Bad offseason/Poor acquisitions/Injuries...no championship!

Well,
We are out but Im not to dissapointed because with KG and Powe out we realistically didnt have the chance to repeat. If we sum up the season we mad a few mistakes:
Bad offseason:
-Tony Allen signing
-Drafting 2 rookie sg/sf
-Gambling on Obriant---became Moore
-Signing Cassel ---became Marbury
Poor trade deadline acquisitions:
-Marbury
-Moore
Allen,Giddens,Walker,Marbury,Moore, Pruitt...that is basically 6 wasted roster spots leaving us with 9 players.
Now when KG and Powe got hurt we were left with starting 5+Scal and Eddie...not enought.
We lost the chance to compete when KG got injured, but still we SHOULD had a better bench!!!
We will be back next years...I still belive we have the best team!!!

I wouldn't have a problem with it if we developed the bench. We didn't bring in any guarantees, so we had to work in the draftees and projects. Doc had 82 games to work Pruitt, Walker, Giddens, or Allen into the rotation and failed to do so. It really killed us because we just flat out ran out of gas late in the Orlando series. We've looked dead since the Chicago series to be honest. I'm still against the idea of bringing Posey in on that contract and I still like bringing Marbury back for next year, but we needed to make a move last summer on a guy like Matt Barnes, who ended up signing for the minimum in Phoenix. This must be addressed this year. We need to play around with the MLE more than we did last year.

I think the offeseaosn was awful.
Is it Doc's fault Walker, Giddens, Pruitt, OBryant etc coujldn't play?
We had no backup PG for much of the season, no backup wing, and no length at the PF/C spot.
That is an awful construction of the bench by Danny Ainge. We need a wing who can defense and score (Pietrus would have been nice) and some length on the bench. We have got to get someone with length on the bench too who can play.

What do you expect them to show to earn playing time by getting 8 minutes one night, none the next, 6 the next, and then none for the next month? Pruitt showed in stints that he could move the ball and defend, basically all Marbury gave us, but since he was a veteran, despite the fact that he hadn't played in a year and a half, he automatically earned PT. Walker did show a lot in my opinion. He could have at least spelled Pierce or Allen to the bench for a while so they wouldn't get ran into the ground.

I wanted the Birdman. He was available. But we got POB. I rather have kept Cassell instead of Marbury.
Before the waiver, I wanted us to get Bonzi Wells, but we got Marbury and Moore instead. TA was a total disappointment. His time he Boston should be over. Why keep him, since Doc doesn't like?

ALL would have been better moves than what we settled for.

I thought the Heat gave up on their championship chances letting Posey walk to save money. I feared the Cs were doing the same thing.
WIth KG hurt it probably didn't matter, although another decent long defender might have made the difference vs. the Magic.
POB and Cassell were FAILs. Cassell hurt less, as his replacement Marbury actually was playing OK by the time it mattered in the playoffs. POB/Moore was a bigger problem, obviously.
If NONE of Tony/Giddens/Walker step up on the wing next season, of course, that wouldn't be good.

Get over the baby fetish. The babies got as much time as they deserved. Time to do with Giddens and Pruitt what we already did with Patty OBryant. Walker would make an okay 12th man next year.

We're in trouble if Tony/Giddens/Walker are even given the opportunity to step up next year.

This has been mentioned thousands of times, but they should have brought back Posey. He could have guarded Turk and Lewis.. What this team needs next year is a 6-8-6'9 guy who can guard sf's and pf's on the perimeter. Can't just rely on Pierce...

bingo.
you wanna win back to back titles? stay away from injuries, that did hurt your team. and develop chemistry. dumpin posey and not developing and playin the guys who had championship experience is a wrong move. phil jackson keeps guys and brings guys in with experience a it builds chemistry by keeping them around for a long time. secondly red had won multiple titles with the same guys for years. never broke it up. which is puzzling why ainge started mixin and matchin and dumpin players. that was a mistake.

I still think getting Marbury was a good move.

Posey asked for too much with our current salaries.
Now a possibly rebuilding NO is regretting singing him for the money he got.
And maybe if NO wants a salary dump we can trade Scal and TA for Posey. That keeps us from adding Posey's 5 million [it's swapped from Scal and Tony] and we don't loose much.
We found Posey in the free agent market and we were hoping to find another Posey again.
As for the Laker/Phil Jackson fan. This is the modern day NBA.You have to play the game or you'll be left behind. Phil Jackson doesn't play the GM role he plays follow the MVP role and say that means I'm a good coach [Jordan, Shaq, Kobe].
I"m glad this OP wasn't blasted for it's timing; because I've long been an advocate that for a championship team this offseason we got ZERO help, didn't improve ourselves with even vet min signings [Maglorie or Barnes signed for the vet min... we picked up Obryant for 2 years].
And then in teh gamble market, all our gambles failed. Joe Smith (purely timing), McNice (prob only had eyes for DET), Mutuombo(said we rejected him), PJ Brown (obvs didn't come back)... we got stuck with Moore.
I only hope that we can re-sign Marbs without using the MLE. And maybe NO will accept a pure 2010 salary dump for Posey.

Our offseason was a disaster. A complete failure. You just can`t have this many young player on a championship team..

20/20 hindsight is great isn't it? I am fairly sure there were a lot of pretty supportive posts of all the moves at the time they happened.
I agree with the Moore signing being bad, he is a very ordinary player. But all the other moves weren't too bad if we didn't get the injuries. All we needed was one player out of Tony Allen, Gabe Pruitt, and Walker or Giddens to become a solid rotation player for the entire season and I think that could have made a huge difference even with the Garnett/Powe injuries. Paul and Ray just did not have a reliable back up on the wings.
I also agree that some of that blame needs to fall on Doc's shoulders. We should have sacrificed a few wins to make one of those players a regular part of the system. Whoever posted about them only getting short minutes and DNP's hit it on the head.

I will say Danny botched the bench horribly last off-season...just dreadful. Our bench last year was basically Posey, House, Brown, Powe, Davis....we dumped Posey and Brown and thought TA and Scal could pick up their slack? Bad call...

It's a mistake to think Posey and/or Joe Smith or whoever you want to plug in is the reason the Celtics didn't get by the Magic. Those players wouldn't have been enough to get by the Cavaliers either.
No KG/tired legs/injuries = no championship!
