Long backup SF

With the Knicks wanting to go into 2010 with as much salary cap space as possible, why not offer them some cap relief for a player that probably isn't in their future plans?

TA and Scal for Jared Jefferies would give us a long backup to Pierce and also an athletic tall PF when we play teams like Orlando. Give me your thoughts on this.

Jeffries really hasn't been all that effective while in New York. He also can't shoot very well so that goes against the need of a backup 2-3 who can defend and shoot. I personally would not be in favor of this deal.

Jeffries is one of the worst shooters in the league! And his contract is horrible! There is zero chance we trade for him...

But I do agree that we need a long SF though there aren`t many in the league...

I would be interested in Jamario Moon...He has turned into a very decent player...

Ya, there really aren't too many good SF options around.

There's Kapono who's listed as a SF but plays like a SG with no defense. But he can at least spread the floor.

Then there is Nocioni who's a bit slow of foot at the 3 and his contract is pretty bad.

I can't think of any others.

Looking for a Turkoglu killer? Hey, Semih Erden has plenty of length.

The problem with trading for a long SF is that it's become such a position of need, especially in the East with guarding Lebron, that you're not going to get fair value out of a trade, unless it was a team that that was abundant with them, like Portland. This is relation to the Moon comment. Yeah, Miami has a few holes, but one of their strengths is that they match up well against Cleveland with Moon in there. Jeffries? No thanks. If we're going to take a bad contract, at least make it someone like Nocioni, who probably could be had for a similar package including TA, Scal, and filler/prospects.

Otherwise, our only other opportunities are going to come by in free agency.

I think Danny tells Doc to play Walker and he'd already have his backup SF. He was in a perfect position to develop him this year but he waited to long to give him a shot at the rotation and by that time we needed Pierce 40 minutes a night to stay the #2 seed.

Matt Barnes or Nocioni are my top two. Barnes is athletic, long and can shoot. Nocioni can defend 3/4's and shoot. Both are good defenders as well.

Really love the idea of Barnes. Pissed me off when we let him go to Phoenix for cheap last year. Proven player, can guard the wing at least and will come at a cheap price. Also wouldn't demand too many minutes, so we could either give him full reign at the backup 3 or try to platoon him in some sets for Bill Walker to get him more PT.

Same here. Jefferies is not that good. I wanted Barned last season after we lost Posey. Nocioni is a good player as well. We need guys that can play off the bench and he rotation guys when its playoff time. Barnes or Nocioni are what we need along with McDyess or Zaza.

I like Nocioni but his contract is too big for...

Maybe we should just go with Grant Hill. Not really a defender or a 3 point shooter but you know he would help...

tayshaun prince would be great on our team but I'm sure there's no way we can get him. there was this guy named Posey who fit the bill pretty well. Whatever happened to him? As it stands now, Wyc and CO are going to have to go over the cap to keep this team in the hunt; that's why not signing Posey was so stupid because we're right there anyhow in terms of going over the cap. sure, posey would have sucked before his contract was up but in the meantime you would have kept your top 6 players together for the window of opportunity. we'd probably still be playing if we had kept posey. He could have defended turkolu and lewis plus hit clutch 3's and fts.

Boris Diaw. Charlotte could be players in 2010 if they move Diaw.

I like Boris a lot and now that he is a very capable shooter, I'd be really interested in him as well.

we're no longer a team that can get players to come cheaply because we're the world champs. Orlando , Cleveland, LA and Denver all look more attractive now to free agents so Danny and WYc can't lowball a player if they really want him. Pierce and allen need help. It was very clear from watching the playoffs that the days of them carrying a team are over. Rondo, Perk and Baby all played more consistent bball than Pierce and Ray. we're still a championship caliber team if KG is healthy but without an injection of talent we'll get knocked out in the first or second round again next year

You, of course, realize that Nocioni is a 3 point shooting undersized PF who, when played at SF, records fouls at lightspeed trying to unsuccessfully defend quicker players, which he does by colliding with them to slow up their forward progress, but also resulting in another foul.

At PF, he's undersized on the block. So, aside from his aggressiveness, his strongest assets are 3 point shooting ability (can spread the floor), not afraid to crash the boards, not afraid to box out, not afraid to bang, plays with passion. For all those admirable qualities, the man is not worth $7 million per year.
