Many people out there speculating how our postseason would be faring if we had posey on the roster. Seems to be 50/50 regarding posey lovers and haters but I think alot of fans are missing the fact that as cliche as it is to call a guy a "system player", thats exactly what posey is to the celtics. hes absolutely more valuable to us than he is to the hornets, and possible any other team in the L. It could be any number of things, player/player or player/coach chemistry (we know he was like big brother of the family in boston), his attitude playing for a storied and successful franchise, playing with legends like KG, PP and Ray, or just believing that he had a legitimate shot at a championship and giving 110%.

So when you look at his less than inspiring contribution to NO this year you have to keep the above point in mind before you say "Poseys play has fallen off... good thing we let him go." We all know the reasons hes not with Boston anymore, its a money game. but having him back in Boston in some capacity (assuming its practical financially) would be a boon to Beantown.

I would jsut like to make the point that since the celts would have to pay a 100% tax on his salary it would have cost the celts $10,000,000 a year to keep him. They did the right thing.

Especially since we're on the cusp of the ECF and Posey is watching at home...

I don't think anyone is negative about James Posey it was simply you can't overvalue him because he helped you win a title, paying him 6 mil a year isn't going to make him play better or stay younger.

I think most of us have considered the idea of trading for Posey back. The conclusion I keep comming to is that it would onl;y work if we had a bad contract to send back, and simply put we do not. We really don't have anyone on the team I'd rather be paying Posey than. I mean the unproven guys yes, but they make so little that trading them for Posey would leave a lot of open roster spots that we would end up paying to fill.

I'd also like to point out that wjhen he was playing for us, he was also playing for a contract, which he got.

With his contract length and size, it's hard to say if we'd do a Scalabrine+ TA for Posey right now. Dispite how much of an amazing role player Posey is.

But honestly, I'd want to do it. We don't gain or lose any $$$ in that trade and if NO is looking to dump him... that'd be great. And Posey is just an amazing version of Scalabrine... while TA leaves things to be desired.

also TA and Scal expire in 2010.

I think that trade might be one of the few redeemable qualities of those two.

But this is pretty much on the condition NO is looking to rebuild... would of been a lot more likely if the Chandler trade stood.

The Celtics haven't played any teams with dominant wing players, Posey would help to slow down a guy like Kobe or Lebron...

Tony Allen just wont get the job done.

This is all New Orleans fault for offering him too many years. We would've liked him back, but this contract just looks way too high/long.

I think the flaw with trading Tony and Scal for Posey is down the line we will be paying Posey too much for what he is worth.

Love the guy but it was too many years to give him that much money.

Trading to get him back would be a bad idea because we just passed on the best year he had left in order to avoid having him on that contract longterm. If we had given him that money Glen Davis and Leon Powe would've been as good as gone.

We are a championship contending franchise which gives us a leg up in attracting quality veteran free agents at a lower price tag. With KG's extension kicking in and Ray & Paul expected cheaper extensions around the corner we'll have a longer window if that cash stays available for the types of players likely to be available in the summer of 2010.

IMO they would be stupid not to. They have MoPete under contract for another two seasons - not as good as Posey but brings a similar game. They also need to free up minutes for Julian Wright who is a very solid defender and could become a better player than Posey in the short term. Meanwhile TA and Scal expire next season and they are weak at two guard and Tony Allen wouldn't have to handle the ball much playing alongside CP3. They need defense @ the 2 to complement Peja.

Its not like I am advocating we offer that trade. I don't like Posey's contract at all and feel we could get a better player to step in and fill a SF/PF role via an FA signing anyway.
