The improvement of Trevor Ariza in the last couple of years made me wonder who some other low salary little known prospect on other teams are that we could trade for and could develop into solid role players in a season or two. LA got Ariza for Brian Cook and Evans...


One guy who I think resembles Ariza is Julian Wright from NO. He is exactly what we need at back up SF, IMO. He has the length, he can`t really shoot but neither did Ariza two seasons ago.

Another player I think we could get on the cheap is Belinelli. He was almost traded for Joey Graham, so they don`t think much of him in GS. He is a superb shooter and would be perfect for this team off the bench, IMO.

I also like Anthony Morrow. He is a phenomenal shooter. I don`t think GS is interested in trading him because of his low salary but you never know. I believe he can develop into a very solid contributer off the bench.

Mardy Collins. I never liked Collins until I watched him shut down Paul Pierce when we played the clippers. He is only 6`6 but a very good defender that can possibly cover three positions.

Rodney Carney. I thought he really came into his own this season. I doubt MIN is interested in trading him but maybe down the line somewhere he might become available...

Josh Boone. I think he can develop into a solid defender and rebounder. Horrible on offense but he has the height and robustness for a big man.

Rasual Butler. The forgotten man on NO. Don`t really see NO being interested in trading him but if they want to get rid of some salary he might be included in a deal as a sweetener. Has very good height for a SG, good outside shooter.

Damien Wilkins. I think he is a decent player. Doesn`t get minutes in OKC but he had stretches in his career when he played like a starter.

Jared Dudley. Reminds me of Gomes. They like him in PHO and is another player who looked like a throw-in in the CHA-PHO trade but showed he can be a nice role player.

Louis Amundson. Nice, cheap energy big off the bench. Nothing special but it can`t hurt to have him at the end off the bench.

Channing Frye. Jump shooting big man. Showed promise in his rookie year but hasn`t shown much in POR.

Dominic McGuire. Don`t see any chance of WAS trading him but I love his length and defense for the SF position. If WAS makes some trades he might become available...

Renaldo Balkman. Didn`t play much in the playoffs for DEN but is another guy who brings energy off the bench. Has nice height for a SF, solid defender, poor offensive player...

Steve Novak. Phenomenal shooter at 6-10. Would be great having him as a PF who can spread the floor.

Now, I am not saying these guys are even available now but if the chance arises in the future I think we should look into acquiring some of them if they can be had on the cheap. Sometimes small trades that no one thinks much of them can have a big impact and we have the flexibility with our expiring contracts now to potentially make a small "steal trade" this season....

What are some other "low salary less known potential future solid role players or more" on other teams that you like and would be interested in trading for them?

I don't think Doc would agree with you on this list (while I like the possibility to get Wright or Belinelli for cheap), as he pointed out the young lockerroom and the missing veteran influence on the bench.

Julian Wright (who could flourish in a faster system with better ballsharing) and Belinelli might pan out though. But are the Celtics the right place for them? Don't we need tested vets?

Rasual Butler is a possibility, but not an "impact player" enough to trade for. Morrow won't be traded for our assets and the other guys are questionable for a spot from 6 to 9 in the rotation.

I would like to bring in guys who maybe in a season or two could develop from a 10-12th guy on a roster to a 6th man or even potential starter...

Sure we need good veterans for our bench but there are some guys with 2-3 seasons of experience who in the right situation and in the right system could break out...

We would all like good proven players but the fact is we can not afford them and that is why we need to find guys on the cheap with potential to be solid players...

Carney is a free agent the celtics could probably sign him for cheap if they want him

the problem is we have to clear the guys that should have no chance to play for us (tony, gabe, giddens, and walker) before we can make these kind of deals

FWIW, love the post brother man, and these are the names that have been floating around my head as well, but I just don't see us ever making a trade to acquire an unproven, albeit up-and-coming prospect. Also, I have a bill simmons level man-crush on Julian Wright, and I completely feel that NO made a horrible decision on Posey simply because it pushed this kid to the pine. He was beasting during his postseason minutes 2 years ago, I loved his last year of college, and I was all about drafting him w/ the RayRay trade pick. I've actually been pondering this trade in my head for most of the offseason knowing it would never happen: Ray for Tyson chandler, Rasual Butler, and Julian Wright. I love the idea of rocking:

PG - Rondo
SG - Butler/House
SF - Pierce/Wright
PF - Garnet/Chandler/Wright
C - Perkins/Chandler

Sign the best 1/2 we can with the MLE and we have a solid 9 man rotation for the playoffs. Our defense, height, and athleticism is improved greatly, Garnet/Perkins/Chandler is one hell of a front line, and Rondo can finally run his alley-oops to another player. Wright is our big 3/small 4 we've been looking for, and I think Butler could manage his role. Do or die, I'm still not sure if I make this trade knowing how clutch and hof-erish ray is, but it's a tough decision.

***This trade does not look near as appetizing if you do not share my love for Julian Wright's game, I know this!

For NO, they might demand that Rasual be swapped for MoPete because of the inclusion of wright, but a Paul/Ray/Peja/West/Armstrong 6th - Posey unit has some potential.

Let's get Balkman.

Balkman's a mystery as his minutes have progressively declined each year, and I'm not sure he could possibly work with Rondo and Perkins already here. As for his availability, Denver has some work to do. Birdman, Kleiza, Dahntay Jones, and Anthony Carter or another veteran backup point need to all be addressed first. If they are all retained, he should come cheap, but it's my impression that we're focusing on the wrong nuggets. Dahntay Jones is everything we thought Tony Allen should be, except with a brain and 3pt range that has yet to be fully shown/developed, and also I've been a pretty big Kleiza fan. Let's hope Birdman gets over paid to stay in denver and they pursue a pricier, better backup to billups, and one of Jones/Kleiza/Balkmann should definitely be available for the taking should ainge be interested.

I'm confident Dahntay Jones is ready to become the 2/3 version of Matt Barnes, and Kleiza is a rich man's vealchops and a cheap/similar alternative to Tim Thomas and Nocioni

Balkman's minutes have not really gone down, but he would be a nice addition. I was never a big fan of Isah Thomas, but he could spot talent and Balkman has some. He would be an upgrage over TA.

Sean Williams is another young guy who could be had for cheap, never know... between Clifford Ray, KG and Perk he could be a defensive monster

or continue to be a waste of talent

The only guys this team needs to sign are ones who can play next year. Not the year after, or the year after that. Next year.

Balkman would be great (good hustle, good D, decent production for the minute PT is partially a casualty of playing for George Karl). I also like Julian Wright (solid defender right now, talented, young, SF/PF, Hornets are paying 12 mil to Posey/MoPete) and to a lesser extent Josh Boone (solid front court depth and could be available for cheap). I will add Dorrell Wright to the mix as well - undervalued coming off of knee surgery, comparisons to T-Mac in high school, purportedly sparked DA's interest pre-draft years back...if you go back to '06-07 a respectable defender for his young age, good rebounder, a little TO prone but he corrected that by '07-08 and showed improvement before going down to injury.

Any of those guys could have some role on this team. The only one I'd shy away from is Novak, but mostly because I don't like that kind of game.

There are a lot of fans who say we only need players who can help us next season. I would say pretty much all of these players would crack the rotation and be an upgrade over TA, Moore, Walker, Pruitt, Scal...

I guess two season ago not many people would trade for Ariza. Or give up 2 second rounders for JR Smith...

I wonder what Collins and Novak would cost the Celtics? I would assume more than they would be willing to play, but I would like the addition of both of those guys to the bench. Good list.

We need someone who we can put on Lebron in playoffs(at leats for a few minutes), someone who could stay with Lewis..long sf with good length

It depends on if you actually watch basketball. Anyone who had watched those two in New York and NO would have known they were good players.
