OT- Big Al for Amare

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:43 pm

Looks like Minnesota might be making smarter moves now that Mchales not in the drivers seat. This deal and the Love for the 2nd pick sounds like strides in the right direction.

Conflicting news......

But the truth is that there have been NO discussions between the teams about this trade. It is a total BS made up rumor with no legs. The Suns are shopping Amare, but more than likely if they don't find a deal that they love they will keep him and deal with the alternatives at a later date. KTAR.com

The Suns have no intention at this time of re-signing him and very well could let Amare play out next season -- a contract year if he opts out as expected -- and either deal him at the trade deadline or after the season in a sign and trade deal. KTAR.com

cfan that is a terrible deal. 1. Al is younger 2. Amare would be a 1 year rental. no way he re signs in Minny 3. Al is already locked in for 4 more years (i think its 4) 4. AL IS BETTER.

This is being discussed in the why mchale left minny thread too, maybe we should combine threads.

I trust Mark Spears a lot more than KTAR. KTAR was the one that came up with the Rondo/Ray for Amare/Barbosa/#14 pick trade. KTAR is wrong about 100% of the time.

We'll see.

I love Big Al, but he's already had so many injuries at a young age. Healthy he's probably better then Amare, but he doesn't stay healthy. The only season he stayed healthy was his contract year.

Amare isnt exactly the picture of health either.

Yep you're right, I was thinking the same thing right after I wrote it. If he ends up losing his sight then I don't think I'd want him on my team.

Something smells fishy in this rumor. Big Al is locked up in MIN for like 5 years or so. Why would MIN trade someone who wants to be there. Let's be clear, AMARE isn't signing a new deal with MIN. I'm thinking some of these names will be involved in some kind of deal, but that is unknown to use at this point.

I really like hearing this if it is true. Obviously a steal for PHX and we have seen what their medical staff can do for players and being a huge Big Al fan still, that is exciting news. And as C's fans we should be happy to hear this so people can put an end to any conspiracies about our KG trade. It was not so McHale can help out the C's, Minnesota's FO is just not intelligent. They are getting ROBBED in this potential deal. I wouldn't even do Al for Amare straight up. And throwing in the 6th pick... TERRIBLE!

Just curious. I know big al has one of the best post games in the NBA...but how well does he run the pick and roll/pop with a PG?

Big Al is really a complete big man offensively, he can run the pick and roll. I think his only problem are his defense and health. He scores well, but doesn't keep his man from scoring. Also he's way to injury-prone. When healthy though he reminds me a lot of Kevin Mchale offensively. He knows how to use his long arms to take high percentage shots.

This deal doesn't really make sense for the T-Wolves. Big Al is one of the best offensive bigs in the league. Maybe Amare is slightly, if at all, better than Al right now, but the contracts don't make sense at all.

Why the hell would they even add a first in the first place?

Our old pal kingly (source is Big Al) said that they are heavily shopping Love instead.

The weirdest part of this silly rumor is that both Big Al and Amare are better fits for the team they are on, amare in the fast pace phoenix offense and big al in the post in Minny's more balanced offense. It's pretty crappy for both sides IMO without the pick, throw the reputed first in and it becomes horrible for Minny and a just sort of lateral for Phoenix. Seems... well.... fictional.

I disagree, I still think it is much better for PHX without the pick included. Al has a better attitude, has always struck me as a better defender (and we haven't had the chance to see him play alongside teammates that also defend), and his stats would be more impressive in PHX's offense.

Also note that - considering the number of possessions Al had heavily defended in the low post last season, his low TO% was very impressive and suggests the solid ball handling ability (better than Amare's) which would be required within PHX's offense.

Then when you consider that Al is cheaper and locked into his contract and a bit younger, IMO Phoenix wins hands down.
