What kind of pick could we get for Davis?

I'm just asking this because I'm curious, but what do you think we could get for Big Baby pick-wise if we traded him?

Well we got #21 for cash and a future first, so I'd guess we could get that much. He's t least a proven backup C / PF with considerable playoff experience. Maybe late lottery, if we're lucky mid-lottery.

How does trading him work? We would have to resign him and then trade him? Would that could against our MLE? I think not. BUT why would a team trade for him when they could just offer him the MLE? I guess we could say we would match.

Outside of Griffin, the other players in the draft are considered big question marks. I'd rather trade Davis for a veteran if he's going to be traded.

he is worth at least the 51 pick but only if boston pays 1 mil to get it

Trading Davis for a pick would be foolish as it would take 2 years or more for him to contribute - no good, the window has closed.

No free agent is worth much in trade unless his salary value is a lot higher than the MLE.

I don't see how a trade would be a good way to go for Boston. Perhaps a sign and trade this summer, but I would bet my bottom dollar that Davis isn't going to get anywhere near the MLE. This is a summer of frugality. I think Glenn could be had 3 years $12 million. He is a steal for that cash. Certainly we shouldn't pay him more than Perkins.
Danny won't overpay here. I do think we need him for the bench though. Not sure how we could replace him.

How or probably when can Davis become an unresticted FA. That is what he's looking for.

Assuming we don't need to take a contract back in return, a second rounder. Not saying that's what his value is, I'm saying that because it'd have to be in a sign and trade. It's just not available and even if it were, I'd rather keep Davis than what we could get in the draft with a mid first pick, given the uncertainty of Powe's health.

Davis can't be traded before the draft.
Davis can simply take the QO for this season and be an unrestricted FA next season a very plausible scenario. But he already rolled the dice once and he won I think 3 years 12 mil is worth signing if it is offered and no offer sheet is coming. My guess is he gets 3 years 15 mil including some incentives or partial guarantees, trying to gamble that he has the same type of role and production having left that kind of money on the table is a lot of pressure.
One thing to keep in mind when bringing up Perk's deal he really wasn't as good as Davis is now when he signed his contract and it was an extension, he isn't signing for 4-5 mil a year next time.
If you could trade him to another team without the finances being a factor in this draft I think anything later the 25 would be easy, maybe a couple of spots higher.

Powe's knee surgery probably made BBD's next deal a whole lot larger, both from the added playing time that he got in the playoffs, and because the Celtics are more likely to pay the $$ due to the depleted front line.

^^ I doubt it. C's will play hard ball with Davis IMHO. Danny said we needed help on the front line. The help we had was Davis. You do the math...
For all the raving about Davis in the playoffs I thought Posey was much better. Alot more clutch.. If Davis gets a Posey like offer - cya latah.

well of course Posey is a much better player then Davis.
Davis became a consistent shooter, Posey is an always on clutch 3 point shooter. And I'd take my chances on Posey in the post and rebounding just as much as I would with Davis. Although Davis can hang with centers and Posey only with weak 4s [which there are a lot of in the NBA these days].

food for thought on aquiring picks:
http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonath ... ay-20-3224A few teams that are rumored to be looking to trade or sell their picks are the Oklahoma City Thunder (#25), Minnesota Timberwolves (#28) and New Orleans Hornets (#21).

Perk had a lot more upside.

If Danny can acquire picks for cash he has to do it (but please, no more under sized swing men).

The catch-22 with drating undersized bigmen is that you get a player better than the position where he is drafted but you end up with an undersized bigman.
