Marion would be a good pickup

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 1:10 pm

I'd like to sign Marion to a 1 yr deal. Why would he do it you might ponder? Well he'd be playing with a title contender and have a chance at boosting his value.

I definitely think Marion is a possibility if we trade Ray.

I doubt any of the teams with cap room are going to give this guy more than the MLE, so I definitely think he will be fair game for us this offseason...but only for a starting role.

Especially since he hasn't looked that good after being traded from Phoenix. I don't, but many people might feel he looked better then he is because of Steve Nash.

If we could sign him I'd be all for moving Ray as 6th man, and let him start. Paul would own shooting guards all around the league..and Ray would win 6th man easily..

I think he'd rather take the MLE on a team that suits him more, that'll make him look better and give him a significant role. He's said before that he wanted to be the man on a team, part of the reason he got traded out of Pheonix, and I doubt he's changed that to 'I'd take less to play for a contender'. He'd be a great pickup, but I just don't see it happening.

Marion is OK. I'm not the biggest fan of getting him because he would play the two positions on our team that a better player already plays. SF and PF. what's he going to play, the 2? he can't handle the ball well enough for that.

If we're going to make trades, I'd rather turn Ray Allen into Ben Gordon, or something of the sort that would extend our window.

this goes along with my thinking. It all would hinge on Ray though. I seriously doubt he would be a malcontent like Iverson... but Ray is obsessive compulsive and he has been a starter his entire carreer. Then again,Ray could be traded. I cant really think of a team that will offer Marion more then the mle and he knows that Danny and Doc both like him. They proved this when they went to Phx and try to persuade him to come here before the Ray Allen deal. It would be Rondo to Marion alley oops all day. And before anyone brings up that Marion nixed a trade to Boston back in 07. This was back before we made then Allen and KG deals and coming off a 24 win season. What more could Marion want? He would probally looking at a 4 year deal. He would be a main peice playing for a contender and he would be playing for a coach and gm that want him here.

I think the talk of Marion wanting to be 'the man' on a team is overblown. He wanted out of PHX because he got tired of hearing his name in trade rumors and no talk of an extension. Link to an article from the Arizona Republic http://www.thisisjuststupid.com/stupid- ... enix-suns/ If we could get a guy like Marion at the MLE Ainge should pull the trigger, assuming he doesn't have to spend it elsewhere after blowing up the starting 5.

No, Marion is garbage who thinks he's better than he really is because playing with Nash in that uptempo team gave him better stats than he deserved.

That's pretty harsh. Each time I've seen him he looked ok. Sure he doesn't look as good without Steve Nash, but who would.

Someone will give him more than MLE. He's got too much ego to accept the MLE I think.

If he would take it, it's a no-brainer.

Our starting 5 is set; we need to get the best bench player we can, either at the 3 or the 4/5.

3/4 like Marion would work.

He'd be like Posey but 10x better.

We could go small and have the SICKEST small ball lineup ever. Marion is much more legit at PF than anyone else we put there for small ball.

Pierce and Ray could have their minutes conserved. Between spelling Pierce and Ray (while Pierce shifts to 2 or House plays) and small ball, Marion would basically get starter's minutes.

He would be the classic 6th man.

I don't see the problem in being a bench player. I rather be the guy coming in the game with 6 minutes left in the 1st, than being the guy leaving the court 6 minutes into the game. Just look at Lamar Odom...he is much, much, much better than Bynum, yet gets the 6th man role, and comes in every game and plays starter minutes for LA. What did that get him?? A ring..I'm sure Ray would be fine with it...he is far too intelligent to complain about this..
BTW, coming 'off the bench' is so blown out of proportion around the NBA, it's not even funny. I guess players just love watching that ball go up in the air at mid court as close as possible...
but yeah..if Marion wants a ring this is his chance..if he wants money and shots, than stay in Toronto he'll be the man over there...
