It has been reported that Portland would be willing to sell the 24th pick in the draft to the highest bidder, well the Celtics should be the highest bidder

one of the things that this team could desperately use is an injection of youth, and from the looks of it giddens, pruitt, and walker aren't going to get the job done anytime soon, so why not go after a late first round pick, it worked with rajon rondo

the celtics need a backup small forward, center, and point guard why not trying to fill one of the voids through the draft

take a high potential guy and let him play early next year, worst case scenario he proves to be too young and too raw, but now you still have a high potential guy to package in a trade with the expiring contracts you have

whether you get a guy that can help you or not your only gonna better yourself buy buying into the 1st round

If there is someone at 24 who Danny is in love with (like he was with Rondo) then I can promise you he will make in inquiry about purchasing that pick. The going rate for a late first rounder is $3mil right?

if young can defend and play the three he would be good, if a guy like terrance williams, bj mullins, earl clarke, or austin daye fell to 24 i would look strongly at them and even a guy like chase budinger would be an excellent pickup for this club

3 mil is the maximum amount of cash you can give in a trade...

We can also decide to trade with them in their 5 minutes during the draft day if we see someone we wanted that is still on the board (as long as they won't sell it to anyone else before that...)...

I would only do it if you were convinced that someone is top 4-5 caliber within that draft. Rondo is a good example since I remember quite a few people being really high on Rondo. He won't drop to 24 but Ty Lawson is a guy whose negative buzz is surprising to me.

THere's not a player in the draft that can help us win in the next two years. When we traded out and back in for Rondo (remember, Danny would have taken him instead of Brandon Roy if we had stayed at 6), we were a rebuilding team. Doc and Danny want to win now, and any player drafted this year will have his butt glued to the bench for the next two years.

That may be but we could get a guy that could net us some trade value to go along with our expiring contracts

A couple of second rounders in Powe and Davis managed to provide an impact in their first two years, it's not a stretch to think a first rounder could do the same.

DaJuan Summers could be a candidate late in the first round for the backup small forward spot.

If they had to borrow money from the league, I don't think it's realistic that they're going to spend $3 million on a draft pick. They may trade expirings for a player Ainge likes and a draft pick but I don't see them doing anything else. I'm also surprised Portland of all teams would look to sell. Don't they have the richest owner in the league?

Rivers won't play him much as a rookie. He'll stay with a set rotation. This rookie would've to be outstanding to get serious minutes.

If this does happen I dont think it makes sense to gamble on another backup small forward, if they roll the dice on a big man id be all for it.

I think doc would be all for playing a rookie, as long as he defend and provide something valuable on the offensive end. I think Bill Walker would have got a lot of minutes last year if he would have had a reliable outside shot, or any outside shot to speak of.

Also there are small forwards in this draft that fit the james posey mold better than giddens or walker do. First giddens is only 6'5 and walker is only 6'6 tops, and neither have shown the ability to defend and shoot the three, so i would be all for drafting a small forward and getting rid of JR or Bill

Even with spending the three million to buy the pick, and the 1 mil it takes to sign them it wouldn't cost as much as paying a free agent 3 to 4 mil and paying the luxury tax, so it could be quite possible

also they only have a certain amount of money to give to free agents, so this could be a viable way to go to improve the team, wyc did say they were willing to open there wallets and spend to improve the team this offseason

And who knows what the money was for and why it was taken, i wouldnt think that situation has any bearing on our offseason moves, though it might, who knows

I like Young too (he killed my Huskies this year) but he's 6'5" tops.

I really like BJ Mullins. With his size and athleticism, even though it is a touch of a concern he did not play better as a frosh, I think his upside is tremendous.

Don't be surprised as well if Ainge wants Hansbrough. He is ready to contribute should we let Baby walk, and in fact reminds me a lot of Powe/Boozer coming out of Cal/Duke, in that all are a tad undersized, all were college vets, winners, and leaders, and all were very productive.

Sam Young at 24 works. I like Damion James of Texas as well.

I would not be shocked to see Danny take a high school player a la perkins or jefferson . He did wellwith both those picks and maybe there's a young guy out there with a lot of athletic talent who just isn't ready but could be developed. If there's a guy like that Danny might try and move up. Unless you're picking in the top 5 in this draft I really don't see anyone who is going to come in and make an immediate impact on our team so I'm not looking to the draft as a solution to our bench woes
