OT: "Source says Marbury could land with Wizards"

Maybe work a trade for Crittenton and JaVale McGee or Blatche.
Stephon Marbury's up and down (and down some more) playoff run with the Boston Celtics probably won't result in a lucrative contract next season but there is one team that could have interest in the former Knicks guard.
Marbury, according to a source, was contacting Flip Saunders almost on a daily basis during the postseason and there is a chance that Marbury could be reunited with his first professional coach (okay, second after Bobby Cremins) next season.
Saunders is now the head coach of the Washington Wizards and would strongly considering adding Marbury to the roster if there is a vacancy. The biggest hurdle for Marbury is that Mike James and Javaris Crittenton are both under contract.
Ernie Grunfeld was a big Marbury fan when Ernie ran the Knicks. He tried to get him the year that Marbury was traded to the Nets. Instead of Marbury the Knicks made a deal the same day for Mirsad Turkcan.

Why would a trade need to be worked out? Marbury is an unrestricted free agent.

Perhaps winning basketball games was a shock to his system, and he wants to go back to his roots. You know, playing for a team that sucks and has the courtesy to not delay his summer vacation with anything as meaningless as playoff games.
Steph, what the heck are you thinking?

After his good behavior with us last season, I'm not suprised someone would consider bringing him in to contribute. The Wizards are one of those "good lottery-teams" where the addition of Marbs, a high pick, and an injury free season may be all they need to get back on track in the East....however, they will not be a championship contender.
Marbury helped us a little bit last year, but while he definetly had PLENTY of opportunities to make a difference, I still feel that we was just OK. That said, Id rather HAVE Marbury than NO Marbury. I guess this is an example of Doc's comment regards to "addressing the point guard situation".

I'd really love to bring Marbury back. A full year with the team would do wonders for him. We can't just keep rotating our backup point guard or we're going to keep having struggles when we do bring someone in like we had with Cassell and Marbury.

I doubt Washington's open to trading Blatche, but McGee could be an option for the right offer. And Crittenton can't seem to find a home.
I wonder what Washington feel they need. With Marbury, Arenas and James, they're set at point guard. They're set at shooting guard too with Stevenson and Young. But, it gets interesting at center. They don't need Tony and probably wouldn't have an interest in Davis. They've depth at power forward. On second thought, McGee's likely unrealistic. But, Ainge can probably acquire Crittenton if he were interested in him.
Haywood (expiring contract)
Thomas (apparently, he can opt out)
Blatche
McGee

"bump"
People need to realize UFA's are UFA's, and we shouldn't expect to get something for them when we don't resign them, instead of coming up with ridiculous sign and trade scenarios.
I remember when people said we didn't get enough for Antoine when he went to Miami - WTF, he was an UFA we didn't want to re-sign!

A Marbury and Arenas backcourt could be interesting.

Good for him. But if he goes there, we should get nothing. He's a UFA, why would anyone in their right mind trade one of those 3 for a Free Agent. Maybe if they get a pick out of it too... but nah. Just sign the guy.

You mean interesting in a way Francis & Marbury had been interesting to watch?

The article just says that he could. It in no way says he wants to.
I HIGHLY doubt he would sign with the Wizards as much as I would like to see him starting.

Hey I wish him well but honestly I think he would be better off with the wizards than us. He was a model citizen with us but he wants to start and he never adjusted to being a bench player. He's a guy that needs minutes to put up the numbers he wants to put up and he's not going to that in Boston. I'd rather spend the money on someone who knows their role and accepts it. I haven't given up on Pruitt yet but I'm close. Tony allen is as good as gone so clearly we're going to need another guard.

I don't know if your comments are directed at me, but I wasn't saying that Washington owes Boston if Marburby should sign with them. The article states that the Wizards already have reserve point guards James and Crittenton under contract. I'd bold faced that point. I'm simply making the suggestion that Ainge could inquire about Crittenton if Washington were to decide that they need to make room for Marburby's signing.
I know it isn't a done deal nor did I say that he's definitely going to sign there. I'm only looking at it from Boston's standpoint. That is, can Ainge make a deal out of otherwise nothing? Maybe acquire a big man too. I don't know, it was an idea...

No, not directed at you. Just the sign and trade part of the NBA can kind of irk me.

OK, I see.
Yeah, imagine Boston doing a sign-and-trade of Marbury. He isn't in that much demand.

You can do a S&T of Marbury (if its doable) maybe a late draft pick to the Wizards for one of their decent bigs (DeShawn Stevenson) and a draft pick. If it works under the salary cap. Or get an expiring big if they have one. You would get a better big than Big Baby.
