Market for Marbury

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Mon May 18, 2009 5:45 pm

What do people believe is the market for Marbury?

I can't see someone willing to commit to a 3 year deal for Marbury. There is always a chance he could be trouble and then you are stuck with him for 3 years. I see a short money deal as his max market value, something like $6-$7 million total for 2 years. Now someone could offer him a starting job for that money but I can't see teams offering him more. What are people's thoughts?

I think Marbury will re-sign with the Cs for a 1 year deal.

Marbury's market is low. He didn't prove he could be a 30 minute player and has missed 2 years.

He either resigns with us at the LLE exception, or he goes to Europe. I think Marbury may do the Europe thing. He seems to be interested in that. I just need some explosiveness to return,

I am not going to try and figure out what is going on in Marbury's mind. Last night aside he has been a pretty good back up pg, and somewhat of a surprise defensively. I would like for him to come back at LLE which is just shy of 2 mil but I don't think he has proven to be worth more than that. I don't think he is a starter anymore and has yet to prove he is going to be an impact player off the bench which is different than putting up numbers dominating the ball.

Marbs mentioned the Europe thing.

He seems too stupid to make it in another culture to me, but if someone wants to pay him then he'll be there.

He said he was interested in coming back to the Cs but wanted more minutes... with Rondo emerging this playoffs I don't see starting minutes for him on this team when it counts.

I'd like to have Marb the player come back for next year. But I'm not sure Marbs the person. His "good manners" may have just about ran out by now.

I'd bring him back for cheap, but no big deal if he leaves. He was good except for his shooting, which was horrific.

Honestly I would rather get anyone else or even contunue trying to develop gabe. Marbury was awful and I just feel like we are better off gambling on somone with some upside.

He proved he cant lead a team as a starter and being locker room cancer I dont know if any team will risk picking him up.

Im afraid he will make scene next season if he stays, he wont like playing 15 minutes a game.

I dont now...give him max 2 mio...I m ok with that.

Also I dont like small lineup Marbury/House...we will see.

If he's cheap I'd like to see him back. I think a full training camp would do him wonders.

Try to bring him back if House opts out.. I just can't see Marbury being effective with 12-15 minutes a night. He needs to be out there for 25+ and that's probalby not going to happen with House around... There's some teams out there that can give him minutes, but he may not get paid much more than $2 or $3 million.

If we can bring back Powe, Marbury, House, and Scal.... imo, we're gona be ok. those 4 guys are good comming off the bench. Insert Bill Walker in there for 10 mins a game to spell Pierce, and we'll be fine.

Rondo 35, Marbury 15
Ray 35, House 15
Pierce 35, Walker 10
KG 35, Scal 10
Perk 30, Powe 20

We get bounced our by orlando again. That bench is awful. Veal is our tallest reserve? Awful bench. If this is what it looks like Danny should be fired. KG, Pierce and Allen need less minutes, not more.

Powe is hurt and won't play for most of next year. Walker may not belong in the NBA, and House can't defend.

There are better players out there than those 5 guys. We can do better.

for cheap, we have no better option so i hope we try to keep him... with a training camp in the team he could be very solid off the bench

other teams will field similar, low money offers for him... he will basically be able to pick and choose from around 10 teams, for the same low ball amount, or head to europe

i think he likes it here, i just hope he likes winning and the guys on the team more then he would getting minutes elsewhere

Wait, what? I'm unsure of this Marbury quote. Well, at least he can say sixth man. Iverson only knows one word beginning with "S," starter.

And though Marbury's role off the bench was low-impact on too many playoff nights, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said after getting eliminated in Game 7 to Orlando, he'd like to see the Coney Islander in green next season.

"He had his ups and downs,'' Rivers said. "He was behind the eight ball. He didn't have a lot of time to get it. But he was great. He wasn't only good on the court. He was phenomenal off the court. He did a lot for (Rajon) Rondo. He was great for us. We'd like him back but we'll see.''

I wouldn't be surprised if Marbury entertained offers in Europe if the pay was right and he didn't have a starting-job opportunity elsewhere.

"I got to wait and see,'' Marbury said. "I'm not going to make any hasty decisions. But I loved playing here. Being a Sixth Man coming off the bench is not a bad thing. I know I'm a starter so it really doesn't matter as long as I'm the court.''

If he had time to realy gel with the team he could definitely be a true 6th man

we didnt really have one at all once Baby and Powe were removed from the bench

I would sign Marbs to a 1-yr deal to see if he can do the 6th man thing...if not, bye bye!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

There could be options at backup point guard this off-season. A lot of older veterans will become available, but a few better options might be there via trade. At worst, I keep Pruitt ahead of Marbury.
