hoopshype has an article from the memphis commercial appeal talking about the celtics have approached the grizz about the 2nd overall pick in the draft... it seems in order for that trade to happen an established nba player needs to be involved (possibly ray ray ????) what do you think danny has up his sleeve?????

I threw out there previously that we should approach the Wiz about pick number 5... So I would definitely be happy with the number 2 pick...

Lets say hypothetically it happens... what would you do with the pick ???

This rumor is strange. The Celtics traded a top pick (#5) to get Ray Allen to please Pierce (who didn't want another young player) and to get KG to come to the Celtics. Now they are going to trade Ray and/or Rondo for the 2nd pick. Doesn't make any sense.

Pierce and KG would flip out.

Grizz should be far enough under the cap for 09-10 where the 125% + 100K rule shouldn't apply. We'd be able to trade Ray for the #2 and even take back a contract they don't want (Jaric? Buckner?). But with Conley and Mayo in place, why does Memphis want Ray? Can't see why MEM does this to acquire a SG. If they could get a frontcourt player for the #2, that makes sense for them (only Warrick, Gasol, Darko and Arthur under contract.)

Also I'd have to think this only happens if Danny wants Rubio - can Rubio and Rondo play together in the backcourt? That sounds like a disaster. Would acquiring Rubio mean Rondo is moving elsewhere?

I just can't see all the pieces falling into place for a deal for the #2 pick...

Ray's name wasn't mentioned in the article, that was just my speculation when it said that an established NBA player would be needed to make that deal possible...

Rondo is the only player that makes sense for the Grizz. It's early, but it's starting to look like we're shopping the kid.

Boston being mentioned had me scratching my head. Y'all have a fantastic team - but it's a vet team with pieces that I just don't see fitting in with the Grizz. Davis would be the closest, but he's a UFA and doesn't (in my mind) warrant the second pick. Whatever the case, the next 2+ weeks are going to be very, very interesting for those of us that follow the Grizzlies.

hmmm....I think if Rondo we in this draft, he would have a shot at being picked second overall. Im sure Rondo is the main piece on our end...All and all the only thing im sure of is that Danny has been busy!

Rondo for the #2 and Warrick??? Rondo's the only guy on our team that we could offer that would keep Memphis on the phone.

Maybe Danny thinks Rubio is legit.

But seriously, I am sure Ainge and Wallace talk frequently so it may have been more of a passing inquiry as to what it would take for the 2nd pick. If he has interest in Rubio it might signal trading Rondo while his value is still high.

I'd consider Rondo and Perkins "established" NBA talents at this point too -- so if the Grizzlies aren't sold on Mike Conley...

Trading Rondo for the rights to a foreign rookie PG is a disaster. This is a Chris Wallace move. Danny Ainge would be out Wallaced by the man himself.

Rondo would make most sense for Memphis, but I don't see how it makes sense for us. Even if we are high on Rubio and think that he'll be better then Rondo in the future, there's no way he is going to be the better player in the next 2-3 years and that's the time we are contending for another championship.

A trade that would make some sense for us (but not much for Memphis) is Ray Allen + throw ins (Walker/Giddens/Pruitt/Cash/future pick) for 2nd pick + Jaric. So we probably select James Harden to replace Allen and also have a large trade exception to acquire another piece.

I think it's just the Griz trying to set a price and test the market for their pick. Rondo's a prime young player who had already been rumored to be available, and surely Danny and Chris have been talking anyway--but I don't see the C's making that deal at all.

Doesn`t make much sense. Unless it is Rondo for 2nd pick but I don`t like it for us...

If Doc and Danny are down on Rondo for his non jumpshot, his late shows to playoff games, and almost disappearance after the Chicago series, why the hell would they want to give him a crazy contract extension? People act as if Rondo is HOF bound already, but Orlando mainly beat us because they completely ditched Rondo in their defensive scheme.

You can win a championship with an inexperienced point guard, though Rubio has experience. I am not that familiar with his game, but he led Spain (as point guard, not necessarily as THE leader) to an unbelievable Olympics. Danny might see his game translating well.

Rubio has more experience than Rondo professionally.

Anyhow, I would think this isn't for Rubio but for Thabeet. You don't trade up for a foreign guard. Perhaps they are eying Thabeet or James Harden with this pick.

what are you people suggesting with the RayRay for maybe Jaric deal, memphis doesn't have anyone close to Allen's salary, and it would take us eating Jaric, Milicic's, and Greg Buckner's contracts to trade ray to them. For a team that gave away gasol to save money, I actually think this is a realistic option for a franchise that might be bleeding financially, the other possibility would be Rondo/Allen/Allen for the same crapfest of contracts but memphis throws in Conley as well.

I dunno, Ainge has said repeatedly that once you find your lebron/kobe/wade business is easy, and we know how much he values top five picks (see failed pierce for chris paul/nick van exel trade) so this is a move he might make, but I can't imagine he feels that way about James Harden, Thabeet, or Jordan Hill... gross.

I really see Danny, and I think he is enamored by these F.A. PG's. Iverson, Kidd, who knows which one he wants, but if they trade rondo for rubio, and sign iverson, it gives them a good point guard for the future, and Ainge gets his vet PG.

I don't know, I can't say I expected all these rumors this early, my head is starting to spin.

I got some news for you.... Rubio's big glaring weakness is the same as Rondos....he can't shoot.

I think they need to sweeten the pot on a rondo for Rubio deal, may rondo/veal/tony for Darko. We all know darko's limitations, but I think he could be a poor mans perkules for us, and finally gives us a 7fter, looking at that roster though, memphis has a ton of work to do and the wrong man at the helm.

I can't see Rondo/Conley coexisting which also makes no sense to me

I would vomit if we traded Rondo for the 2nd pick but I'd commit suicide if we selected Thabeet with that pick.
