Celtics coach Doc Rivers, appearing on the Dennis & Callahan Show, said that shooting guard Ray Allen was hampered by a hamstring injury during the series against the Orlando Magic. "Ray had a hamstring problem throughout the Orlando series," said Rivers. "In Ray’s case, I thought his hamstring was bothering him a lot. That could have had an effect on him."

Rivers also said that, in addition to the surgery that Kevin Garnett will require on his right knee, Kendrick Perkins likely will require a procedure on his injured shoulder, and that Paul Pierce "had some bone spurs that may need to be removed as well."

Rivers also said that the Celtics required some additions for the 2009-10 season.

"We have to improve our team. There’s no doubt about that. We don’t have to make any changes, but we do need some additions," said Rivers. "We need a small forward who can defend, who can make shots and give (Pierce) a blow."

I hope that's the reason Ray had a crappy series, but it kind of sounds like Doc is just throwing something out there to take the heat off of Ray.

I don't doubt Doc Rivers on this one. It just proves that Paul & Ray are not 40+ minutes a night guys at this stage of their careers. They both should be playing 34-38 minutes a game. This is why a legit backup SG/SF is so important. No Tony Allen is not legit.

How much more surgical work can Perk's poor shoulder take?

SF that can defend and make shots and give Pierce a blow.

Sounds like Posey to me.

Between these comments and Ainge's earlier that's pretty much what everyone has been saying.

I'm less concerned with a backup PG with Rondo's emergence.

Props to Perk for playing such a physical series with Howard with a busted shoulder! Howards offensive were number a little inflated given that our guards could not stop penetration, thus pulling Perk away from Howard giving him easy dunks! Great series Perk!!!

10 pts 12 brds 53%FG 2 blks against the Defensive Player of the Year!!!
