OT:Did you guys watch the Draft Lottery-?

Early in the broadcast, Lisa Salters ran through the Process....at the end, she explains that "Now the balls here-these are just for PRACTICE....the balls that will be used tonight are Locked inside this Brief Case (as they show it)".............you see, THIS is how they FIX the Lottery.....WTF was WRONG with the PRACTICE Balls?..............................................NOTHING, they are NOT Weighted-!!!...and the balls have to be blown UPWARDS.
They ASSIGN combinations of numbers to teams....One or Two of the balls have been weighted----and IF they Don't want a team or two to win----They make sure that Number Combinations include at least one of the "Weighted" numbered balls....THIS is how ALL 3 worst teams got screwed in 2007...ALSO, they DO NOT Broadcast it live--cause you could tape or tivo it, and see a couple of balls not blowing upwards.
If it ISN'T Fixed---Why do they change the Balls?...Why don't they assign more Random numbers?...and Why not broadcast it live?...they need to change these 3 things to get rid of ANY and ALL suspicion.
Believe me or not, this is the ONLY way they CAN Fix the lottery if they WANTED to do it......When the C's lost in 2007--I remember Wyc saying something like, "I didn't even bother to check the board---Cause all of our combinations had either a 1 or 2 in it...When I didn't see those balls come up, I knew we didn't win."
But, I'm actually glad we LOST in 2007----cause No Championship for a LONG time if we had gotten Oden or Durant.
and Tonight-Memphis was given the No.2 Pick because of the Pau Gasol trade....hahahaha.

IDK, imagine getting Oden in that draft
2010 lineup
Rondo/S. Telfair
D.West/G. Green/Mid-range possible lottery pick
Pierce/Wally/Gomes
Al Jefferson/Big Baby/Scal
Perkins/Oden
Backuping Guards may be a problem, but that's... intriguing.

Yeah, why can't they broadcast it live? Wouldn't that create more suspense and will have more viewers then? There's got to be a very, very good reason for them to not to broadcast it live.

My point for posting this for a second time---it seems that A LOT of people think that there is something FISHY with the NBA Draft lottery----Well, if there IS....THIS is how they do it--!!
Remember how Jerry West AND Tommy Heinsohn BOTH acted after the 2007 Lottery??.....like they knew SOMETHING wasn't right----but of course nobody wants to KILL the Goose that lays the Golden Eggs.

What bothered me about the 07 lottery was that it seemed like a clear punishment for the 2 teams that were actually tanking (we can thank Ryan Gomes for that). I remember either Wyc or Danny saying something during one of the final broadcasts of that season which sounded a little ominous (like they knew something bad was going down). I'm of the belief that its predetermined in some way, we have been screwed both time we have lost on purpose, but screw it we got a championship instead of a injury plagued center and a high volume scorer, both may have a bright future but Ill take the championship any day!
Why can't they televise the actual drawings???

I think the reason they use for not broadcasting it is time constraints or something like that!?

Time constraints?....don't kid yourself----They don't even tape it to begin with---They could always show it on tape delay if they WANTED to.

The lottery is too valuable to the teams that they would accept something fishy going on. I don't believe it is rigged.

But think about it.
Wouldn't the live thing be more enticing? It really make little sense to hide it behind closed doors.
Unless they are concealing something. Think about it. There are only so many off-season things to excite the teams who aren't still in the playoffs... draft lottery, draft, summer league, free agency, trades... Why wouldn't they milk the draft lottery?
I almost never talk about conspiracies because they usually make no sense. This makes at least SOME sense.

Maybe it would be more exciting if the odds would be distributed evenly. You've got ping pong balls with one franchise logo and not an odd combination of four numbers that needs to be deciphered.
But think about it. The lottery would last one minute. That's not a lot of excitement, isn't it? While the actual live show calls out the teams in reverse order, which brings a lot of excitement as everybody knows the order of the seeds and what will happen if a team is not named. For the sake of the draft system, it's more exciting that way it is right now.
The NBA understands that the fans are suspicous and therefore lets Abbott & Co write about the process. But they understand as well that they shouldn't break up their system just for some conspirational theories (that would be still apparent in a real live show... [lotto machine fixed, lotto balls fixed, etc.])

Watching it reminded me of how I was on suicide watch two years ago after seeing us get #5, how far weve come in 2 season.

Anything is possible but I don’t think it is fixed. Sooner or later somebody will get fire and we probably hearing about disgruntle former employees accusing the NBA of rigging the draft.

I felt really nervous about even though I didn't care, I'm conditioned. No surprise that Memphis / OkC got in the top 3, I was very happy they didn't win.
I had some visions of trading expirings for Camby now that Griffin will make a bigger logjam............until I realized that Camby himself is an expiring.

I agree with you MaxwellSmart that the way that they assign the numbers is just terrible. It should be done in a way so that it is completely randomized. Instead if the celtics (or any other team) get all the scenarios that start with 4, and the ball with the 4 on it is weighted wrong (on purpose), that the Celtics would be completely jobbed.
I just don't see how fixing would lead to the Clippers would get the number 1 pick, though. My friend and I had a long discussion on this last night and it is an interesting topic. A team like Cleveland getting Lebron gets the entire state of Ohio to watch the games, when no one would watch them when they have Andre Miller as their star player. Same logic in giving the top 2 picks to Seattle and Portland. People in Boston and other big media markets are going to be watching, because of their huge populations. This just leaves you twisted when you consider that Derrick Rose was picked up by a good sized city.
So, my ultimate conclusion is that they rig it...sometimes.

Watch the 1985 lottery. It looks so bad that it's laughable. If one lottery was fixed, wouldn't the others be fixed as well?
I feel bad for Kings and Wizards fans, but congratulations to the Clippers. I hope Griffin plays up to his potential. It would be fun seeing the Clippers in the Championship one year.

Hey, I'm not saying they fix it EVERY Year....But they have a system in place, where anytime they feel like it-or have a grudge, they CAN fix it.
My Biggest Question Remains:
WHY DO THEY CHANGE THE BALLS--??????

Well, I've always believed that the Lottery was fixed (I remember the creased envelope that David Stern dealt the New York Knicks as he almost said "Here's Ewing!".
But the way I think that billionaires have avoided let their business be run by chance is:
When 4 of the circulating balls are sucked out of visible chamber, they momentarily disappear from sight. When that happens, they disappear into a box, catcher's met, whatever, and the predetermined combo that will send each of the first 3 picks to their NBA destination come flying out of different location, so all in observer sees is a Christmas orb of circulating balls, 4 balls sucked out (that disappear from view), and 4 balls flying into the assigned spots or the magic combination.
Somehow LeBron to Cleveland, Kwame Brown to Washington (first pick at least), and half a dozen others were all called by me in advance. Based on the business needs of the NBA. Statistically, the number of times a long shot (Portland - Oden, Seattle - Kevin Durant) have shot up is ridiculous. Way beyond any normal standard deviation.

Watching the draft lottery is painful as it is. There is nothing less exciting than watching the guy open envelopes and the team representatives grimacing. With commercial breaks every several picks. I think it would be much more exciting to show the ping pong balls being picked live--then adjust the number of combinations that each team still has possible--narrowing it down until the last ball is picked--and showing the winner. Then they start over and do the same thing for the 2nd pick and the 3rd pick.
At least that would make it more like watching a poker tournament than watching a game of duck-duck-goose.

I'm sure they change the balls because they have a set that has been weighed and measured and they keep those locked up to prevent teams from engaging in the kind of tom-foolery you're talking about. Is this a hard concept?
