Celts need to acquire a true Center and keep Marbury
If the Celts want to win next season, they have to acquire a true center to back up Perkins. The reason why they lost is because they were unable to get any type of production out of Micky Moore. Find a true 7' that can defend and athletic, keep Marbury to backup Rondo and hope that KG remains healthy for a full season. They will also need to develop a SF/SG, big enough to back up Pierce, because dude won't be able to play as many minutes as he has been playing next season.
Find a way to acquire Darko Milici and Antoine Wright to bolster the bench, because right now, the bench is way too small.

Re: Celts need to acquire a true Center and keep Marbury
The reason they lost was because two of the top six players on our team were injured and happen to share the same position. Yet even still if Ray Allen's hamstring doesn't get tweaked we might have stolen that series from the Magic.
Getting a backup C is important but come playoff time KG will play 38-40 minutes instead of 31-33 minutes with those extra minutes coming at C.
I'd like to see them sign Chris Anderson also wanted that last year for that matter so that KG can play all his minutes at PF but it's not likely.

Anderson is not going anywhere. Thus, the Celts need to set their sight on a player like Milicic. He is long and can fit in Doc's system. He is a shot blocker and a decent rebounder.

Millic isn't even an option here. He hasn't earned that contract in Memphis he sure as hell isn't worth the 15 million he'd cost the Celtics between his salary and the luxury tax. We'll either spend real money on a Sheed, Dice, Varejao, etc or try and get a Magloire type for the veteran minimum.
If the Celtics take on a larger then MLE contract it'll be for a high quality player not a maybe some day he'll get it guy like Darko Millic. He may be on the radar after next year at around 1.5 to 2 million if we still have a need.

How about Kaman or Camby from the Clippers for Ray?

Milicic sucks.
So does Marbury, though if he takes the vet min I can't complain.
and there is no frigging way in hell we trade Ray for some injured/mediocre centers like Kaman or Camby so they can back up Perk.
LMAO, where do these people come from???

Re: Celts need to acquire a true Center and keep Marbury
We need backups at the 5, 3 (preferably with the ability to also play some 2), and 1.
The only reason our needs are that limited is because we have a bunch of other players.
E.g.,
We only need 1 more backup center, because each of KG and Davis can play effective center against different kinds of matchups.
We're sort of OK at SG because we have Allen and House.
I agree that given limited resources, the best outcome at PG is that Marbury plays for bubkus.

I would think this summer might be when Ainge takes his shot at Robert Swift. He could be had for next to nothing right now and we all know Danny has an interest in him. If healthy he is very much in the mold of Perkins as a player and could be a solid backup.

I also think that unless Marbury gets a bigger offer or offered a chance to start that he will indeed return here. I think a full training camp on top of his time already spent working off the rust and learning the system would be enough to get him productive again.
Unless we make a deal in the draft for a Patrick Mills i'm expecting Marbury back here.

What about Kwame Brown? He's a defensive big, who played decently in a back-up role for the Lakers and for the Pistons at times. He only has a year left on his contract and he makes about as much money as Tony Allen. I'd rather have him than R.Swift.
Brown for T.Allen + 2nd round pick or some other sweetener.

I would rather take a flier on Swift than Kwame Brown if Ainge can't sign McDyess. Swift's issue is staying healthy, it isn't so much about his ability to play center. When he did play, he wasn't bad. He even was starting for Seattle at one time in his second season I believe.

Honestly, i'd be interested in singing and trading Davis for someone like a Stro Swift or Steven Hunter.

Another thing to keep in mind... Ask yourself, which UFA center or forward/center is better than Moore? Or who would I sign over resigning Moore?
Pachulia > Moore
Joe Smith > Moore
Andersen > Moore
McDyess > Moore
Rasheed Wallace > Moore
Nesterovic > Moore
Ely > Moore
Swift > Moore
Ratliff > Moore
Magloire ? Moore
Shelden Williams ? Moore
Foyle ? Moore
LaFrentz ? Moore
Booth ? Moore
Voskuhl ? Moore
Jarron Collins ? Moore

Re: Celts need to acquire a true Center and keep Marbury
I think that Danny and company have a hard on for McDyess at the very least we know that Ainge has always loved him and tried to sign him twice now since coming to Boston. I think it also gives him a way out from getting stuck paying Glen Davis for some solid but overrated play late this year.
Seriously I can't picture Danny being to thrilled with the idea of dropping a nice longterm contract on Davis with his weight problems and his Mark Blount type rebounding totals.
I think Danny Ainge is smart enough to understand that its a smaller risk to pay McDyess more money for 2 years then it is to give Davis a locked in contract and watch him get fatter.
I like Glen Davis myself but a 6'7 285 lbs PF/C who can't rebound and scores mostly off open jumpers is not a guy you pay real money to have. On a rookie deal or at around the veteran minimum there is no downside but when you're talking 4/5 years in the 12-15 million range he really has no upside and its all risk.
I think its possible that they go after everybody from Millsap, Sheed, Odom or Dice with that money but that Danny's realistically expecting to pull off signing Dice.

That guy should be Sheed. Sheed defends Howard very well. Still can post up periodically and will extend the floor (something missing off the bench since Posey left- besides House)
