No Accountability

I know we all love rumors, especially when it involves the Celtics, however, it really sucks with all this technology that there is no more accountability. I mean, anyone and everyone can post whatever and it is like its legit. I really think it is a sad time for journalists. I mean, we get to the point where someone from here starts a thread from a "rumor" from a guy who started a thread on Celticsblog saying he had a friend who said.....
There is something seriously wrong with that.

That's true, but we also know thinks much quicker now. So you have to take the good with the bad. I think all this sh*t is fun even the fake sh*t.

Yep...my bad....my mistake.....
Accountability is owning up to ones mistake so don't fret...it's not dead yet.

It's the un-named "source" that bugs me. A rumor seemingly becomes legit because a "source" said something. Reality is it's nobody that matters, because if it was then there would be a quote attributed to a name.
We had a long thread about it this week - a "source" said there was no way the Celtics were trading Rondo. And a lot of posters expressed relief, not knowing if the source was the sister of the girlfriend of the assistant to the chief towel washer of the Celtics or someone that knows his ass from a hole in the ground.

Please don't take it personally, it was just a recent example. I was going for the extreme. I am more irritated that you see things like Vince to Cleveland, Yao to Cleveland, and such from actual reporters, not necessarily posters on a message board.

To be fair canman this has always gone on the ability to verify it is what has changed. For decades SI has thrown crap at the wall but with the two weeks between prints people just took it for what it was worth, same thing with the Sunday columns in the Globe and Vecsey and Sam Smith. There is just so much more information now and the ability to even track it down to its original location on the Net that there is actually more accountability but there is also infinitely larger amount of crap to sift through.

Certainly another way to look at it. Good point.
