I Hope Danny Moves Up to Get this Guy in the Draft

Post#1 » by return2glory » Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:39 pm

Much like several years ago, Danny Ainge moved up into the draft to grab a steal. That was was Rajon Rondo. This year I hope Danny does the same by getting Terrence Williams.

Terrence Williams is my sleeper in this years draft. This is the guy that I hope we get to back up Pierce at the SF postion. IMO, he is better than TA and Walker. I still want to see want Giddens can do at the SG position.

T. Williams is a basketball player, he knows how to play the game. He is an all around player out of Louisville. At 6'6, he can do a lot of things on the floor. He is a great athlete, who can finish with the best of them. He is also a very good defensive player, and a good rebounder, passer, and ball handler. He averaged 12.5 points, 8.6 reounds, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game while leading his team to the Elite 8.

The 8.6 rebounds out of a 6'6 player is very impressive. He is a great rebounder for his size, much like Giddens. But what is more impressive is the 5.0 assists for a SF in college. IMO, Williams has star potential and can he had between picks 15-24. This is the guy I want us to get.

Here is some footage of one of the best kept secrets:

Im right there with you terrence would be great for this team, i actually posted something about this earlier if you want to check it out; if i was danny i would definitely do all i could to try to get t will, and hope that AJ price is there at the 58th pick to fill the backup point need

terrence's two best assets besides his athleticism are his court vision and his defense, plus he has good range on his shot- would be a great pickup for the celtics

No. A rich man's JR Giddens. Both Williams and Giddens are great athlete's. Both are great rebounders for their size. They are also similiar in height and weight. But what seperates this players is that Williams' court vision and passing. Williams has triple double potential and Williams is also a better defender than Giddens.

Ford on ESPN says Danny is high on Tyreke Evans. I don't know why you would give up Ray ALlen to get a guy who shoots .267 on threes.

A couple months ago SI had an article on Terrence Williams. They described him as a point forward in the mold of Scotti Pippen. I got very excited about him at the time. Then I looked at his stats.

I can't remember what I didn't like, probably shooting 43% from field, 58% free throws.

But if we can buy a pick and pick him up for nothing great.

As for the 58th pick, A.J. Price is okay, but I prefer Milenko Tepic, 6' 8" swing man with point guard skills, and improving every year.

Who is talking about getting ride of Ray Allen? Williams would be PP's backup at SF.

More like Gerald Wallace without the injuries

He's going to be a steal in this drat. However, if the Celtics are planning on trading anyone, they might as well go all out and take someone higher in the draft.

I went to U of L so I'm pretty familiar with Terrence Williams. The things that stand out to me the most about him are that he's extremely athletic, a good rebounder, a streaky shooter, and is a very poor decision maker. He's actually a bit like Francisco Garcia, another Louisville product, but with out of this world athleticism. I think if we could get him with, oh say, Giddens or Walker and our second rounder this year he'd be an okay pickup, but he's too erratic and unpredictable to give up anything worthwhile.

With u on Patty....but we dont need another small, quick, non-shooter PG unfortunately.

Whats going on with AJ Ogilvy? He in the draft? He could be a nice surprise for an NBA team soon I reckon.

I've never seen the kid play, but by taking a quick look at his stats the 58% FT might be because he lacks concentration rather then form. He shot 39% from the 3 point line on 4 attempts per game his senior year. His form must be at least decent so he should improve from the free throw line sooner or later.

Like I said, though, I've never actually seen this kid play so who knows.

Terrence Williams will be 22 years old in a couple of weeks. Old for a prospect but relatively young for a senior. In any event, that should still affect how his stats are interpreted. FT% is low, and DXpress' analysis paints him as a poor shooter. But he did knock some treys down against good teams (looking at his game log), and he did play well against good competition it would seem.

From what I read on him, he sounds a lot like Boris Diaw, not as tall & long, but still a real good defender, good rebounder/passer, maybe a better shooter than Diaw was at the same age, which doesn't say much

I will give my support here. I like both Williams and Tyler Smith as potential late 1st round/early 2nd round sleepers. Tyler Smith IMO had also been in this category but decided to return to school.

I'll add - I forgot to take into account that he is coming out of Rick Pitino's program. I could see this as either a positive or a negative. On one hand, Rick Pitino simply does not have a history of producing good, unselfish basketball players - he would seem to tailor players to his system which works in college but not the NBA. On another hand, it is possible that this could have corrupted Terrence Williams to an extent.

I read "Francisco Garcia" as a comparison above, but it would seem to me (looking at stats, profiles, etc) that Terrence Williams has more size/strength/athleticism (and is a worse shooter/scorer than Garcia was).

Sounds like the type of guy Danny would be interested in (athletic freaks on the wing, a la T. Allen, Giddens, and Walker). If he can move up with only using our prospects, sure, but I wouldn't give up a proven player when we already have three guys getting no burn as prospects (Pruitt, Giddens, Walker) and two others getting no burn (Scal, T. Allen).

Yeah im very excited to see how Patty Mills turns out. Just praying the Lakers dont draft him.

Also surely this guy has some flaws? All that has been said are good things.

Damn. Exactly. It seems like the word is getting out on Williams. NBAdratnet had him going 22, I would have taken him in the top 10, but it seems like the Kings may take him at 7. The Warriors are also interested in him.

Warriors would be a perfect fit if what we read about him is true. The namanagement in GS seems to hate players with solid shot selection / bball IQ.
