.2 .00 .00 .44 1.00 1.9 3.6
Do you know where where this team would be if we acutally had to rely on him more? Or that Rondo wasn't quite superman and Eddie wasn't hitting these shots.

Marbury's stats are bad, but he's playing defense, keeping the tempo up and the ball moving which are the things he's there for- and which don't show in these numbers.

Probably Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

what bugs me is he can't put 2 good outings together. He played great in game 1 and then came out last night and couldn't hit anything. In game 1 I thought DOc made a mistake never putting him back in the game and I think that carried over to game 2. Bynow Marbury must realize that he's never going to be the Man on this team orperhaps any other team ever again. I really thought after game 1 he was going to keep it going but last night he was back to being tentative with the shot. He did create some nice plays for scal and others and I don't think there can be any debate that he is the best back up pg we have. Also he and eddie seem to have good chemistry. Our backcourt is our only real advantage in the playoffs and if Marbury can get it going we could really be a problem for a lot of teams

I think he'll figure it out during these playoffs....
I think he was agressive in both the Orlando games, though he eased off the gas after starting 1-5, which is understandable.
The important step for him is BEING AGGRESSIVE which he was for 2 straight games. The next step is being aggressive with a PURPOSE.
Last night Marbury got into the lane on 3 occassions where he wen for motion shots that he missed. On all three attempts he had beaten his primary defender and had his choice of options. Old School Marbury would have slowed the play down in his head and gone with the easiest shot available - a stop-on-a-dime pull-up fallaway from 10 feet, which would have been a layup for him.
Right now he is just coming to terms with the idea that the team WANTS him to take shots early and see where he's at - the more confident he is with the J the more they will start to fall - our superstars start 1-5 all the time, but they are allowed to work through it - Marbury doesn't have that luxury because he doesn't have anything in the offense for him and he doesn't know when he should do what.
I really hope he stays with the club because a full off-season and TC will give Doc the chance to work him into the offense, which will create a much more self-assured and confident Marbury who will work to spots and attack with purpose.
I like what i've seen overall in this series though and I expect it to continue as Alston and Johnson have no chance of containing his dribble penetration, which combined with Rondo, could very well win this series for Boston.
Its hard to be patient when you've seen a completely different level of performance from a player and you're eager to have it working for your team, but going off experience I think its a matter of some minor adjustments to harness that ability once more.
Marbury may not reach epic scoring status this playoffs, but he should find a higher level this year and come next season he could be a legit 6th man ala Jason Terry I believe...

I think this is a valid criticism - he hasn't been very good. But clearly Doc is trying to get him going - like he did with PJBrown. Marbury hasn't played in a quite a while. Physically he looks very quick to me. He is faster then Telfair ever was, IMHO.
I think the Ray Allen treatment last year was simliar. Doc stuck with him when alot of us felt that TA would give us more. But it eventually paid off like it did with PJBrown (who was horrific when he first arrived)..

Marbury has been a disappoitment any way you look at it. He is finally in game shape and is moving really well. But his has no confidence in his jump shoot. It's too bad that Tony Allen lacks even more confidence. For now, we are stuck with Marbury. I hope Gabe is given a shot next year.

This is not to argue.....but how do you know he is in game shape. Maybe he's not yet.......he was out a long time....just sayin.

I could tell from his speed and lateral quickness. He is actually playing good defense as well.

I've been saying it all along and i'm going to keep saying it: Marbury still got it.
I hope we get to sign him next year. Having him solves our backup pg and sg (depending on matchups) need off the bench.
Yeah his numbers are bad but so were Ray's when he first got here because he had to change his whole style of playing when he got here. Marbury has been the same. He doesnt have the luxury of playing 40 minutes and getting hot like Pierce and Ray do. It takes time to get used to it believe it or not.
Yes, he hasnt been shooting the ball well but that would probably be the last indicator I would look at to get a gauge on where his game is. With confidence and time there is no questions his jumper will return to old form. Its not like athleticism where you just lose it. His problem right now is finding where he fits in and when to shoot and when not to shoot. He is feeling out where he can pick his spots.
You have to watch him to be able to really judge where his game is. He still has that quickness to get by guys and get to the whole. His passes are still crisp when shooters come off screens. He gets us into our sets early on offense which was our biggest problem with Eddie. People underestimate some of these things that you have to watch to see.

Marbury is playing decently to well in all regards except one -- his shots aren't going in.
Given how rarely they go in, it's not clear that his aggression/decision-making are off at all. Should he be shooting more? Less? Neither case is easy to prove.
And by the way -- when he hit 4 FGs in Game 1, three were the same shot -- that swooping, floating hook.

As long as he keeps playing defense and getting the ball to Eddie House, im ok with him as the backup. He needs to start looking for his shot more, there so many times where he passes up the open shot for a tougher one...BUT the better he does the less we get to see of Rondo.

I really hope we keep him, hes taken time to get back into things but the positive signs are there.. beyond the stats, and with an off-season, training camp etc with the team i think he could be a great back up (plus we never got to see the Steph to KG 'oop)
also... he looked like he was going to go off in game 1 and couldnt get back on the floor... so it looks like doc already has set in his mind how many minutes everyone is going to play (or at least he wants them to play)

Yes, his shooting percentage is poor, but there are many positive aspects of his play that aren't reflected in the stats. I look at the way he gets into the lane with ease, and the way he delivers timely and accurate passes to his teammates when he does penetrate. His shot will come eventually, have no doubt. But I've been pleased with his ability to distribute the ball and his commitment on the defensive end. I too, hope that he re-signs with us for next season. Like BFB said, with a training camp under his belt he will be a much more confident player in our system. The kid's got talent, there was never a question about that. The only questions were about his character and the perception of him as a selfish player. Well since he arrived in Boston he's been a model citizen and unselfish almost to a fault. I think he's bought into Ubuntu, and the thought of him running around next year with a healthy KG is an exciting prospect for me.

The best thing about Marbury is that Celtic Nation doesn't collectively groan when he comes in. Previously our back up PG's had that effect.
His stats aren't pretty, but he isn't taking much off the table but is adding good D with confident ball handling.
The shot will come.

I'm glad you guys are positive and optimistic about my dude Marbury.
I also believe that he should come back next year. No doubt, he would be a great and valuable asset. Hopefully, we see Starbury making the threes rain next season.

Look at our TO's in the regular season and then in the playoffs. The difference between Steph handling the ball and House/Pruitt is night and day.

We brought Marbury to SCORE and for OFFENSE and he has been HORRIFIC. At least he's playing defense, but still ... no wonder our bench has been so weak this post-season. We need him to SCORE!! Damn it.

Pruitt had his shot and didn't take advantage of it. Walker and Giddens will be given the next set of chances..unless we shake things up alot in the offseason.
