http://www.hoopsworld.com/HeadlineStori ... TORY_19356Cost cutting?....Expiring deals in Scal and TA enough?....or does Lee expect to make 10 Mil or more?.....He'd be the PERFECT big man for us....reminds me of Dave Cowens.

Nope, we can't get him. I think Phoenix will snatch him up. D'antoni wants one of his bed buddies back.

Only if Ray Allen is involved. Other than that, no chance in hell.

The question is why sould we get him?
We already have Garnett and Perkins as our starting front line, and you dont pay as much as lee wants for a backup. If we give Ray for him we need to spend more for a SG and we won't have cap space because our backup PF/C takes 10 mil per year...
We all know what we need, backups. a PG, a SF, a PF (hopefully baby), a C...

He's a good player, but doesn't particularly fit our needs; I guess he would be a nice replacement for Powe.
It will take a strange combination of assets to get him from the next; presumably expirings + draft picks; expirings + a cheap young promising player; or expirings + taking on Eddy Curry or something similarly bad.
I suppose we could do Ray for Lee + Curry, but that would be an awful move for us. We could do Scal/Giddens/TA + a draft pick I suppose, or maybe they'd bite if we threw in Walker. Still, I don't think it would help us that much. He's good but we need length.

Lee is a very decent player but is sort of like a very poor man's KG. He won't be taking a discount to play for a winner and is not the type of guy that has unbelievable upide. I'd pass, myself...

I don't want Lee. All he can do is rebound and has a extremely limited offensive game. Powe would give us more production for less.

Not to be cold about it but people need to stop talking about Leon like he is in play this offseason. Last I heard he had microfracture surgery has anyone comeback from this in less than a year? It is sad but I don't think off season plans can involve the guy.
I would rather Lee than Davis, at least I think I would. But I don't want him twice as bad if you know what I mean I wouldn't give double the money to do the same job. Lee is going to want a starting job and starter money.
Don't get too caught up in what the Knick's want in a S&T it doesn't really work that way, because Lee has to agree to the deal. If they are looking for expiring deals then they can hope to get a 1st round pick but may have to settle for a 2nd and maybe a useful player on an expiring contract. Walsh is very difficult to deal with in these situations as well, it can take him months to accept what is obvious to most reasonable people.

No Powe would not give us more production. This is a guy coming off a serious knee injury. While I agree with you in the lack of wanting Lee, his much better offensively than you are giving him credit for.

Anyone who thinks Powe is better than Lee is crazy. I like Leon a LOT, but Lee, from what I saw/read of him this season, was more productive than Leon...

Don't forget, the Knicks have to agree to the deal too. They don't have to settle for anything, they can just let him go to a team with cap space, rather than bothering with a sign-and-trade to a team over the cap. A 2nd round pick and a body isn't necessarily worth the trouble. They can always just let him walk. And obviously, adding an expiring contract is no different than not adding anything at all, as far as 2010 is concerned.

first, i'll give credit where credit is due. David Lee is a good to great rebounder.
now, on to the rest of this loser's game. David Lee plays absolutely NO defense. KG would rip this soft piece of crap up after 1 week of seeing him lost on rotations and the pick and roll. Lee defends each game like its the first game he has ever played. After watching him a few years now, my opinion is its not really because of a lack of effort- he just doesn't understand where to be. If he doesn't get it after this long, im not sure he ever will.
Let some other team pay this loser 10 + million a year for his good numbers because players like him all the same- good numbers on a bad team, but will never help a championship ready squad.
and for the record, considering Davis will likely cost 1/2 of what Lee will, i rather keep Davis.
side note:
when he came into this league, people said he a good J. 35.2% EFG on his jump shots last year.

Lee was second in double doubles this season. So yeah, I think he was much more productive than Powe.

Exactly, Leon might be my favorite Celtic but even Id trade him in a heartbeat for D Lee. We have no chance at Lee though

Leon used to give David Lee the business. He is a below average defender and doesn't play with Leon Powe's heart. Three knee injuries later though, it is going to be tough for Powe to come back from. I think a healthy Leon like we saw before the injury would be as good as David Lee. Powe was starting to drop 20+ a night. He takes charges like I have never seen. I would take a healthy Leon over Lee especially when you factor in salaries. For the price Lee is not 8-9million better than Leon. With the injuries though there is no comparison.
I like Lee but he is one of those borderline guys that commands big money but is not all-star caliber. You need true all-stars to win the chip and not 10million/yr starters that are good but not all-stars.

^dude, Leon was **** horrid the second half of the season BEFORE his knee injury...Baby had 100% supplanted him and Leon's D is still very suspect...
I like Leon, don't get me wrong, but he's never going to be anything more than a 7th or 8th man in the NBA...
