Seriously. I watched that same video a few years ago. Only his name was Sergio. And everybody wanted to trade their point guards for the opportunity to get him.
I'm not saying Rubio's not talented. Maybe he'll be a HOFer when all is said and done. All I know is that this video proves absolutely nothing other than he can be a flashy dribbler and passer. Hey -- you need talent to do that. Obviously he has a good handle and court vision. Good for him. He's a cinch to make the next And1 tour.
Here's what you don't see: (a) any turnovers from bonehead no-look over-the-shoulder passes; (b) him playing defense other than poking the ball away (often after bumping the dribbler); or (c) him demonstrating the ability to hit a jump shot. He's got some kind of weird leaning set shot that I suppose looks better than Rondo's ugly shot but looks don't mean squat.
We've got an All-Star-caliber PG. Who's young and will get better. 25-30 NBA teams would be dying to have a guy like Rajon running the point for them.
Plus, the question of superior upside is WORTHLESS for us right now. #18 is right there for the taking. You want some Spanish-speaking 18-year old kid trying to lead KG, Paul and Ray in the Eastern Conference Finals? I'll stick with Rondo (you know -- the guy who has a ring and led our team past Chicago this season), thank you.
